VanananaHeyHey

I ate guinea pig when I was in Ecuador, but it was fried, so it was very tough. I imagine better preparations could have softer meat. I would never want it in an ice cream (not a fan of bacon ice cream either).

It wasn't as good as rabbit by a long shot, but it's probably an appropriate comparison to make since they're both rodents. And, again, it might have been the prep or the fact that I was a teenager and didn't have an extensive food vocabulary yet. At the time, I said it was "like 3/4ths chicken, 1/4th fish," but I doubt my words in retrospect.

It doesn't actually take any mental athleticism to see the pathway:
-Wareen claimed ancestry (which is true and does corroborate her family story)
-Native leaders say that ancestry =/= tribal membership, something Warren never claimed
-"Liberals are liars."
-Trump gives a nickname meant to mock her claims and remind everyone what a lying liar she is; the nickname is that of a historical Native woman.

There is no non-racist motivation for thinking that 'Pocahontas' would play well with any electoral group. It's the same rationale that lets Republicans at all levels of government call Democrats the 'real racists' while talking about the dangers of "inner cities," "sharia" and "immigrants" as problems the GOP can fix or eradicate.

What

The Republicans want Warren's claim of Native ancestry to be framed as a purposeful appropriation of minority status that is offensive to Native Americans...and Trumo's tack has been to use a derogatory nickname against Warren based in Native history.

The racism is that they think using the name of a real Native person to insult Warren is a winning strategy or that it would somehow be less offensive to Native Americans than a woman who restated a family story. It would be like calling Rachel Dolezal 'Booker T' to mock her claims of Blackness; why the hell bring Booker T or Pocahontas into condemnation of someone White?

I've been the fortunate recipient of pounds and pounds of goat cubes. Most are in the freezer, but I kept about two pounds out to cook.

In the past, I've eaten goat, but never cooked it. Some stuff online mentioned soaking it in milk; will it be very tough? Any tips or beloved spice mixes I should try? Thank you as always, CE.

It's not the same, but I had cyclical vomiting for about four years due to ulcers I got in grab school and ended up quitting my job because it was an hour bus ride each way. I was underemployed, so it wasn't the worst decision either way, but it really impacted my confidence for future jobs.

I work from home now doing language analysis and the vomiting cycle has mostly subdued the past year or so. Things are slowly looking up.

Do you guys really get close to 100% of the daily recommended amounts for Iron, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, etc?

*shrugs* I've never had any vitamin deficiencies in adult life. The B vitamins are the ones you need daily because you pee them out. If you're worried, take a multivitamin once or twice a week for maintenance, but eating enough of a good diet really ought to give you most of what you need. Remember, food sources are how our species developed what ought be our baseline, so if you're eating 'right,' you're giving yourself what you need, especially when you recall the periods of famine we evolved during (no point counting your macros when all you have is blubber and tubers for the next five months).

Vitamin C specifically is in pretty much every common fruit and most vegetables: tomatoes, citrus, apples, carrots, celery, spinach. Most of those also have Vitamin A. Add some eggs for iron and choline and you're basically set before we even get to the tasty animal fats.

i don't have any good halloween costume memories because my family has always been pretty poor and i was the youngest of 3 kids, which means that by the time things like this got to me it was compromise time, so all of my costumes were either lame handmade craft stuff that my mom did herself or cheap walmart crap.

I'm sorry, that sounds tough and really frustrating. My mom made my costumes, too, and she often took shortcuts. I was an only child, though, so they dumped a lot of resources into me.

Do you get any trick-or-treaters where you live?

Vegetables: These by far make up the bulk of my diet by plate volume and may almost match meat in terms of absolute volume by weight.

Fruits: Several times a week, but not every day. They go into smoothies or as a one-off snack an hour before a workout.

Nuts: Rare. I like them and they're handy snacks, but I infrequently snack and I'm not hard up for other sources of fat, fiber or protein.

You can have family togetherness and reinforce basic tenets of schooling and morals outside of school hours.

Keeping them isolated in no way prepares them for the real world or does anything to diminish social anxiety; rather, it legitimizes it. Exposing children to more ideas is only ever beneficial for their well-being and intellect.

That doesn't sound good. Were they trying to pull some BS out of a can, too?

I wasn't suggesting using mushroom soup as anything other than a soup side dish and wouldn't suggest it. Having too much meat pride makes you miss out on lots of other tasty foods, but it's obnoxious when people try to make vegetarian replacements mimic meat dishes, too. Vegetables (etc.) are good on their own merits and should be enjoyed that way.

Solid. That's a cool costume. Drag about the trick-or-treaters, though. I hope you get some. I grew up in a rural area and we never got any because all the kids in my area went to the closest suburbs for candy.

When I grew up and moved to a suburb, I was so excited to get trick-or-treaters, but because it was an apartment, I never did the four years I was there.

I hurt my leg once when I was a tween and trick-or-treated in a wheelchair with a sunhat cut up to look like someone in an electric chair. Since I couldn't go up stairs, I'd stay on the sidewalk and holler 'trick-or-treat!' while my friends went up for candy for all of us. One old lady thought I was mental delayed/physically handicapped and gushed over how nice my friends were for taking the poor invalid out. We got so much candy from her, but I always felt guilty.

I cut some purple scrubs into shorts then pieced it together from there. Had a buddy print graphics on a shirt, found a green bowler hat and cut out the black question marks to glue on. Most of it was stuff I shopped for like purple and green long socks so nothing to crazy or original but nothing from a costume shop or anything.

The tuxes were a blast we went to like a shop where you rent costumes (for like plays and stuff) and then pieced it together there. We won the costume contest (second place was a killer Garth and Wayne duo). Were both really animated people too so we went into full character for it.

Those both sound really great. Pulling things together into the outfit is the best version of the fun of dressing up. Mad props on that and congrats on your victory!
