Games are an extremely cost-effective piece of media. If you buy a full price, $60 game and it lasts you 40 hours, that's...really really good. And they've been $60 for over a decade, despite issues like inflation and rising development costs that have affected basically every other industry. I'll never begrudge someone for wanting to buy stuff cheap (literally everyone wants to), but people's notions of what games 'deserve' to cost have gotten very skewed. Being able to get a quality AAA title for like $15 on a Steam sale is absurd when you look at how much games cost to make.

Definitely not true. There are Steam fanboys and any competition is obviously seen as a personal attack, not better for the industry. We're still living in console wars. There are tons of people who would love if Nintendo and Xbox ceased to exist too. It's pure childish brand war.

This is the bigger factor though I think. Gamers HATE the notion that developers are motivated by money. The marketing all their lives said that developers make games for the love of GAMERS. Any peek into the actual business side of things makes them go nuts. It's like Santa Claus isn't real.

So there's paying for exclusivity directly, which Epic has done a few times, but the much more common thing is that a dev willingly stays off Steam because the revenue cut is too high. That still ends up being "exclusive" to Epic, but without direct action by Epic. Gamers are still furious at that, despite they themselves enforcing a culture of "wait until it's 75% off".

Developers are reacting to frugality and lack of respect from gamers, and Epic is simply giving devs what they want.

It's fun to think about it as a war or Epic as some EA style boogeyman, but at the end of the day, gamers know this is about their own behavior and actions. That's why it's so infuriating. They are being asked to change their own behavior.

Three Houses doesn't look amazing but it looks a lot better than it did before the direct. Fire Emblem is never going to be as good as it was in the Tellius phase, or even the GBA phase, but I've come to terms with that a while back. Just have to take it for what it is.

Two actual complaints I have about Hero:

-DQV Hero really should've been an alt, I'm pretty sure he's the most popular Dragon Quest MC in Japan outside of Erdrick so it sucks that he didn't get in regardless
-DQ11 guy sucks as a default, his design isn't good. It really should've been Erdrick considering he's the archetypal Hero of the series, and it's obvious that 11 only got the default status to advertise DQ11 Switch

These aren't huge complaints though, overall Hero is looking really good

Anyway, I'd like to thank everyone for their advice and telling me to play Persona. It's probably the game series B8 recommended that I've enjoyed the most.

It was a fun topic series to follow! And hey, you're not even done yet. You still have to show us your reactions to Persona 4 Arena. And Ultimax. And Dancing All Night. And the anime series (both of them). And Persona Q. And the Persona 3 movies.

Atlus did a good job at milking P4 dry in the wait between it and P5.

I have to say, I really like Adachi. I was neutral about him before, but his crazy misogyny and motiveless evil really works. In particular, doing all of this because he just wanted to have some fun and excitement really fits with the fog motif, the small town setting makes more sense, and everything really comes together because of this twist. It reminds me of P3 as well, where Nox (or Nyx? Don't remember) gets called because people are just so bored and want something to change and happen.

Golden, the P4 Anime, and Arena Ultimax all expand on Adachi's character in some fun ways. What's also fun is that Adachi and the P4 Protagonist share the same voice actor in the game, which doesn't matter much when all the protagonist speaks are Persona names, but gets silly in the anime when Johnny Yong Bosch is accusing Johnny Yong Bosch of murder.

I really liked Barbara's, the comic storytelling was so well done.

This one hit home as well because it invoked a lot of nostalgia in me. There was this old Goosebumps superhero PC game back in the 90s that had an extremely, extremely similar visual art style and gameplay to the section in Edith Finch, to the point where I think the dev was drawing from that game when creating the section.

I actually think the mobile game is slightly more fair - the reduced LP means that you don't *need* BS combos to get ahead and stay ahead, as a few more 'normal' monsters can get the job done just as quickly

I don't mind the silly combos too much, but cards with 4-5 effects each is dumb. Something's wrong when I have to squint to read a card. Especially when my opponent plays a bunch I've never seen before and I have to spend a few minutes in the middle of the duel reading them.
