There is something amusing about seeing an entitled woman go into shock after getting smacked. Like, you can tell they're under some delusion that everyone else just has to take their bullshit.

A lot of women don't realize that they're a relatively protected class, because they've never been hit when acting like fools, so when someone doesn't follow that rule, they just break down. I saw a video the other day of some bitchy white woman nagging some black dudes on the sidewalk and when they were turning away from her, she tried to push her way back into the situation. One of the guys just shoved her back a bit and she just lost it. Full on tears.

And a large part of that is generational inability. Their parents never learned to swim, so they're a lot less likely to be taught how. And as he mentioned, a big part of that is because there was a time when they weren't allowed in public pools.

These aren't rates of conviction. A clearance is just someone being arrested, charged, and sent to court.

Although shame definitely plays a large part in under reporting, it's fucking embarrassing that only 34.5% of reported cases even end up in court

Fair enough. I didn't read all of the text, I mostly just looked at the chart.

I think rape has a relatively unique difficulty where, aside from violent rape or maybe rape via drugs, the evidence for rape is often indistinguishable from consensual sex.

Do you think the fact that rapes only have a 34.5% clearance rate might have something to do with it being under reported in the first place?

Not when it has a higher clearance than robbery, but many more cases of robbery are reported, per 1,000.

I suspect rape going under reported has less to do with the rates of conviction than it does with the sense of shame victims often feel, compared to being robbery or assaulted.

Or we should focus more funds on programs that actually target the root cause of those crimes (usually mental health and poverty)

Why can't you just discuss this honestly without hyperbole?

I gave the post the response it deserves. Police can't respond to crimes they aren't aware of and arrests and convictions are dependent on qualified evidence.

So, out of a 1000 rapes, only 230 are reported. Shitting on the cops for not responding to the 770 they aren't informed about is a dishonest tactic right from the start. After that, you also have to prove that a crime happened, the accused is the one who committed the crime, etc. Hell, several of the statistics there have less to do with the police than the prosecutors and courts.

Out of every 1,000 rapes:

230 are reported to the police.
46 reports lead to an arrest.
9 cases are referred to a prosecutor.
5 cases result in a felony conviction.
4.6 rapists are incarcerated.

Out of every 1,000 robberies:

619 are reported.
167 reports lead to an arrest.
37 cases get referred to a prosecutor.
22 cases lead to a felony conviction.
20 robbers are incarcerated.

Out of every 1,000 assault and battery crimes:

627 are reported.
255 reports lead to an arrest.
105 cases get referred to a prosecutor.
41 cases lead to a felony conviction.
33 criminals are incarcerated.

Doin a real great job stopping all that crime.

Oh hey I wonder what % of police homicides go unpunished. Anyone know the number for that?

You're right. They should do away with due process and just immediately convict everyone that is reported. Hell, they should arrest and convict more proactively, even before a crime is reported.

Even if Floyd had a criminal history, kneeling on his neck until he died is not an acceptable thing for the police to have done.

I won't say I was offended, I just don't think I've ever much seen the humor in forcibly assaulting someone in a sexual manner -- even if it's Porky Pig and Daisy Duck. (Sorry, George Carlin. RIP)
