But then when you think that you're spending items and weapons just to get items and weapons the gameplay structure becomes kinda skeletal. I really went in more with the mindset of enjoying the locales and just opening every chest for the sake of it, but they have a lot of ways to improve on giving you more things to want. --- |

I think the end for him was fine, but the story pointed at so many different directions he could go but it felt to me like the series just couldn't take him in those directions because it didn't know how or it didn't care to do anything with him but beat him up? He never develops any real agency as a character iirc --- |

It's not the only rule, I would count Metroid because navigating in that game is basically constant platforming. But it does play more like an assistant genre to the adventure aspect. --- |

My favorite is Makoto's Persona being represented by invisible Wario on his motorcycle. How they try to represent different characters with the spirit battles is pretty fun.
