I saw the other day that Red XIII isn't even a permanent playable party member, and the entire plot was changed to boot? Nah I'm good. RE3R has more value to me.

Red's a guest in the Shinra building and does some stuff, like running on walls and flipping levers. I think the same dude who voices him voices Garrus in ME games (and if it's not him, it sounds a helluva lot like him). He gets about 30% of the memorable lines in the entire game, too, which, given how late he's thrown into the ring, is rather odd.

As for the entire plot being changed, they seem to be keeping the same rhythms and general order to Midgar's stuff. The proceedings are just padded out the wazoo and the plot's formula is tampered with, thanks to Nomura's lunacy.

After seeing the quality of writing in FF7R, I'm convinced they'll do a whistle stop of many lame tropes. The time ghosts, the needless padding and brainless sidequests, the squandered potential to add interesting new things (no visiting new Midgar sectors?), the piss-poor dialogue, the weak exploration and puzzle-solving, etc. Some of the VA stuff and music is fine, but the more I think about it, it just feels like mediocrity in a sweet shell of nostalgia.

To be honest, finding a way to revive Aeris or save Avalanche members from dying wouldn't be that dumb a change. Too bad it's wrapped up in all this destiny/time travel/dimension hopping garbage, so there's less hope they'll do important changes competently. I guess there's still time to turn this thing around...though it'll be hard with some of the plot devices they've introduced.

There's actually an easter egg in the old Freddy Pharkas game involving the annoying owl. You can see it perched on an old covered bridge, and Freddy mocks him for being useless. Later, when you return to the desert area, you can see vultures picking at the owl's remains, causing Freddy to quip, "he'll never delay another scene change". I could probably find the easter egg on Youtube if anyone's interested.

If I can't pick Tactics, I'd probably say 7, maybe 6. FF7's soundtrack is probably the only aspect of it I'd put on a pedestal.

I think everything outside base ffvii ruins the director's original vision.

The absolute funniest part of FF7R for me was the brief Cait Sith cameo when the plate falls and how it falls to the ground and does the "pound the ground out of frustration" trope. Hopefully Reeve not being total trash in this game will make the character at least 1% less unlikable.
