So while it might not be a true tenet of conservatism, the position has by and large been adopted by the party that represents conservatives. And said conservatives are willing to let their principles slide rather than change that. I just want to adore TFA in this topic Least favorite: The big damned heroes from the OT all grew up to be miserable failures. Phasma was pointless. Starkiller Base was pointless, not to mention such a big ripoff of the death star that it's even fucking lampshaded in the movie itself. Could have cut it out of the movie entirely and it wouldn't have been missed. The black character that looked so cool in trailers was pretty much comic relief. Constant tonal whiplash from an entire system being destroyed and nobody caring, or Finn shooting down his former comrades with a big grin on his face. Random weird plot holes that aren't big enough to derail things but clearly show that nobody was actually interested in keeping the script consistent: "The Milennium Falcon is super easy to trace so I can't take you right to the Resistance... but sure, take the Milennium Falcon to the super secret Skywalker hideout that we can't let the First Order find!" Treating Chewbacca like a non-character after Han's death (to be fair, they admitted that this one was a fuckup). JJ Abram's stupid "mystery box" style of storytelling which has never been a thing in Star Wars before TFA and made the experience so much worse with silly plot questions, complete with an ending that made things a ton harder for Rian Johnson. That stupid goddamned Rathtar scene that I fast forward through because it's just so dumb. An entire sociopolitical situation that was blatantly artificially engineered to recreate a "big empire vs. plucky rebels" scenario rather than being a natural progression from VI. Not only missing the chance to have Luke/Leia/Han reunite on the big screen, but THROWING IT AWAY ENTIRELY. Really I just hate this movie, worse than TLJ even. But I will list some positives to be fair. Things I liked: Kylo Ren is a new take on villainy for Star Wars, and imo it worked pretty well. Menacing at the beginning, but clearly a punk-ass teen clinging to memories of the past to boost his own menace. The one place I felt the through-line from 6 to 7 really worked. The fake-out with Poe having the lightsaber in previews but Rey being the Jedi was well-executed tbh. I liked Poe a lot -- skilled, charismatic, down-to-earth. And his droid pal was cute. Han's death was done well, as was the choreography of the lightsaber battle that followed. Almost everything that happened on Jakku was pretty good, honestly -- a nice slow start showing Rey's life, with the giant star destroyer hulks that she salvages from, etc... I liked it.
