I think if you interpret the question "how actually meaningful is your job?" at that micro level - i.e. are you as an individual person replaceable? Then of course everyone is replaceable.

I actually interpreted the question as whether what you are part of is meaningful to society in terms of actually providing real benefit or value to the community. This could be taken at a macro level (eg I work at a NFP in accounting so even if I am not directly doing the charity work, I take a haircut to market remuneration to help fund those activities) or at a "job" level (ie is the role meaningful vs. you as an individual person currently employed in that role).

I find it interesting how a large proportion of people posting here dont feel their employer or role actually contributes to society.

Generally speaking though the roles must be supporting some kind of greater purpose otherwise they would cease to exist. Sounds more like the leadership havent done a sufficiently good job of setting the tone at the top for the vision.

This.

If someone calls me and I don't recognize the number, it goes to voicemail. If no voicemail is left, they clearly didn't have anything of dire importance to say.

I flat-out don't respond to texts, because I find them obnoxious. Either e-mail me, so I can respond to you on a proper keyboard instead of a tiny touchscreen, or call me - your pick.

I hate voicemails more though as they take me time to listen and then respond, whilst also preventing me from multitasking. I wish everyone would just email me.

Alternatively even though I work in a client service industry so taking calls is part and parcel of the job, 99% of the time, queries couldve been answered by one of my team members anyway.

I went under general and did all four. They were coming out and I initially ignored the advice of the professionals and it led to random headaches which interferes with my studies and work. The trick to avoiding pain is actually to keep your mouth sterile afterwards using a syringe and salt water whenever you eat anything. Try to eat liquid foods which can go straight down without chewing so they minimise risk of infection from bits being left in mouth.

But dem banks want their money, y'hear??

The flip side is if banks could not get their money back when borrowers defaulted then theyd be more risk averse in lending making it harder and more expensive for people to borrow. But again flip side is if credit costs rise, there may be less people buying which wouldve pushed housing prices down.

I am a director of a large consulting firm specialising in helping banks with meeting their regulatory reporting and capital adequacy requirements - basically working out how much they can lend whilst balancing their risk and regulatory reporting requirements. I also help automate these processes to make them more efficient and cheaper to run.

Depending on perspective I am either helping people and businesses afford their dreams, or Im on the other end of the spectrum of helping society. I like to think Im the former.

Lack of plastic bags used to annoy me at shops here in Australia but I've gotten used to it - I'm more efficient in bringing my reusable bags to the shops (and stash a bunch in the car), how I pack my groceries, take trolley to car, etc... but what has continued to annoy me is I no longer have a source of free garbage bags and instead end up buying them thus defeating the point of the whole exercise.

It's all relative. But I guess if you don't set any goals or ambitions, you have nothing to measure by.

I set myself some pretty challenging objectives back when I was 18 which I didn't hit (e.g. earn $500k p/a by 30, live and work overseas, etc), but it at least gave me something to work towards.

I actually think it's good how the dialogue doesn't take itself too seriously and that's what makes it work. Story and dialogue are just segues which join the interesting bits together. Every now and then, you get some meme-worthy lines too.
