Hate to say it, but I think my primary (well, the primary one around the house, not the one I bring to work) is officially dying. It had randomly been having some issues a few days ago and, on either Saturday or Sunday, the screen had blacked out for a while and it seemed so I unplugged it and let the battery drain... and then, after kinda getting it going again, it blacked out and I unplugged it again (which I'm worried interrupted some function). It's only semi-working now and is sluggish as hell, either freezing or taking too long to do basic shit.

I can't remember when I bought it, but it's not a super old laptop. Spybot Search & Destroy program -- which I figured I'd try since I can't remember what I had been using -- notes that I last used the program 1737 days ago (which is 4.7 years). So I'm guessing that laptop is 6 years old tops. But now I've got to figure out what the fuck I want to do for a laptop or whether to go back to a normal PC for my primary home device.

If the laptop was in even reasonable condition, I might try to get fixed instead but at this point the chassis is completely busted where the screen connects to the rest and the battery has been pretty well shot for a while so it just seems easier to get either a new computer or laptop.

VeeVees posted...
Never had a laptop die of normal use (other than battery). The only one that's not functional is the one I left near a window for way too long and the screen died of sun damage.

I leave mine in a place that kinda gets hot so I'm wondering if it's taken some damage there..

Its not like we could, oh, maybe make the battle animations more interesting? Like, just make some movement animations so that we get even a somewhat repetetive sequence of movements accompanying moves that at least sometimes look like something as decent as you'd see in the first anime? Not like they could actually try and make a really proper modern RPG worldscape either, right? Not like they could just finally fix their damn "4 moves only" system by at least changing it to "you can only EQUIP 4 moves for any given battle, but you still remember the other moves to experiment with at your leisure, or can swap any learned move out as you see fit. Oh, and allow HM moves out of battle as long as you have the HM itself and at least one pokemon with it, since that is ALWAYS annoying to deal with outside of the one or two that actually are also good combat moves."

You can retrieve old moves and you can use TMs an unlimited number of times now so effectively you have that already.

It has been documented that ICE illegally detains people, wrongly deports people, and seeks out non-criminal immigrants.

No, even before ICE, you were deported for being here illegally. You didn't have to commit a major crime for it. I'm not sure where you read that propaganda and it's exhausting to debunk that nonsense so it doesn't spread.

And it's exhausting to explain why we have ICE for the umpteenth time, considering the ignorance surrounding the program where people don't understand that this is it for our immigration enforcement. Or, more likely, they don't understand why we need immigration to be enforced in the first place.

It might be somewhat less exhausting if you didn't reply to unrelated posts. But since you decided to target me, you do realize that you can enforce immigration law with discretion and without committing gross human rights violations, right? Or that this country functioned just fine before we had ICE? ICE should be disbanded and replaced.

Except it didn't function "just fine" prior to ICE and even with ICE we haven't come close to addressing illegal immigration. Ironically enough, countries like Canada handle illegal immigration more effectively but that's because their services are tied together so they can identify illegals more quickly so that they could be removed.... granted, Canada has fewer issues in general because they don't have to deal with as many incursions.

kangolcone posted...
Right. The creation of ICE and DHS were just heavy handed government interventions to expand the power of the federal government and create a police state. I knew that and its part of the reason it should be abolished.

And this is the kind of exhausting silly propaganda that needs to be stamped out. There's nothing unusual about the consolidation of government agencies, since agency functions are routinely consolidated and split. It's just stupid fearmongering.

To relieve you of just a little of your ignorance:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Immigration_and_Customs_Enforcement

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was formed pursuant to the Homeland Security Act of 2002, following the events of September 11, 2001. With the establishment of the Department of Homeland Security, the functions and jurisdictions of several border and revenue enforcement agencies were combined and consolidated into U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Consequently, ICE is the largest investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security, and the second largest contributor to the nation's Joint Terrorism Task Force.

The agencies that were either moved entirely or merged in part into ICE included the criminal investigative and intelligence resources of the United States Customs Service, the criminal investigative, detention and deportation resources of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, and the Federal Protective Service. The Federal Protective Service was later transferred from ICE to the National Protection and Programs Directorate effective October 28, 2009. In 2003, Asa Hutchinson moved the Federal Air Marshals Service from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to ICE,[12] but Michael Chertoff moved them back to the TSA in 2005.[13]

...and this is EXACTLY the ignorance I'm talking about. As I've had to explain numerous times in the past -- and yes, it's exhausting -- ICE consolidated multiple government agencies and functions, including deportations. If you got rid of ICE today, you'd get rid of the mechanism for deportations.

I shouldn't have to explain this to a presumably grown adult who went through the education system, but a "new" government agency doesn't necessarily mean all of its functions are new. Agencies are constantly shifted and reconfigured.

I think everybody agrees that America has a mass incarceration problem, although the answers range from "build more prisons" to "stop sentencing people for so damn long." Like I said in another topic lately, it doesn't make much sense to have a normal criminal serve more than 20 years. Over the weekend, an Antifa member was killed while committing a terrorist attack against an immigration center. I had been waiting to hear something about it on the boards, but... crickets.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/tacoma-ice-police-shooting-washington-willem-van-spronsen-antifa-detention-centre-a9004131.html

Granted, it's not surprising for AOC to spend her time trying to get people to focus on Trump's mean tweet -- after all, she ratcheted up anti-ICE sentiment and went so far as to call detention centers concentration camps, a phrase that the Antifa terrorist used in the manifesto he sent to friends before the attack:

https://twitter.com/Jake_Hanrahan/status/1150445145034297344/photo/1

Of course, it's also not surprising that the media would ignore this, considering that CNN recently featured the terrorist in a segment.

https://twitter.com/MrAndyNgo/status/1150512511436746752

And keep in mind that, within days of the attack, you have guys like PK Spam demonizing ICE and making WWII villain comparisons:

The older ERBs are far superior.

This season has been weak, but some of the more reason seasons were still great. Season 5 had "Gordon Ramsay vs. Julia Child", which grew on me (one of the PotDers really loved this episode but it took me a bit longer to come around to it), as well as the insta-favorite "Alexander the Great vs. Ivan the Terrible", and the absurdly catchy "James Bond vs. Austin Powers". Plus "J. R. R. Tolkien vs. George R. R. The weakest season might have been Season 1, but ERB had a smaller budget and hadn't found its groove yet. That said, it still had "Mr. T vs. Mr. Rogers" and one my favorites, "Billy Mays vs. Ben Franklin"

Bulbasaur's advantages include:
-Poison subtyping, which means he's immune to being poisoned, a common and annoying status condition
-Type advantages against the first three/four gyms (SE vs Rock/Ground, SE vs + resists water, and resists electricity... and he resists grass for Erika's gym, although he needs to use non-grass moves). In general, he has a type advantage of some kind vs 5 of the 8 gyms.
-Evolves to final form at an earlier level
-(Gen 1) Has access to Razor Leaf which, under Gen 1 mechanics, had a 100% critical hit rate (which also bypasses stat changes)
-(Gen 1) Has access to Sleep Power which, under Gen 1 mechanics, caused Pokemon to lose the turn they wake up.

Granted, between the starters from all games, I think Mudkip has more advantages.

Obnoxious trolling? No, there were threatening messages which is a crime and it's going cost his ass 14 million dollars if he ever steps foot in the US again, however, where the hell country he's in? Sometimes you can make someone pay even if they are outside the US, from what it seems it's maybe somewhere in the 3rd world.

Yeah, I don't think Ducky knows what's what. Granted, I'm also not entirely sure why this went to civil courts instead of a criminal one... well, unless it failed in a criminal court or was simply about the money. By all rights, he should be in jail instead of paying off his victim.

Not sure what incident you're referring to. There was a mentally ill youth who attacked counterprotesters with his car, but he wasn't a Nazi and all I did was call him insane, which isn't "defending" him by any sane metric.

Again, I'm not sure what Nazi you could possibly be talking about, especially because Nazis wouldn't tattoo a "Nazi symbol" (and which symbol is that?) onto their face. You have a very vivid imagination.

nazi.

you defended them both, by the way.

or do i have to drudge through the archive website to show you doing it, since you seem to always have memory issues.

Considering that both of them have NEO right there in the title (and aren't nearly old enough to been around for WWII), they're clearly Neo-Nazis rather than actual Nazis. Second, and more importantly, I never "defended" either one of them; unless calling one mentally ill is seen as a "defense" and... well, I can't remember what I said about the other. I'm sure Mead will make something flashy up, though.

you're the president, how do you have so much time to just go golfing

First, because there's not much that actually needs doing most of the time. Second, because most of the stuff that gets done happens at lower levels. Most of the time, the president is a figurehead which is why so much time is spent on making appearances and giving speeches.

idk, something just looks really off about all of their faces in that photo. It's like some uncanny valley shit where I'm not looking at real people or something.

At this point hes just trying to muddy the waters so much in every direction that no one knows what to believe. Create enough noise and make enough wild accusations and maybe no one will notice the egg on his face.

What can I say it starts striking a chord when they start making creepy posts about you and then turn around and flatly deny ever posting such a thing

What can I say that you're constantly striking creepy chords. More importantly, the creepiest thing is you remembering this shit that people normally wouldn't. That's some stalker-level shit there. And it's unsurprising when somebody doesn't remember or attach significance to an off-the-cuff remark because why the fuck would they remember it? And it's worth noting that many of these "make creepy posts about you" involved acknowledgements of facts you introduced into the topic. Because apparently you bring up shit and expect us to neither mention nor remember it mere minutes later while, hypocritically enough, bringing up something others said half a year ago and making a big deal because the person thought it was over a year ago.

I never did either and even told NMB his topic was messed up before it was deleted. And Im pretty sure arctic threatened half of potd in his implosion event

...if you bothered to check my edited post, you'd notice that your name was on there by typo. Although you likely noticed that and proceeded to push your claim anyway.

As for NMB, I don't think I ever even saw the topic so I'm not sure why you keep bring it up as something I might have found significant. I'm fairly sure I only heard it about second-hand after the fact... which you're no doubt going to take as "adamant insistence" and then ask somebody to PM you (or PM yourself) something that suggests I might seen it.

I really dont remember Zeus whining this much when he first started visiting this board.

The funny thing is that I distinctly remember him starting to post on PotD during the 2016 election campaign, like he was ordered here to defend Trump from the online PotD community.

Because apparently I started posting on PotD in 2015 because I knew in advance that Donald Trump was going to run for president and this one board needed to be swayed by initially semi-disparaging comments about Trump. I mostly keep coming back for your idiotic conspiracy theories.

its hilarious when conservatives try to bitch about the ACA nowadays cause if it was really so bad youd think republican lawmakers would have come up with a single alternative replacement plan

It's hilarious when liberals accuse people of being conservatives and also believe that the ACA needs a replacement plan. The ACA needs a REMOVAL plan.

Mead posted...
Its why so many of them dont talk about the whole repeal and replace strategy anymore. They never had and still dont have a replacement and they know its a political loser for them. If we get rid of the ACA its to replace it with universal care just like every other first world country.

The ACA should be repealed but, given the entirety of the bill, there's no need for a replacement.
