She's technically not a villain. She was originally on Batman's personal team of heroes called The Outsiders in the 80's. I think she was also in the 1980's Suicide Squad comics for a bit. But for the movie, they made her an independent agent that the main guy knows (Rick Flag).

But the long and short of it is that Suicide Squad is just a s***show and not really worth analyzing beyond it being s***. Just like BvS.

Not really. The internet decided it hated RotJ like ten years ago at this point.
Criticizing RotJ harshly doesn't mean you hate it. It's clear as day that it's a step below the first 2 movies. It's still solid overall and ahead of the rest of the saga. The Disney movies are too uneven and they rehash too much to place ahead any of the OT.

The PT is not in the OT's class no matter how much people like memes.

No problem. Yeah in general the Bruce Timm cartoons are a good entry point. I think a lot of older people here started on the 90's Batman along with those Burton and Schumacher movies. The younger people liked Justice League Unlimited but I was past cartoons at that point.

@Ruvan22 I'm not a big expert, but I've read the 75th Anniversary hardcover. The 40's stuff is just more kid-friendly and it fits that era and the audience they were going for (mostly kids). It had a distinct kiddy art style that fit the material and the stories. The 2010's version is more modern and dark and contemporary. The art is more realistic (Gary Frank is an awesome artist). Similar to how Man of Steel was a modern update of Superman. In the comics, I think the books Birthright and Superman Earth One influenced the MoS tone. It's typical of the dark tone in comics that started somewhere in the late 80's.

If you want to look visually, just Google "CC Beck Captain Marvel" and "Gary Frank Shazam" to see what the stuff looks like in comparison.

I still think Superman 1 and 2 are great but I would agree that Shazam smokes any Superman movie for the last nearly 40 years.

Yeah a couple of the DC characters are inherently more hard (compared to Marvel) to do justice on film. Shazam is an old concept but the movie used the modern interpretation from the 2010s by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank. If they went full 1940's, it would have been wack.

Funny thing, Captain Marvel aka Shazam was a bigger comic book property in the 1940's at his peak than Superman was. Then when Fawcett Comics got sued and taken to court, he got put on the shelf. The writer who did a lot of that early Captain Marvel work then went on to do Superman at DC and applied a lot of those same concepts to him. The superpets, other people with similar powers, etc.

Putting the franchise on Batman's shoulders isn't a bad idea. Making him a 20 year veteran crime fighter played by a 40+ yr old divisive actor was a dumb move to make.

And then there's poor handsome Henry Cavill who spent 3 movies posing for the camera and flashing almost no charm of his own. I keep hearing he's a charming guy and these movies have pretty much wasted him.

I love DC Comics slightly more than Marvel, but the studio (WB) needs to up their game. They're on a bit of a role since Wonder Woman. Not everything is a money success, but they aren't trash either (BoP was fine, Shazam was awesome). Joker was big too even if it isn't part of a movie-verse. Aquaman made over 1 billion even if it wasn't THAT good.

The Snyder stuff should be burned and buried. Suicide Squad too.

The mullet is probably in a narrow span of time towards the end of the decade. It's not like the whole 80's was a neon era with frizzy chick hair and dude mullets. It usually takes a couple years for the trends to set in. I think what most people think of when they hear 80's probably started in ~1984. My mom had 70's hair in her early 80's high school photos, lmao.
