Yeah from early on there have been reports from advisors that things have to be condensed to bullet points to hold his attention. It's fucking bizarre that the "leader of the free world" has to have IMPORTANT INFORMATION spoon fed to him like some kind of grade school kid who struggles with long paragraphs and chapter books.

The President of the United States only has a finite number of hours in each day and I have to imagine there are much better and more time efficient ways to receive information.

But his advisors handing him a sheet of facts wont have the same feeling of fellatio he gets when he watches Fox News so I can see where that might not appeal to him.

What social program is ending gangs, drug wars, etc?

Gangs? Programs to help eliminate poverty and to reduce the number of Americans who feel like they don't have any choice but to live that kind of life.

Drug wars is a more nuanced topic. But a solution would involve some level of decriminalization and reform of our criminal justice system. Get the non violent drug offenders back into society and in programs where they can become contributing members rather than a source of increased taxes to stay locked up.

In Breaking Bad, methylamine is used by Walter White and Jesse Pinkman as they use reductive amination of phenylacetone (P2P) to yield methamphetamine - a process they devised to circumvent the need to buy pseudoephedrine. This P2P and methylamine-based cook produces what became infamously known as "Blue Sky" in the American southwest.

So it was apparently a side effect of using the liquid that they stole from that one place when they used the explosive on the door combined with the purity of his perfect execution of chemistry.

So when he was doing the pseudoephedrine cooks he got it ridiculously pure, but not blue, but then they couldn't get a supply of enough of the cold medicine or w/e so they switched to the other method which only yielded blue in the ridiculous purity that only Walt could pull off. Because science?

I'm sure there is no basis for this in actual science, but that's the answer the show offers us for their version of science.

Yeah finally got the video to play. If they were trying to leave then I don't understand why either of them would have been walking to get behind their car.

But then pulling a gun is an absurd overreaction. That's completely skipping the steps of honking your horn out rolling down your window and telling her to move so you can leave.

It seems like the women recording were making a mountain out of a molehill to begin with, but then the woman in the car makes a planetoid out of the mountain.

But yes absolutely prosecute for the pulling of the gun and aiming it at people in that situation, and if you can prove intent to hit with car then that too. But from what I saw I don't know that you could prove they were trying to hit anyone with their car and were just trying to leave.

The bathroom thing is overblown in my opinion because it seems obvious they just weren't thinking about it. Like he didn't intentionally take a camera into the bathroom to be edgy, his cameraman was just stupid and followed him in. I guess you could be mad at him for being stupid or not hiring a good enough cameraman but to put it on the same level as "cheated on his wife" just seems like you're trying to find reasons to dislike him.

There are already plenty of reasons to dislike him, you don't need to pretend like you're mad about him accidentally filming in a bathroom to make more!

I can agree with this.

It's a reason for twitch to be upset with him because it exposes them to liability, and that is a reason for them to discipline him for making that mistake. But I don't see why your average viewer should be up in arms about it unless there was an intent violate privacy that resulted in the bathroom filming.

Okay, so I posted that and then died IMMEDIATELY.

I ran into another druid.

His hero power was "your choose one spells do both choices"
His other ability was "your spells cost health instead of mana".

So on turn 1 he plays The Forest's Aid to summon five 2/2s.
And then he plays Dark Whispers to turn one of those into a 7/7
And then he plays two wisps
And then he plays evolving Spores and adapts +3 attack onto his full board.

5/2 5/2 5/2 10/7 5/2 4/1 4/1

It cost him 18 health, but then he had lethal on board at the start of turn 2.
And he used savage roar.

LIke holy hell.

Edit: and now i'm playing this deck and DRAWING NOTHING BUT MINIONS. I feel like I got particularly screwed now and I was really happy with my starting deck.

Druid
All minions have rush
lots of poisonous minions or summon minion spell effects.

Been a fan, but I know I'll get wrecked if I run into a burn deck without enough answers. Also I wish there was somewhere where I could see how many other players are currently still on my deck. I feel like this one is fairly difficult to play so I wouldn't be surprised if most people lose their first game with it and I don't end up with many converts.

Suppression does not require malice.
Suppression does not require racism.
Suppression does not require INTENT to suppress voter turnout.

Yes, malicious, racist voter suppression has occurred in other instances, and that might not be what this is. But this is still an example of votes being suppressed by changes that made it more burdensome for a number of people who WANTED to cast their votes.

And we're acknowledging that GOOD changes were made to the voting in Kentucky as well. It's possible to make more than one change and for some of the changes to be good and for other changes to be bad.

The point of "it's still suppression because old people might choose to not vote" is pretty rich, imo, considering it's just as illogical when you flip it around and say "it was previously suppressing young people who chose not to vote" when they had to go in person but did vote now that they could do it by mail?

Hot take: It's voter suppression both ways.

Not having adequate options to mail in returns is suppression.

Not having adequate polling locations (which could realistically result in oppressively long lines) is suppression.

I can be suppression either way and it seems like a pretty logical opinion to hold.

Even if you have gone out of your way to give everyone the opportunity to vote by mail, you can guarantee that a not-insignificant portion of people have decided not to avail themselves of those options. And those people are going to need places to vote.

Unless 90% of in-person voters switched to mail voting you are going to see difficulties at the remaining polls. And even IF they reduced locations by 90% because they know for a fact that 90% of potential in-person voters have already cast a ballot you would still have to very carefully decide which locations need to remain open to keep turnout the same.

I find it unlikely that in person turnout will be down 90%
I find it unlikely that even if it were they will have done a good job of determine which sites to remain open
I find it disingenuous to say "This OTHER method of voting is easier than ever" as an excuse for making the most common method 90% more scarce.

That's like a store that wont accept cash because it's "easier than ever" to pay for things electronically. Even if that's true it's going to cause problems and is empirically inferior to a system that allows for both.

So what i've been able to gather is that the guy is a psychiatrist who has a blog and he has received death threats over the years because...reasons?

I'm not sure I follow that part, but his logic is that now that his last name will be "out there" his life will be at risk.

Here is a page about him and some of his views:
https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Scott_Alexander

.

Personally I'm not sure where I stand. If it's truly a matter of his personal safety then maybe dont out him? But he's already public with his First and Middle name and the fact that he is a psychiatrist on the west coast so is he really that hard to track down for someone sufficiently motivated?

Or is it just an issue where he doesn't want to publicly stand by the things he's said online?

I think if he's received credible death threats then there is a case to keep his last name a secret. But again, a sufficiently motivated person should not have much difficulty with the information that's already available.

that sounds complicated, youre probably trying to trick me. I have this simple graph that shows crime going down as police budgets are going up and my common sense tells me that if police stop crime then less police means more crime and I dont like that.

Yes there are a certain amount of people who will oppose any effort to reduce funding to the police.

But there are also a lot of people who can agree that a funding reduction might be correct but who do NOT want to abolish the police altogether.

And by leading "defund the police" you are putting a sour taste in the mouth of people who will initially think it means abolishment and not simply "give less money to". A more ideal situation would be a phrase that gets this across so you don't have to quickly explain what it really means to the majority of people who take it to mean abolishment.

they can still do that with reduce funding for the police (which has way too many syllables for a good slogan). Theyd still just say look at these socialists who love crime so much they want to take money from the police who keep you safe and use it to pay for abortions for illegal immigrants

this feels to me like a similar case as to when people had concerns that if Bernie was the candidate conservatives would attack him as a communist. Theyre going to do it no matter who the candidate is and they were going to attack an anti police slogan no matter how tame. We may as well just go for the thing we actually want.

And then you show them a graph of the city budget and explain that crime can be reduced with other programs and we wont need to pay ALL The money to cops to kill people after the crimes are committed and sometimes when crimes aren't even committed.

Just in their opinion it should be reduced to 0 instead of (insert more realistic amount)

But they damage the optics with a slogan that can easily be lambasted by conservatives.

I've been calling casinos out for years for supporting a crap game and now nearly everyone agrees with me about it. Seriously though even if you assume that was being delivered as a joke, what is the point of the joke? That positive results make him look bad so ha ha it would be great if we stopped looking for them?

A more aware president might say something about how we're doing so much better at testing that it's starting to make him look bad. But when you consider how slow the original response to the virus was and his role in that slowness you would think he might realize that he isn't really in a position to make that joke.

I live at the edge of the city of Clovis and the city of Fresno, and the two cities handled the pandemic entirely differently. There was a long stretch of time where clovis had already rescinded it's stay at home order and changed it's mask requirement into a mask suggestion and so you could walk unchecked into a Target or Wal-Mart on the clovis side, and on the fresno side they were limiting the number of occupants and requiring full mask participation. And sure, they companies could have enforced stricter requirements on a company-wide level, but they didn't and I think that's the same for most companies. I imagine amc will conform to the state and local statutes whatever they happen to be, but they will not enforce their own company rules on top of whatever the locals ones are.
