"Now I know what it's like to be black."

I mean...no. ...But also kinda? He's used to getting away with crime due to white privilege, but due to politics he's facing increased scrutiny, and so not getting his normal amount of privilege.

(Of course, the part he hasn't connected the dots on is that if he was a black president then congress wouldn't have waited nearly this long to impeach).

Bernie Sanders also endorsed Hillary over Stein, for the record, so I don't know what this is supposed to prove.

Like...really? Encouraging the left to split the presidential vote? If you actually care about passing left-wing policies, keeping the gains from the Affordable Care Act, etc I don't know what that accomplishes. Like...no joke, often the biggest contributors to the American green party are right wingers looking to cause the left to split the vote. For example:

I do wonder though if the boy would do the same things if he did not have two older sisters but two older brothers or even no siblings at all.

There's still a mom to borrow clothes from, so eventually it would come out if there's some desire for experimentation there. (Not until the kid was big enough to try on mom's clothes, but still).

This is likely unrelated to the sibling situation.

I do agree that it doesn't really indicate that the kid is gay or trans any more than a girl playing with cars indicates that. (Although it does make it more likely. But definitely not guaranteed, the same way plenty of girls go through a tomboy phase without growing up to be lesbians).

I definitely remember doing stuff like that around age 6.

In fairness it's kind of a different approach to the problem; when you're six you don't rearrange the equation, you tend to just plug numbers into x until you find one that works.

He was actually figuring it out though. Which is what was so surprising to us. It's not like he was just taking guesses until it worked.

Well, yeah, the guesses are kind-of internal/intuitive, not said out loud.

You do stuff like try out a number, realize it needs to be higer by about 20, try an x that's 20 higher, it works, say that number out loud.

Or you just mentally get used to an addition on the same side of the equation as x is like a subtraction so your mind processes it like that and you come up with a number, try it out to be sure, and say that number.

When I actually got to algebra in school, I would drive my teachers mad at first because I never showed any steps, just wrote down the answer that came to me. (This eventually stops working around grade 11 or so).

OK, so it's a different genre of game then...? Or instead of "game", "electronic entertainment" if you're so stuck up that you really hate using the word "game" to describe the sims.

It's literally an argument about semantics on how to define a different genre.

That was 2017 though. What exactly has he done in 2018 or 2019?

All I can think of is various scandals (trying to get Muller fired, putting kids in cages, asking foreign governments to interfere in US elections, causing an extra long government shutdown).

Firing 800 employees while seeing record profits, and the way they handled the end of HGC: not telling the players or esports teams until suddenly they announced out of the blue no more HGC.

So I looked up bra size naming and it's pretty weird. Each letter is an inch on cup size measurement, except D and DD are each an inch, and DDD is the same as F. That's the US version. The UK has E, FF, and GG added, but no DDD. I'm guessing JJ is one inch more than J, even though this chart doesn't show it.

Most people on the internet use UK sizing, because American companies can't get their shit together about being consistent on sizing, so it goes

A: 1
B: 2
C: 3
D: 4
DD: 5
E: 6
F: 7
FF: 8
G: 9
GG: 10
H: 11
HH: 12
J: 13
JJ: 14

And yeah, it's a pretty weird system, like there's no EE, no I, and no II. UK sizing is weird, but it has become the standard.

Worth noting that these are differences between circumference measurements. So a 4 inch difference in measurements (D) tends to mean that the boobs come out about 2 inches away from the chest.

If you're thinking "wait, 2 inches away from the chest, that doesn't sound very large"--it's not. But for years US shopping centers only stocked A-D cups, so people got the misleading impression that D must be a large size because that was the largest size in stores. Also a lot of people don't measure themselves properly. (If you actually go to a specialty shop with a range of size options, you're looking at more like C-GG as commonly available size ranges).

From what I hear, the meta is dominated by Mysterious Challenger again.

Ehh...no doesn't look like Mysterious Challenger is all that popular.

Going by HSReplay, Secret Paladin is the 7th most popular Paladin deck (behind more popular decks like quest paladin and holy wrath paladin). HSReplay also has it as a tier 2 deck (whereas tip the scales paladin is still tier 1, for instance).

There's also a version of highlander paladin floating around that runs one copy of Mysterious Challenger (some builds of highlander paladin aren't running Mysterious Challenger at all, though). But either way, it's highlander--they only have one copy of the card. (Highlander is probably the strongest deck running Mysterious Challenger, though).

I'm not expecting Mysterious Challenger to do that much when the dust settles--nobody plays that card in wild, and secret paladin and highlander paladin were garbage decks in standard before they brought back the wild cards. Mysterious Challenger is like...a 6 mana 10/10, it's strong, and that might be impressive except Druid has a 5 mana 10/10 (Oasis Surger), I don't think Challenger's going to single-handedly carry weak archetypes, but maybe it can make them into tier 2-3 decks or something.

Alright, let's take a look:

"I want to take a few minutes to talk to all of you about the Hearthstone Grandmasters tournament this past weekend."

SVO.

"talk you tournament" is...I guess indirect object before the object

"past weekend" "few minutes"-- this is adjective before the noun, whereas mandarin would be "weekend past" "minutes few".

Ehh...there's just nothing weird about this sentence, feels normal to me.

"On Monday, we made the decision to take action against a player named blitzchung and two shoutcasters after the player shared his views on whats happening in Hong Kong on our official broadcast channel."

OK, so a few things grammatically feel weird--sentence is long and rambly, and IDK why there's a comma after Monday. I don't really think any of this implies translation, though. Looking at other J Allen Brack writing, he throws around commas like they're candy so seems legit.

SVO "we made decision", "[we] take (action against) player", "player shared views".

No real adjectives or adverbs to look at ("official broadcast channel", oh man)

So...none of the markers I was looking for. I will note that the compounding is an unusual choice, though. "we made the deicision to take action" instead of "we took action". Still perfectly sensible English.

"At Blizzard, our vision is to bring the world together through epic entertainment."

The use of quotations here is one thing the twitter user called out. Not a smoking gun by any means, but weird I guess. Here's what he wrote in February "One thing that remains constant: we are committed to creating epic games and entertainment experiences. "

SVO "[our vision] is [stuff]"

Honestly short sentence, not much here.

"And we have core values that apply here: Think Globally; Lead Responsibly; and importantly, Every Voice Matters, encouraging everybody to share their point of view."

What the? Why are there semicolons instead of commas after Think Globally, Lead Responsibly? Like...I can see why if someone had this in a word processor, the word processor might put a red underline and tell you to add a semicolon. "Think Globally" is technically a complete sentence. But in this context it's an object, enumerating core values.

I checked J Allen Brack's past writing, he never used a semicolon. So...I mean, yeah, this is weird.

Starting the sentence with And...why hello there King James Bible. Yeah, this is a bit odd--not something he's in the habbit of doing looking at his past writing.

One thing that suggests against a translation here, though, is capitalization of all the core values. Capitalizing random words in sentences is something I do All The Time And It Drives Some Of My Friends Crazy. But if you're just shoving it through a translator you'll lose all the capitalization every time.

SVO "we have [core values]". "everybody to share [their point of view]"

Not a lot of adjectives or adverbs to work with "core values"--not going to mess that up.

"The actions that we took over the weekend are causing people to question if we are still committed to these values."

OSV "[the actions that] we took" -- this is a construction that does not exist in mandarin as far as I know.

SVO "[actions...] are causing people"

---------

Ehhh...alright, well, it's weird for sure, particularly in the punctuation, might be translated from something, but I don't see much that suggests Mandarin in particular.

Yeah, seems likely that it was written in another language, although I'm not sure we can linguistically tie this down to China. (As noted above the elipses could just have easily come from a Japanese keyboard).

I'm looking up what I can on Mandarin specifically. Mandarin is usually SVO, occasionally SOV (SVO is the same as English, "I drink Juice", so we're unlikely to catch too much here).

Mandarin places indirect object before the direct object ("give me book" -- in english it would be "give me the book"). This contrasts it from other mainland languages like cantonese (which are "give book me" -- in english this would be like "give the book to me")

Mandarin places adverbs before verbs, e.g. "I first go", rather than "I go first".

Mandarin places adjectives after the noun, e.g. "wind strong", rather than "strong wind"

Alright, now let's go to the Blizzard writing to see if we can catch any slips or a pattern...and the blizzard announcement seems to be gone? What? Is it just me? EDIT: ok, nvm found a link that works; I'll start a new post.

I don't know how much punishment they should get for their part, (the lifetime ban from all blizzard games was disgusting, and 6 months still seems harsh), but I do understand them getting some kind of punishment.

Also, ironically, Ulti has already gifted Blizzard with so much money on Hearthstone purchases that it would probably require at least an additional 500 players quitting just to make up for all the money he has already spent there.

That is not how it works. Activision Blizzard laid off 800 employees at the start of this year in no small part because Hearthstone numbers were dipping.

Companies need sustained revenue to support team sizes. (If anything the reddit complaint with hearthstone is that they hadn't been adding enough new features to hearthstone, so people wanted an even larger team to add even more stuff to the game; tournament mode, replays etc).

And it's not just hearthstone players who are boycotting; people are cancelling their WoW subscriptions, cancelling their TFT preorders, etc.

Reddit and GameFAQs are a bit of a bubble, granted, so who knows how big of an impact these boycotts will actually have. But there's no such thing as "oh, someone gave them hundreds of dollars a few years ago, so lots of people would need to quit to make up for that". I would estimate the operating budget of Hearthstone at probably around 20 million per year.

It's all in the level of response, though.

Like...yesterday, Blizzard deleted the VoD, and my response was like "yeah, I get why they deleted that VoD". That felt like not wanting to take a side.

Today they fired two casters who didn't say anything, banned the player, and reduced his pay to 0. This absolutely feels like taking a side.

I fully expect that yes, stripping naked live or using racial slurs would get the same response from Blizzard.

But when you say "upset a lot of people"--we're talking about upsetting a government here. It's not really the same thing. It would be like me saying "Trudeau shouldn't have bought a pipeline". I doubt most Canadian citizens would get angry about that, but the government might.

In this scenario, a rule existed against this and he chose to do it.

The "rule" was

"Engaging in any act that, in Blizzards sole discretion, brings you into public disrepute, offends a portion or group of the public"

Ok, so they can terminate you and get rid of all your prize money if you "offend anyone". That's the rule that was broken here. This could apply to almost anything; wearing the wrong kind of clothing (there are definitely people who would be offended by a MAGA hat, for example).

And yet, somehow this is the first time they have ever enforced this rule, or at least enforced it so fast. Like...a few weeks ago, a player was caught playing their Hearthstone GrandMasters game and an AutoChess tournament at the same time, so distracted he literally forgot to keep his combo pieces in hand. They just warned him not to do it again. A few years ago, a player was caught straight up cheating, took them a year to even act, people would spam "Roger is a cheater" in chat every time he came on camera. The community was outraged. Nothing.

Also, why are the casters fired here?

Now the question becomes which classes are the biggest winners by these reintroductions.

The big winners are mostly classes and archetypes that are underplayed right now. Like...mage gets the most (flamewaker and babbling book), but flamewaker doesn't necessarily go into the most popular mage deck (highlander mage).

The popular Priest deck doesn't get a whole lot, but control priest gets a ton with lightbomb.

The popular paladin decks won't get very much, but secret paladin will get somewhat of a boost. Highlander Paladin will also get a significant boost because Curator fetches Finley.

Biggest boost to decks that are already good are: Quest Druid, specifically quest Malygos (Thaurissan), Quest Shaman (Evolve) and Highlander Hunter (Sylvannas+Nine Lives+Call of the Wild with Zul'Jin still in standard).

I bought the whole adventure, 15 packs, and have been pretty consistently getting free packs from leaving the HGC stream running over the weekend, like 10 packs from that. And then another 3 packs from the tavern brawl event they had before the single player launch. So like...28 packs, no legendary?

I mean, I was only expecting to get one legendary off of these packs, and I probably still will before the next expansion (plenty more events HGC packs before the next expansion) but I was subconsiously expecting that this week having 6 packs of the adventure would finally push me over the pity timer. LOL nope.

Lol, in GM someone brought Spellward Jewler Azalina Soulthief and then pulled it out against Malygos Druid, and killed them with their own combo.

Can I get a link to that March? That sounds awesome.

But Im definitely not sure about that list even being real, its extremely uneven in quite a lot of ways.

I mean, if it's a fake it's a really smart one.

* Came from a fairly high level player who's aiming to get into GM, could plausibly get the list from a GM friend.
* Has a lot of fan favourite cards
* Doesn't have a lot of hated cards or cards that reddit kept predicting (no Genn, no Baku, no death knights)
* Doesn't have cards that would be weird like quests (you cant have two quests active at once)
* Doesn't have singleton cards like Reno or Kazakus (highlander decks are already good in standard, and already gain a lot from adding a bunch of legendaries)
* Has strong support for decks that are bad in standard (secret paladin support, lots of mage support with mage being the least played class, control priest support with cards that probably don't go into the dominant priest deck).

Like...it's a pretty well thought-out list.

There's maybe three aspects of this list that make me skeptical: Evolve seems a bit strong for quest shaman. Kun seems a bit strong for Quest Druid. And I would expect more support for a control warlock, although...I'm not sure what the control warlock support card would be. (Defile is probably out cause none of the other cards rotated out this year, so maybe Voidcaller or Mal'Ganis?)

Then again, if the list had nothing that looked like a mistake I'd also find this suspicious. The boomsday buffs obviously had a mistake or two in retrospect.

I mean, I guess you could baleful banker if you draw them early and hope you dont draw them next turn then play Galaxy/Jepetto

Wait, hold on, with baleful banker we can dump the faceless manipulators and the LPG/Jepetto.

Augmented Elek, Sorc Apprentice, Banker, Banker, there's five sorc apprentices in your deck now.

Then just draw four Sorc Appentices, Tony, and Thaurissian those. 6+1+1+1+1.

That sounds a lot more reliable.

Even better, draw Tony off of Jepetto or Luna Pocket and get the Thaurissan proc

Well, sure, but this is starting to sound pretty meme status.

Play LPG with Tony or 2x Faceless or 1x faceless and 2x sorc apprentice in your deck.

Get all five combo pieces into hand.

Play Thaurissan

Then kill your opponent

Like...jfc is that actually easier than Mech'a'thun? Mech'a'thun you just need thaurissan to discount a the second half of Ray of Frost, snap freeze, and Mech'a'thun. (And then empty your hand; I guess emptying your hand might suck if Research Project is the last card in your deck).

Thaurissan...might enable mech'a'thun warlock or power up malygos druid? I'm not expecting whole new archetypes from it, honestly.
Doesn't need to be. That is legitimately the best card they've ever made.

I dunno about that; I have 11 wild decks build right now, and I think I have Thaurissan in...none of them.

Looking at wild, he is the 5th most used neutral card in wild, though. He goes into like...combo decks, and Reno decks with high curves. Which...ok, yeah, Highlander decks running 10 drops like N'Zoth are a legit use case. Highlander Mage and Highlander Hunter probably both slam Thaurissan, and maybe N'Zoth decks in general do.

Maybe he enables an Archmage Antonidas deck in standard? Although...wait, are there any spells left in standard that copy Sorc Apprentice? Cause I don't think 2x Faceless Manipulator will be enough with just one Thaurissan tick.

Khartut Defender seems pretty good with Nzoth.

It is. Khartut Defender single-handedly revived N'zoth in multiple classes in wild, possibly the best minion they've ever printed for N'zoth. I'm running that combo right now in wild Reno Even Paladin, and it's Even Paladin, it's still kind-of an aggro deck.

This is supposedly the leaked cards they will be adding. Not claiming this to be true, just throwing out what's been "leaked" in GM Discord, apparently.

Pretty fucking bonkers if true.

Sylv is a huge deal, partially because it powers up N'Zoth, but more specifically because of Nine Lives in Hunter. Spell hunters in wild started running Sylv because of how good Nine Lives is. If Sylv is your only deathrattle, you're guaranteed to steal some minions when you play Zul'Jin. Remember you can tutor her out of your deck with Master's Call if you don't have too many minions.

Curator...I think only a few specific classes are going to want it. Like...highlander Paladin can draw Finley off of it, so that's probably worth. There's no azure drake this time.

Thaurissan...might enable mech'a'thun warlock or power up malygos druid? I'm not expecting whole new archetypes from it, honestly.

Druid got Kun and Astral Comunion. Kun gets slammed into every Quest Druid I'm sure (it's a choose 1 card). It might enable some combos where you Floop the Kun.

Rogue...someone else pointed out to me that Swashburglar is a huge deal because it can mean an active Underbelly Fence on turn 2. Shaku is decent, but not game-changing; you can run 3 blink foxes basically.

Shaman...so evolve shaman is big in wild right now, using Desert Hare+Evolve (on top of the clasic Dopplegangster+Evolve). Mogu Fleshshapper is good enough for wild too. I'm not sure about Thing from Below--not a ton of toteming happening in standard shaman decks right now, but it's a potential evolve target.

Mage...Flamewaker and Babbling Book...they're trying to give mage a power boost obviously.

Warlock...Renounce Darkness and Imp Gang Boss. Renounce is meme. Imp Gang Boss is a good stand-alone card, but ehhh, standard zoo is super taxed for deck space right now. It wants to run a magic carpet package AND a diseased vulture package AND a lackey package; what do you even cut for Imp Gang Boss?

Priest...Lightbomb is a huge deal obviously; probably makes control priest a real thing. (Voljin is a very strong removal card too).

Warrior...man, I know Bloodhoof Brave was good before, but Warrior's 4 drop slot is super stacked. Restless Mummy, Militia Commander, Kor'kron elite in aggro decks, Omega Devastator in control decks, Wrenchcalibur in bomb decks. Bloodhoof Brave used to be good but it may or may not end up getting cut from most warrior lists. Varian...I have a deck I'd test him in. He does need a pretty specific kind of deck, though.

Hunter...Call of the Wild sounds scary with Zuljin. Lock and Load might be a real thing now thanks to cheap twinspells like Rapid Fire, but I'm skeptical.

Paladin...Mysterious Challenger and Avenge...these sound like a big deal, but secret pally is so out of the meta in both Standard and Wild that honestly these might not be that scary. Divine Favour isn't coming back, so if you draw a bunch of secrets and empty your hand on turn 4, you're probably out of cards for the rest of the game.

So...I saw a decklist for Wild Even Paladin, including Arfus and Nzoth. Looked ridiculous, I tried it, and proceeded to win a lot.

Was copying off of this list:

https://hearthstone-decks.net/even-reno-paladin-204-legend-duncansmith_hs/

Didn't have some cards, though, (Val'anyr, Skulking Geist, Enter the Coliseum, and Sir Finley of the Sands) so I made some replacements (Murloc Knight, Lightfused Stegodon, Justicar Trueheart, Avenging Wrath).

Deck is pretty great. Zephrys tends to just auto-win games. And the deck still wins a fair bit without Zephrys; it plays some midrange minions, hits face, and has some silence and shrink cards if the opponent tries to put up a big taunt.

Arfus hasn't exactly been flooring me, but I guess it's there for N'Zoth.

So...in wild meta reports, Jade Druid usually beats Secret Mage; decided to see if that was true in this tavern brawl and kind-of concluding that no.

Oaken Summons into Vargoth is kind-of a big deal, you don't get DK Malf, and you don't get Branching Paths. That's a lot of armourgain that you're not getting. (And replacing 2x Ultimate Infestation with 2x Overflow is also a step down). I even teched in Chief Inspector to try to help with the matchup; it didn't.

(Jade Druid is...fine, but Secret Mage is not scared of Spreading Plague or starfall or poison seeds, which are the main remaining power cards).

Tavern Brawl this week is a new format.

It's basically MtG's Pauper (only commons and rares).

I'm actually quite enjoying it.

First pass, obviously there's a bunch of wild decks you can bring in almost wholesale. Secret mage. Mech hunter. Mech Handbuff Divine Favour Paladin. Basically a big pile of aggro, all of these will get you wins.

But I started wondering if there were slower slightly more anti-aggro decks, and there are!

First one I found was Murloc Shaman. You might be thinking "isn't that an aggro deck?" But in a format with no death knights or anything like that, Underbelly Angler is basically like a death knight, generates so many cards, and a lot of decks aren't really equipped to handle the amount of stats you can get out of Everyfin is Awesome.

Played that for a while, much more success, but ran into a dragon priest and lost, so...

tried that for a while. I totally didn't realize that Duskbreaker was a rare. (Only had one, but screw it, 100 dust, still relevant in wild). Also Priest has a lot of bullshit cards, like potion of madness, Kabal Talonpriest, Northshire Cleric, Power Word Shield, Drakonid Operative....

So uh, this happened:

https://tinyurl.com/y25ryluf

And Blizzard in particular seems to have given some rather poor advice to Seiko:

Prior to the conflicting events, Seiko asked Blizzard if his Grandmasters matches could be rescheduled so they wouldn't overlap: "I asked them to switch the time [I would be playing at] and if I can try play both if the schedule is not changeable. (...) Of course I asked them. I felt like it would be rude if I didn't."

The schedule couldn't be changed, but Blizzard did respond to his request about playing in both Hearthstone Grandmasters - the flagship of competitive Hearthstone - and the Auto Chess qualifier at the same time. According to Seiko, Blizzard's response was: "Sounds challenging but if anyone could do it, it's probably someone like yourself," which sounds like the Hearthstone Esports team gave Seiko a green light for playing in both tournaments at the same time. They at least didn't tell him it was forbidden.

Given that they seem to have given Seiko permission, I don't think they can punish Seiko for this. However, I really hope they change their policy on this.

By the way, this is a shout out to Elizabeth Warren for not using any of the ugly identity politics attacks Hillary used against Bernie. It's good to see a candidate willing to stand on her own ideas who trusts the voters to decide based on ideas.

I mean, bit of a different situation, where Bernie and Warren are usually acting as more of a tag team in the debates, since they share most of the same policies, and most of their opponents are attacking their shared policies. (OK, they sometimes get backup from Tulsi Gabbard, Bill De Blazio, or Marianne Williamson, but that's three candidates that didn't make the stage tonight).

We'll see what happens if we get down to the point where it's them as an obvious top two. Although...honestly whoever wins probably just picks the other as their VP is my expectation. Bernie literally wanted Warren to run in 2016 and only ran when she did not. Warren has been backing Bernie up a lot, coming to internet brodcast town halls he organized in 2017. I don't really see either of them as likely to attack the other. They just don't have many points of disagreement.
