Trump is up to 44 cents on PredictIt. I think Kamala Harris is an awful choice for the VP. Biden is basically doubling down on neoliberalism. He probably won't be able to name a single thing he regrets about the Obama/Biden administration when he gets asked that at the debate.

I am personally not seeing a real downturn in the economy anything like this monstrous -33% number. The thing is, that GDP number is based on spending. Spending is down, but savings are up. Spending will come back in force in the future because people are going to find themselves with a lot of extra savings to spend this Christmas or next year.

I am going to start buying shares in companies that make luxury products in anticipation of the shopping that's going to happen when people realize they have an extra 10k sitting around from all the spending they didn't do this year.

And long term, betting on the money printer is definitely a better idea than betting against it. Even if you FOMO'd into the very top of the tech bubble in 2000 by buying a Nasdaq ETF, after 20 years you'd......have twice as much money as you would by investing in the USD. And that's without reinvesting dividends.

There are two more hours, but for now looks like the US stock market doesn't give a shit about the GDP and the bloodbath that happened in Europe

The GDP numbers were a little better than was expected yesterday, why would the market drop a lot today? I mean, the Dow is down 260 points.....it's not like it surged up.

As far as betting on money printer goes brrr goes, the truth is, holding US dollars is a bet against it. You have to bet for or against it no matter what you do.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised when I woke up this morning and saw CAR down 8%, after it was up over 10% yesterday morning and slightly in the red. So that was close to a 20% swing from top to bottom in 24 hours. Thought about it and decided to buy more shares, and an hour later it's only at -3% for the day, so there's a quick nice gain for the newly bought shares.

While none of the days have been particularly awful, this is looking like it could be the 5th red day in a row for me which doesn't feel good. But regarding casinos: even before coronavirus, this was an industry with little to no growth. The all-time best 2 years for Nevada gambling revenue were......2007 and 2006. After 12 years, the industry still had not recovered to the 2007 peak. In Macau it peaked in 2013 and had not recovered to there by 2019.

I'm looking at ways to bet against ERI/CZR. It's hard to imagine this newly merged company not going bankrupt. A small casino operator takes on mountains of debt to buy a much bigger casino operator with even bigger mountains of debt on its books. This happens during the middle of a pandemic but includes some cash payouts that were negotiated last year when CZR was a more valuable business. Now we find that despite reopening, there is almost no demand in Vegas. People focus on gambling of course but the convention and club businesses are probably faring even worse.

And, even worse, they no longer own many of the properties - those were spun off into VICI Properties during CZR's last bankruptcy. So now ERI/CZR is paying rent to VICI Properties so they can operate Caesars Palace, for instance. Mountains of debt, not much in assets, very little revenue coming in as long as coronavirus is here. Even when it's over, I think a lot of the business might not return - people have figured out ways to do business remotely without conventions and conferences, and people can gamble on stocks/options or sports online.

I don't want to short the stock as that has a finite gain and an infinite potential loss, but the option premiums for puts look pretty expensive. Guess I'm not the only one who feels this way about this company. Maybe I'll buy long term ITM puts to try to replicate shorting the stock without the unlimited risk.

Biden is the perfect COVID climate candidate as long as he sits back the next two months. Bernie would have been a great one too due to how on-brand his message is for the times, but he would be taking Trump to task basically every day, and it would make conservatives want to 'fight back'. Biden sitting back allows conservatives to be forced to observe Trump self-destructive entirely on his own. Essentially, Biden Wins By Doing Absolutely Nothing.

That was exactly Hillary's strategy.

Plenty of people lost money due to panic selling because of that tweet. This is not funny. You just don't do something like that.
And no, I did not hold Tesla stocks at that time. And it still annoyed the hell out of me and I am not forgiving him.

Sadly, I should have realized it wasn't a manipulation to kill the stock, but rather a manipulation to make people buy it cheaper before a massive surge

Honestly.....people who are inclined to panic sell stocks are probably going to lose money no matter what. If you find that you cannot resist the urge to panic sell or the urge to buy just because it's in the middle of a moonshot up you're probably going to lose money. Best thing if your decisionmaking is governed by fear and greed is to let someone else manage your money.

If anyone is confused, the ticker symbol ERI is now CZR. If you owned a share of ERI, you now have a share of CZR. If you had a pre-merger share of CZR, you should now have some amount of cash and a fractional share of the new CZR (which is the old ERI). It's weird they kept the CZR symbol even though ERI is the surviving company, but I think it's because CZR is a bigger and more well known company.

There are gambling sites for this, right? I'd seriously consider a 3-way parlay of Biden/Dem House/Dem Senate if the GOP strings along unemployment benefits and allows millions of middle class suburban voters to actually suffer financially.

So you won't be able to get a parlay like this to work in a prediction market (or regular financial market) anything like they do in sports. That's because those things are not independent events. They are highly correlated, and the market knows it. My guess is the 3-way parlay, if it's offered, will pay barely better than Dem Senate alone.

Edit: I misread it. It wasn't 1:1000 odds, I think they meant bet $1000 to win $100. In that case, it's not a bad bet at all.

I'm looking at PredictIt now, and they have Hillary at 5% to win the nomination and Biden at 93%. Best offer for betting against Hillary is 96 cents. So yeah, if you are feeling confident, you can put up $96 to win $4. Or put up $93 to win $7 with Biden.

I think a big part of those odds involve the chance of Biden dying or having serious health problems. He's gonna be the oldest nominee ever and there's a pandemic going around so I wouldn't say the odds are unreasonable. Don't see much of an advantage in playing those odds myself.

Arent there transaction costs that would make you lose money regardless of the outcome given the extremely low payout?

I don't think so. Unless you mean that the 1:1000 payout is worse than putting the money in a high yield savings account. But hey, given that we're only a little over 3 months away, it's not much worse, and if you put it in a savings account the bank could go under. And the FDIC. Is that less likely, or is Hillary being the nominee less likely? That's for you to decide.

This unemployment boost shit has me in all kinds of feels right now.

I am still working and possibly can be until September 3rd. Been applying places. My girl just got a job at Walmart as a personal shopper (I got her looking for the international aisle to practice lmfao). And, still I am refreshing 10 times a day seeing what is going on with it. I can only imagine people who aren't working right now and aren't gonna get max unemployment and stuff.

Republicans are really pissing me off. How hard would it have been to tell states to update their computers months ago because in August they were gonna have to be able to run a system to determine boosts to 100% of wages. Or to just figure out what the fuck you were gonna do so people could prepare.

Well you know why they are doing it this way - why they always do it this way - it's to get maximum leverage by putting the Democrats up against a deadline. Then they hand them a bill on the last day and say either you pass our bill or we go over the cliff. And because the Democrats are spineless wimps, they'll agree to the bill, just like they always do.
