This is why I've disregarded virtually all the other candidates. If you look at their analysis of what admissions would look like with "preferences removed", but keeping affirmative action, black students in every category would see admissions rates twice that of white students.

How many black students are applying in the first place? I haven't been in college since 2013, but I went to a high ranked school and I was one of the 2 black guys in my major, if you combine 2 class years. The school was still dominated by white folks in undergrad, and grad school was even more dominated by Indians and Asians.

Mind you, this is an engineering school, you HAVE to do some discrimination if you want a balanced gender ratio at the very least. And this is important for a good school atmosphere. At one engineering school a friend of mine went to, it's was something like 8:2 in favor of boys. The women there, regardless of their looks, were treated like queens and acted so due to the sheer amount of attention they got. Do you really want to spend your 4 years in that kind of world?

I implore you to research on the benefits of blockchain tech. One of the big breakthroughs of that field is smart contracts, where you can program a contract that will automate and execute based on an event that happens. If X, then Y. There are so many jobs that are based around verifying if "X" happened, if a payment went through (i.e. financial departments in every company or government office), if a vote was genuine for an election. Then on the flipside, there's a lot of work put into making sure Y happens or looking for partners who will do as they say. Back during Irma and Maria, there were a number of insurance companies that weaseled their way out of paying for the damages for the homes that were signed under them.

Smart contracts will automate ALL of this, completely stripping any human entity other than who is getting paid and from who. There literally won't be enough jobs available when the Fourth Industrial Revolution arrives in full force. Yang knows this and has acknowledged this revolution.

Focus your time and energy into finding something you'd enjoy and can spend your hours on. Since I've graduated from college, I've jumped so many fields looking for a job I wanted to do. That ranged from Bioinformatics (quit the first day and consequently left the US for the lack of money), radio broadcasting, to chip manufacturing, to cooking, and then to cube farm. And inbetween I constantly tried out new projects like computer graphics (the technical side, not the fun side unfortunately), to machine learning, and now crypto! I plan on looking into learning the language Solidity since smart contracts are the future and will automate so many jobs in the near future and there will be a need for blockchain engineers.

The point is, you gotta keep trying new things and keep pushing yourself forward to find something suitable that you'd be willing burn all your time on. I have Chainlink since I'm smitten with the idea of the reinvention of a contract and the creation of a trustless environment where I wouldn't get screwed over as a cook by a lazy manager who couldn't be bothered to read over the timesheets to give me my fair pay. You need to find yours.

While I agree that working to befriend somebody who espouses hateful views is an awesome thing (Daryl Davis is a saint!), I think you are missing what most people in this thread are referencing by "vacuum". It's not that a person sits in an isolation box all their life and are suddenly a Nazi (maybe a few do), as much as they isolate from most mainstream activities and then (or at the same time) starts to seek out other isolated individuals. This often leads to a "Oh I kind of vaguely thought about Jews control XYZ, I didn't know others thought the same thing!" moment and they seek out more of the similar thinking crowd to reaffirm the thoughts they've been ruminating on.

That's my concern, I want to know what they are seeing that makes them think such a way. There has to be some external force that reinforces their beliefs. If you want to convince someone otherwise you have to refute their points. In the history of mankind, no one has ever been convinced by the argument of "Shut the **** up". If anything, it'll come back to haunt you guys next year for the 2020 election. Just like it happened in 2016. Shaming and silencing didn't work back then, why would it work now?

Also note that we're super close to a global recession given how Euro banks are now charging a negative interest rate for folks holding their money in their care. And the Fourth Industrial Revolution is gonna be cranking in full gear. With the nation still as divided as ever without the spotlight focusing on the major threats, 2020 is gonna be a doozy. I will agree that people are influenced by tribalism but no I still disagree that these opinions can form in a vacuum. It has to come from somewhere. The $3K a day option is a terrible idea. The purchasing power of $3000 in 2019 is worth less than the purchasing power of $3000 in 2009, which is worth less than the purchasing power of $3000 in 1999. Inflation is going to devalue your wealth. So take the lump sum one time and learn to invest and maintain your wealth. And with the Fourth Industrial Revolution coming, every nation is researching Distributed Ledger tech (blockchain and the like) to back a new stablecoin that would be the new world reserve currency. If one rises and is hopefully not Facebook's libra coin, the US dollar could very well collapse in value.

Abortion is such a touchy subject. If the kid is born, you're doing not only an injustice to the kid but also the community he lives in if you're (assuming you're the father) not there to help raise him and there's no father figure in his life. A mother can't be a replacement for a father. On the flipside, a woman having a kid she doesn't want or can't have can be detrimental to her physical health at worst or create an unwanted kid in an unloved home, more problems for the community.

It's a complex subject that has no easy answers. But this "My body, my rights" line being paraded does no favors.

Absolutely. One of the biggest inventions of the coming 4th Industrial Revolution is the reinvention of the contract, i.e. the Smart contract. This already exists thanks to the Ethereum Blockchain, but the problem is that smart contracts reside only within the blockchain but still needs data from the real world. Data sent to the blockchain needs to be secure and reliable. If there's a possibility of it being tampered or corrupted in any way, then you completely obliterate the point of using blockchain tech. Enter, oracles, these solve the problem of sending reliable data to the blockchain. Chainlink is the current leader as it runs a decentralized oracle network for blockchains, essentially acting as the blockchain's HTTPS variant.

Now back to Smart contracts. When they come out in full force, they'll completely change the way you do business as it creates a "trustless environment". Currently we can make promises that we know we can weasel our way out of. In a trustless environment, that's not possible. Say you are running a record deal for some band and you tell them they will get X percentage for every sale they make or for how long their singles remain in the top 10 of the billboards. With smart contracts, you can set up the revenue streams to send money to their account according to those specifications, using API data of their sales, or API data of the billboard rankings. All automated with no extra 3rd parties. In our current system, they have to trust you.

This trustless environment, coupled with smart contracts that WILL act unconditionally based on events, "If X, then Y", is going to revolutionize this world and will destroy so many jobs. The rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer.

This just seems like a big assumption. Is "oops, we forgot to put black people in the computer" really that big of a problem?

I can assure you this is no assumption. Study Machine Learning yourself and you'll see how insanely well developed and these tools are, freely available to boot, and how you can train your own datasets. It's not "oops we forgot to put black people in the computer", it's "alright, we just compiled a million+ images and spent the last couple months finally getting this thing to bloody work to recognize our faces. Oh, what's that? We should do black folks too? We'll get around to them... later"

^I've heard this before but why doesn't AI recognize darker people? People say "we need to fix this" but no one seems to say what the actual problem is. Is this something to do with the actual input of the developers or is it just a visual thing the machines have a problem with?

Not enough data. That's solely it. The developers have to collect images to create the dataset to be used to train the models and you need A LOT, gigs worth. You can imagine that the demographics of the developers are primarily Asian, Indian, or some Whites. So they're going to prioritize collecting data that fits their environment or what they want to classify and they're going to make sure the model works well enough for them before anything else. They can worry about having equal representation later.

I did a Machine Learning course at Udacity and one of our tasks was to program a Dog breed classifier. In the project, we also had it able to recognize human faces as well. I'm darker skinned than the guy in that article and I tested my project on my own face. No dice. I tried a friend of mine who is "clear skinned" (or several shades lighter than caramel for a reference point) for a black guy, no dice. Grabbed a photo of a Russian dude who is the CEO of a company I'm invested in, boom, works.

We need more diverse people in the AI/ML field to bring in more diverse datasets (this is probably the only time I'd push for diversity). Datasets are going to reflect the priorities of those who make them. On the flipside, it's a hard sell because this is a deep field and you have to be genuinely interested to commit to learning this stuff.

So if a guy begs a girl to have sex over and over but does NOT ever threaten her and the girl agrees to it, then it is rape?

That's a grey area. I do hear of girls who are relentlessly pressured and just give up and get it over with it. It's clear she doesn't want it but just wants the pressure to end. How do you classify this?

There's an indie game that copied the battle system, but not the rest of the games unfortunately.

I heard of this game. 2020 is its release, eh? Might check it out.

All I ask is for a Battle Network 7. Just give me a new arc, a reboot, a sequel, anything that's new with the battle system in tact in that same world. The gameplay is so good that it's an insult that indie developers haven't attempted to copy it.
