And I'm back! First impression is I was totally wowed by how remarkably Scorsese that movie felt, in all the right ways. Haven't seen any interviews but I'm imagining Taxi Driver and the like had a huge influence on this.

Tons of other thoughts percolating but I'm pretty comfortable saying that this is the best DC movie, though I guess that doesn't mean much for most folks, lol.

Digital games these days are tied to your account on all platforms so unless you lose your log-in or something you don't need to worry on that front. If we're talking extremely long term then all physical media is eventually going to degrade to the point of unplayability.

I actually didn't end up thinking much of Super Metroid because I didn't play it until after Zero Mission (yeah, I know.) The game feels so much stiffer than the GBA titles that the overall feel was super underwhelming, even if the map was good.

Dashing wasn't in the original JP release I believe, but it was added in the vanilla western versions. We actually got quite a few bits of polish and QoL changes, including a total UI overhaul! (Vanilla JP had black/white NES style menus with no icons or anything.)

I almost never use the handheld mode. If I ever take my Switch out of the dock, 99% of the time it's to take it to someone else's house and put it in their dock.

Oh hey, I was so sure I'd be one of the last folks around here playing this so late in the year. I'm really early on (just beat Lady Butterfly) and I'm totally loving it already. I'm sure it'll only get better but the posture system is a true delight in how it naturally leads you to a toe-to-toe max stakes fight with even the toughest enemies.

The whole thing feels like the definitive answer to the gripe folks have about swords just feeling like baseball bats in so many other games. When you hear metal clash, see those sparks fly and finally land that blood-spewing deathblow, there's no doubt you're wielding a sword here.

I have mixed feelings about knowing what all of these are. Glitchy Kickstarter would be the way to go if it... wasn't glitchy on your platform of choice. Astral Chain is better than all of these, though.

No one actually cares about this. "Is the game fun or not" is literally all that matters.

Going to have to disagree! Even with a very recent example, Links Awakening on Switch, despite the game being awesome and fun by all metrics you'll still see the bizarre frame rate issues pop up in most reviews and all over the place in casual discussion. Performance does matter.

PS4 was the same way! Even the Pro was just a band-aid fix, the processing power for the last two generations has been straight up abysmal.

Ingrid dodging everything is great, it's hoping she doesn't get horrendously STR screwed that's the trick.

This gets mostly fixed by taking her Pegasus Rider -> Wyvern Rider -> Falcon Knight. The certification bonuses alone gave my Ingrid a free 7 strength, lol.

I'm also pretty anti-hyped on this. Just feels like Kojima's trying super hard to be a Lynchian game dev but we've seen no shadow of any real substance to back it up. The "gameplay" all just seems like an incoherent pile of "wouldn't this be cool" mechanics that Kojima probably pulled from his dreams or something. I want to believe it'll be good, but I'm just not seeing any indication that Unchained Kojima is the auteur he acts like he is.

This all kinda highlights my continuing gripe with the console environment - that (almost) regardless of all other factors, exclusives are all that really matter. Xbox kicks the pants off of both PS4 and Switch when it comes to performance, infrastructure, online capabilities, services etc. But they've basically fully exited even trying to have any true exclusives so they end up being the bottom of the pile.

Granted at this point going in a completely different direction with their lack of exclusive titles is probably smart - like a balding man shaving his head - but the fact this video even exists indicates it hasn't done much to change perceptions yet. And I can see why - even with how much I approve of their business decisions of late (compared to Sony especially) I have basically no reason to interact with Xbox when they put everything on PC... which I guess is still a win for Microsoft but I'm not sure how much it helps the Xbox brand lol.

TLDR I really dislike the idea of exclusives but Xbox taking bronze in a race of three shows how much getting those titles still matters

I'd actually go so far as to say it's the best game for introducing someone to the character action genre, even if it doesn't quite hold up to its brethren at the highest levels of play. (That said, it may actually surpass them on a first run for some folks, just because of how crazy inventive the fighting style is and how many toys you get to play with.)

There's lots of investigation and police stuff in a super cool cyberpunk setting to break up the action, and the combat itself is some of the freshest we've seen in ages, if not quite as polished as the tried and true approaches undertaken by games like Bayonetta and DMC. Don't sleep on it!

What exactly is happening with the sprites here? These aren't the ones from the mobile games, and the enemies don't even appear to be sprites, but pasted artwork.

I also have crazy mixed feelings about it but it's my favorite Team Ico game by a good bit.

The controls are objectively abysmal but somehow it works really well. As you learn to use the jank controls and manipulate Trico's super questionable AI you end up actually feeling like you're growing closer to Trico since stuff that was once super frustrating becomes natural.

Combine that with the superb animations and how easy it is to fall in love with Trico and the game ended up landing way better than I expected it to. (I've already said it's my favorite Team Ico game, but if you asked me during my first 4 hours with it I would've told you it was one of the most disappointing games I'd ever played.)

The big surprise of the twist really makes the movie and its not as great when you know its coming. At least IMO

I actually feel the opposite - it's kind of incredible to watch the earlier parts of the movie knowing what's going on and seeing how much it gets hinted at.

Blue Lions is the only path I played and I feel like I know absolutely nothing of consequence about the world, which had a ton of appealing plot threads lying about in part 1! I nearly did a spit take when I did Seteth and Flayn's A support and had that fucking massive bomb dropped on me - far bigger than anything in the actual plot - that apparently just had no meaning to the story.
