I've got MANY hours playing Bubble Bobble, in various forms, but I didn't remember until playing the Switch port how hard the arcade original is. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a HARD game. I've played it for over 25 years, and still find some levels hard. But, after getting used to the Saturn version, playing a direct port of the arcade version is a little unsettling. The principal difference is how quickly, on some levels, the bubbles turn red and burst. The enemies escape quickly; when they did, it's the "angry" version. This makes them more dangerous, and makes it harder to time things like water and lightning attacks. Also, the movement of the enemies in general is a little different to other ports, which threw me off a little.

I can usually get to about level 70 without much trouble, but playing the arcade version this week, I struggled to even get to level 30. Wtf.

Any thoughts on all this?

Such an excellent film. I've been watching it in spurts, since the late 1990s, on both VHS and DVD. I know pretty much every scene extremely well.

I don't know why they made the graphics this way. The 3D models for Bub and Bob, and the enemies, look good, though.

It's interesting, but the graphics really are a weakness. These bizarre, glowy graphics, that use a lot of "cold", depressing colours. Not at all like the original. Every level looks kinda the same. I think the original had 100 original styles, one for each level.

I'm at to level 57 out of 100, I think. I might continue. I must admit, I might sit for a while and play the original, which is included as bonus content.

Brinley isn't actually too bad, but it sounds weird. Sawyer sounds...I'm not even sure. I prefer to think of it as a surname, e.g. Tom Sawyer, but as a given name, it sounds more male.

The basic gameplay hasn't altered much from the 30 year old original. Which is good. Same jumping around, blowing bubbles at enemies, trying to get your score as good as possible. The graphics, however, are very different. In a way, this is good. The main characters and enemies are all 3D creations, and look very nice. There is also something really bad, though, and that's the graphics for the levels themselves. The charm is almost completely gone. The same styles are repeated again and again; the colours used are drab and depressing, with too much blue; there's this science-fictiony glowy look, no doubt designed to make the game look modern and cool.

Music wise, it's fine. At least one remix of the iconic original song, and new music, too. The challenge level is well-done, and although I haven't gotten past level 50, it's already quite hard. Just like the original! The power-ups you unlock have improved what might otherwise have been slightly too simple gameplay, with stuff like lightning bobbles, and long-distance bubbles, but you can only use these things a few times per level, and then it's back to regular bubbles. Quite interesting.

The enemies are good. I thought it might be the return of the original set of enemies, e.g. Monsta, Hidegons, etc. but in glorious HD 3D, but it's a new bunch. They are reasonably interesting. Some run; others run and shoot; some bounce around. They are fun to fight against. There's a boss to fight every so often, which is annoying, and sometimes too hard, but not too bad. Bubble Bobble was never really about bosses, though.

Also included, is a port of the original game, which is (obviously) a good thing. It *appears* to be a direct port of the arcade game, as opposed to various other ports over the years, which tinkered, unwisely, with the elaborate scoring system, and also the graphics. So, if you want to go back and play the original, and try out for a new high score or whatever, you can.

Overall, seems decent. The graphics do bother me quite a lot, with their cold, lifeless feel, but the gameplay is really enjoyable, and you definitely know you're playing a Bubble Bobble game.

I'd say it's probably...Spring Yard Zone. Amazing graphics for the time, with the 3D-looking orange blocks, and the netting you could go behind. Tons of interesting paths and secret areas. Running up walls, "grazing" along ceilings, using half pipes. 3 acts, so plenty of content. Only dislikes for me are the slow bits with the moving platforms re-alligning, and the music isn't as good as other levels.

Well, well, well.

WRC Rally 8, which is a pretty fun game. Excellent graphics, lots to do, etc. I sometimes play a driving game for a while, especially if I REALLY like it, something like Crazy Taxi 1 or 2, maybe. But not like this. I finally beat a season of the Career Mode. It was challenging. I was kinda confused, though, because I didn't get any kind of grade, or rank, when I finished it. Then, it just said another season was beginning. Are you meant to just keep going, with the races getting harder or something? How do you see the end credits?

This game is pretty cool. I usually prefer kart / sci-fi racers, but this is a good realistic racer. Must be popular, since there are 8 games in the series.

I own very few, and have never beat them.

What do you do? In a kart racer, you usually just play through each tournament, I guess. Then the credits roll. What do you do in a more realistic racer? Is it always the same thing, or does it vary by game?

It's cool, because the ground in the distance is almost pitch black, but you can see the outlines of tall trees against the dark blue sky. It kinda sucks when your car gets so dinged up, that the headlights break, though...
