Spawn might have been worth something 15 years ago based on design, but his EDGE won't get him very far nowadays. And the last time he was relevant to Gfaqs was probably when he was a guest in Soul Calibur 2. There is a new Spawn movie in the works though which might bring him back.

I think the Arbiter can just barely get to Mid Fodder. Master Chief absorbs most of the Halo anti-votes and Arbiter seems to be well-liked among the fanbase - I assume there are still Halo fans on the site since Reach made GOTD.

Mid Fodder for Shellder. It isn't a particularly popular gen 1 Pokemon, but it is vaguely cute and has a short anime scene where a Shellder sticks its tongue out. IIrc that was a meme for 15 seconds at one point.

Agree with Low Fodder for Gamma. His story in Adventure was memorable but he got replaced with Omega in later games. Plus the prevailing opinion of Adventure nowadays is not particularly positive. Even Adventure 2 is primarily liked for the memes more than anything.

Agree with Mid Fodder for Shao Kahn and Low Fodder for Roger Rabbit. Judge Doom might legitimately be better-remembered than Roger himself even though he's supposed to be the star.

I will say Mid Fodder for Sagat. Anything involving Dan is bound to be laughably weak, I wouldn't really blame Sagat for the failure of the Dan/Sagat rivalry. Sagat is remembered more for his rivalry with Ryu and TIGER spam than anything else.

Agree with Low Midcarder for Venusaur and Low Fodder for Scott Pilgrim.

I'll say Mid Fodder for Tear. She's the only character from TotA who might be able to get somewhere based on her design, and has TJF to boot. I think this puts her above someone like Jade who is well-liked, but has no chance of getting votes from anyone who isn't a fan of TotA. Tear is generally well-liked too, and TotA should still be a popular game on the site.

I will say Mid Fodder but it is very close for me. Sonya is one of the original MK kombatants and is pretty hot in most of her appearances, and Sonya Blade is a memorable name compared to something like Kitana. However her potential match pic is iffy. Both MKX and MK11 went with a very no-nonsense military design for Sonya, without a hint of inappropriate skin or TJF. So if they use one of those pics she might suffer for it.

Agree with Low Midcarder for Charmander. I think it is the weakest of the 3 original starters (you might have Brock to thank for that). Also Charizard is the undisputed king of its evo line, pushing its pre-evolutions to the side.

Agree with Low Fodder for Ares. I believe he only appeared in the first GoW game, back in 2005.

I will go Low Fodder for Vile and Raziel and Mid Fodder for WarGreymon.

I don't think Vile is really that popular, though he will come close to mid due to his recognizable design and strength of his game. Raziel is from a long-dead franchise and won't be stronger than Kain.

WarGreymon is a recognizable "badass" Digimon from the early games and anime series. And I think there is still a fanbase for Digimon present on the site (that Digimon Sleuth game did well in polling a few years back).

Agree with High Fodder for Mudkip. That's about where the starter poll placed him. The meme doesn't mean much anymore but it was so pervasive that everyone will likely remember it.

Agree with Low Fodder for Marvin and Spike.

I will say Mid Fodder for Etna. She has a decisive lack of TJF, but she is a fan favorite in the Disgaea series rivaling Laharl himself. She's been present in every Disgaea game as either a supporting or optional character, and is in all the crossover and Prinny spinoff games. Her design definitely stands out too. Finally there is an alternate route in the first Disgaea game that makes her the main protagonist instead of Laharl, which I think could be big.

Agree with axem's rankings. Trevor can get high fodder based off of the Belmont name and the CV anime. Gen 3 is probably the latest one where being a box legendary will mean something. Most people will know Kyogre and it is a popular Pokemon in its own right, but I would stop short of calling it a fan favorite.

E. Honda does stand out due to how few sumo wrestlers there are in games and his ridiculous Hundred Hand Slap move. But he is pretty low on the totem pole of the original world warriors and isn't a particular favorite among the SF fanbase.

agree with axem's rankings. Zapdos could be fodder line but I think it'd have to win over some Moltres or Articuno die-hards for that to happen. And Balrog is just not well-liked as a character, even among the SF fanbase. Though he is notable for being a hilariously obvious Mike Tyson ripoff.

Mileena is a lot more memorable and has better TJF than Kitana. However not everyone is into the whole teeth and implied cannibalism thing she brings to the table. She was very popular in Mortal Kombat 9 and X for her sex appeal and story roles, but most of Gfaqs hasn't played those games.

Agree with Low Fodder for Cole and Demi-Fiend. Infamous is no longer remembered on the site and Nocturne is extremely niche (unfortunately "Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series" doesn't help).

Ifrit is a cool summon, though he looked oddly green in FFVI and VII. His design stabilized in VIII and stayed consistent in most main games. I'll give him Mid Fodder, assuming that his appearance from FFX is used for the match pic (that should be his best-known appearance).

Jaws - Low Fodder. Jaws is an iconic movie but it's from the 70s, and most of the Jaws sequels and games were notably terrible. I listed the NES game for Jaws' game appearance, but he might be better known for being the garbage Universal Studios game.

No one likes Princess Elise and no one ever WILL like Princess Elise unless you're into human x Sonic . I don't think she'll even get troll votes. LAW Fodder

Dan is obvious Low Fodder. He just barely got into CB9 where he was soundly defeated by Fei Fong Wong.

This being RPGfaqs, Tellah's relatability as a character along with You Spoony Bard! should be enough to get him Mid Fodder.

Jack Skellington is also Mid Fodder. He is one of the more memorable allies in the KH series, and The Nightmare Before Christmas has a fandom that significantly overlaps with the kids that played Kingdom Hearts in the early 00s. Plus the movie pops up as a holiday classic from time to time.

I don't think Maleficent will be super strong, but I think she will make Mid Fodder. I mean she can turn into a dragon and dragons are cool! And if anything, the solo movies have kept her relevant while KH III significantly diminished her role in the series. iirc she had a major role in just about every Kingdom Hearts game before that.

Agree with LAW Fodder for Stanley. He would probably be the weakest Nintendo character to ever appear in a contest (if he somehow made one).

For Balthier I am willing to give High Fodder. Zodiac Age had a good reception and I think he was close to high fodder in his 2013 match. Luigi is a very strong opponent and probably would've done better in that contest if he didn't run into smash SSF in round 2. Plus both FFXII and Beyond Good & Evil are strongly associated with the PS2, so I think Balthier lost a decent number of votes to Jade in his match.

This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.
