Former Tory MP Ann Widdecombe was recently elected as an MEP for the Brexit Party

Ann Widdecombe says she does not regret her comments about sexuality, which have led to some of her theatre appearances being cancelled.

Venues in Greater Manchester, Devon and Surrey have axed tour dates after the Brexit Party MEP suggested science could "produce an answer" to being gay.

She blamed a "liberal tyranny" for the backlash and said theatres refusing to host shows were "denying free speech".

Miss Widdecombe's critics have accused her of waging an "anti-LGBT campaign".

"I'm disappointed that the people who bought the tickets are now finding that they can't have that fun after all," she told the BBC.

"This is now the grip that I call the liberal tyranny and I think we have got to fight it."

The Penlee Open Air Theatre in Penzance, the Electric Theatre in Guildford and the Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe have cancelled bookings for the one-woman show Strictly Ann: An Evening With Ann Widdecombe because of her comments in a Sky News interview.

David Hutchinson, who runs the Landmark Theatre, said he was "absolutely disgusted" by her remarks.

Theatres including Altrincham's Garrick said the show had been cancelled due to "unforeseeable events".

Exminster Women's Institute has cancelled a talk scheduled for later this month "without prejudice" to "protect our members from any bad publicity". Miss Widdecombe, 71, made the comments when she was asked about views she had previously aired concerning gay conversion therapy.

She told the BBC she was "hijacked" when questioned about her views on sexuality, after agreeing to speak about winning a seat in May's European elections.

The MEP said she stood by her comments, but they had been "distorted" on social media

"This is the downside of social media because something is said, it's immediately distorted and that distortion spreads like wildfire," she said.

"One or two people have had the grace to come back to me and say 'yes, we have now watched the interview and we apologise - we didn't realise that's all it was'."

Miss Widdecombe added that she had no intention of using the one-woman shows as a platform for her views on sexuality.

Other theatres were "standing their ground" and new dates were being added to the tour, she said.

I don't get how her shows being canceled is a violation of free speech

Yeah if she was arrested I'd see her point, but theatres can allow or deny anyone they want...

Tifa and it's not just the tits.

Tifa actually has a personality. She has hopes and dreams. She gets annoyed, joins a terrorist cell, murders people, has slapfights, has sex, makes mistakes.

She also works out and has learned to fight.

Aeries..... is what exactly? Smiles and is polite? Prays a lot?

I've played FFVII I think 3 times and aside from the obvious I can't remember anything about Aeries other than the obvious and the fact she sells flowers. Oh and that she forced cloud to wear womens clothes (which I am sure will be out of the remake)

I remember tons of things Tifa did..

Like that time Cloud goes into a coma and is sei-conious in a wheelchair, slowly rolling his head back and Tifa kneels down and puts her head in his lap and bobs it up and down which due to the lego brick graphics makes it look like she is performing oral sex on him

To be fair, I'm sure there would be at least a few people who would understand that and go "Well Allah just means God," but your point still stands that it would likely be vandalized pretty quickly.

Even ignoring the vandalizing, my point is people would be against it.

Going "Well Jews and Muslims exist too" when there are only 8 million jews and muslims in the US but 300 million Christians, a lot of whom would hate promoting Islam.. is a lazy counter-point to this.

It's bad for the line between church and state to be blured. It's a waste of time and money to put it on governent vehicles and it sends totally the wrong message for society.

"We trust in things without proof" is the last thing you want the people in charge of judging whether or not you get arrested or your home burns down to display proudly. And it's alarming if a lot of religious people don't agree.

And what do you think would happen if "In Allah we trust" was put on cop cars and fire trucks?

Would be 12 hours before someone set fire to one.

Allah is just a generic Arabic word meaning god used by every Arabic person regardless of which faith they follow. Americans generally speak English, so God is the correct word to use here. Jews call God "Adonai" or "Elohim" in the Hebrew language, but you don't usually hear them say it or see them write it when speaking of God in English.

You intentionally just dodged my point.

If "In Allah we trust" was proposed to be put on police cars, no one would go "Well Allah just means God" people (and mainly the same people who want In "God We trust" put on) would be livid.

You're being intellectually dishonest when you pretend otherwise. Vocal Christians in America are not okay with spreading the Islamic faith, let alone the government spreading Islamic faith.

This evidenced everytime schools do work or homework that involves reading te Qu'ran and people flip out

After much controversy, the Bakersfield, Calif., City Council on Wednesday approved a proposal to add In God We Trust decals to both police and fire vehicles.

I love the motto, said Councilmember Jacquie Sullivan, according to The Bakersfield Californian. Its meaningful. Its powerful. Those words are intended to encourage.

Sullivans non-profit organization, In God We Trust America, has offered to pay for the decals.

U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy, who represents Bakersfield, had said he fully supported the decals.

Displaying In God We Trust the official motto of the United States on Bakersfield Police Department cars is a testament to each officers commitment to upholding the rule of law and defending the City of Bakersfield and its residents, he said in a statement to The Californian

Lawyers for the American Civil Liberties Union showed up at the city council meeting to oppose the proposal, calling it bad public policy.

Unlike God, police officers are fallible, ACLU lawyer Jordan Wells said. Their conduct should be scrutinized by the public, and when they overstep their authority, we must insist on accountability.

One council member, Andrae Gonzales, said he is Christian but voted against the decals.

The God I believe in is much bigger than a bumper sticker, he said.

City council members in nearby Delano approved a proposal last month to add In God We Trust to police vehicles. The city of Shafter, which borders Bakersfield, is expected to vote on a similar proposal later this month.

Also, Shepard is a cyborg as of ME2, so that could give him an edge.

Tbqh, I think its a three way toss up between Miranda, shep, and Jack, with the winner being based on other circumstances surrounding the fight.

Jack is a powerful biotic and if it's ME2 Jack she's pretty ruthless

But again physically? I don't think she matches up to James or Garrus or Thane or Shepard or Miranda or Jacob or Liam or Ashley.

She doesn't even have combat training, just biotic skill. Take that away and you just have a loudmouth girl.

Yeah, but James has to actually hit Samara. This hypothetical scenario isn't just going to have every character line-up and see who can take a punch without flinching, right? Even if Asari are physically not as strong, Samara has spent multiple human lifetimes fighting. Even if the majority of the time she can just rely on biotics or weapons, but I think it's pretty reasonable to assume she knows how to get her hands dirty if the need arises.

I don't think Samara could take James.

Even Kasumi who is demonstrated to be nippy and evasive is not shown to be unable to be hit. I don't get how Samara would just dodge James' punches.

Even if she dodged a couple she wouldn't be able to take James down before James pounded her in the face.

Cora has the same implant the Ryder twins do, so I can see that.

Krogan are mostly bone, which is why they're so damn hard to kill. But if you shoot them in their exposed face, they go down easy.

Realistically speaking, an expert marksman would probsbly be a bigger threat to them than a biotic.

So the person above who said garrus is actually somewhat correct in a sense.

You're missing the forest for the trees

We're talking about a fistfight

No weapons, no biotics. Just beating the crap out of each other

Krogan are out because they would just win.

Ignore biotics, ignore guns. Who is the strongest?

The case for Miranda is that she has been genetically engineered to be a super human

Cora in andromeda is actually more formidable than Jack because of her combat skills and being a vanguard basically, but Jack has more raw biotic strength

Nah Cora has spent years training as a biotic.

And despite being among the most powerful and successful human biotics in the universe, she was only just on par with the bare minimum requirements to be an Asari Commando.

Which is still impressive but she dedicated her life to Biotic skill, in a fistfight she'd be KOed by the likes of James or Thane who just have skill or horsepower.

Her in the books the only reason she's alive at all is because she got an AI shoved in her brain that kept saving her every time she got her ass kicked, which was a lot.

GeneralKenobi85 posted...

I also meant in a brawl. Why would Samara be at any disadvantage? Her line of work requires her to be a fighter. I think we can assume she's learned how to fight in hand-to-hand combat after doing such a dangerous job for so long.

Because she's an Asari.

Asari are pretty weak physically, their immense power comes from their unmatched bioltics and political/sexual savvy.

They can manipulate you and throw you across the room with blue wibbly wobbly energy. But they are physically putty in the hands of Turians or Humans.

This is demonstrated repeatedly throughout the series. Shepard even has an entire comedy bit where she scolds an Asari for their race being so shit at actual fighting.

No disrespect intended but going "Samara is the strongest because she is tough for an Asari" is like saying "Thug Rose is the strongest on Earth because she's tough for a girl."

Put Rose Namajunas in a fight against Daniel Cormier and see what happens

Put Samara in a fist fight against James and you'll have youself a 2 hit match. James hits Samara and Samara hits the floor.

In a biotic fight yes

But for the sake of argument as I said in the OP. this is a brawl

No weapons, no biotics, No Krogan, Just fist and fangs until only one person can stand.

Samara would be crucified under those conditions. So would Kasumi and Kaidan and Cora and all the Asari.

Thane would do well, Garrus too, James, Shepard, Ashley are all in the discussion.

Thane's a good guess actually since we actually see his hand to hand skill.

Zaeed I think would suck. he's entirely dependant on gadgets and gizmos and is an old fuck. In a fightfight I think he would be creamed.

I think it's safe to say Grunt is the storylinewise strongest character. Since Krogan are like 8 feet tall, 750 pounds and hard as rocks, and that's the women. And out of the krogan Grunt is a super-soldier and Drack is over 1,000 years old.

So it goes

#1. Grunt
#2. Wrex
#3. Drack

In terms of power

But not counting the Krogan who is #1? (or #4?)

Isn't it Miranda? She's been gentically enhanced and never shuts up about how much it sucks being physically and mentally superior to everyone. With innate intelligence, unstoppable immune system and perfect genes.

LcPE4Ja

Mass Effect also establishes that they (at least humans) pump their marines with chems and genetic shit that makes them stronger and faster. Which pretty much evens out men and women. Turians also have men vs women fist fights.

So the gender power gap isn't what it used to be. It's safe to assume Miranda got that same treatment and more if she is "perfect"

But we never see them fist-fighting. Only using guns and biotics (which is fair). So how physically strong are your goons?

So if all the Mass Effect non-krogan members got into a bar fight, with no biotics or weapons, who would win?

What can she bench? Does Tali have pubic hair?

Could Miranda punch out James? Because that feels like anime territory

well that article certainly isn't biased

I don't see the bias in the article...

The things you don't see yet are in plain view could fill an entire encyclopedia series.

Then they should be easy to point out

Yet you can't do it and instead are acting exactly 100% like how someone with no point would act.

Curious

Because it's short for "Pocket Monsters"

Poke-Mon

The idea came from two Japanese busisnessmen who were on holiday in Jamaica. They were discussing potential business ventures and didn't know how to proceed when suddenly some friendly Jamaican card players called out to them and say "Hey! Do'ya wanna play some poker man!?"

And it was born

I'm enlisting, but she has a point on the macro scale. It's unfair to individuals, though.

It looks like she traveled to more than 1/3 before she was 18. All self-funded, I'm sure, but I'm skeptical.

No before she was 18 it was free. She piggybacked on her parents travel agency plans.

And while that helped it's really not the big deal it seems like.

Traveling to places like Canada and France and Japan is easy mode.

Traveling to places like North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, Ghana etc. Dealing with the paper work. Thats where it gets hard.

You trying to undermine the accomplshment by pretending to be too unintelligent to understand it is a weird play

The tariff on all goods by land, sea, and air from Mexico will hike to 10 percent on July 1 -- and potentially increase substantially from there.

"If Mexico still has not taken action to dramatically reduce or eliminate the number of illegal aliens crossing its territory into the United States, Tariffs will be increased to 15 percent on August 1, 2019, to 20 percent on September 1, 2019, and to 25 percent on October 1, 2019," Trump said in a statement released later by the White House on Thursday. "Tariffs will permanently remain at the 25 percent level unless and until Mexico substantially stops the illegal inflow of aliens coming through its territory."

The statement added: "Thousands of innocent lives are taken every year as a result of this lawless chaos. It must end NOW! ... Mexicos passive cooperation in allowing this mass incursion constitutes an emergency and extraordinary threat to the national security and economy of the United States."

Specifically, White House sources told Fox News that Mexico would need to step up security efforts on the border, target transnational smugglers, crack down on illicit bus lines and align with the U.S. on a workable asylum policy. Mexico could use certain so-called choke points on the southern border to curb illegal migration sharply, according to the sources.

Arrests along the southern border have skyrocketed in recent months, with border agents making more than 100,000 arrests or denials of entry in March, a 12-year high. Immigration courts that process asylum claims currently have faced a backlog of more than 800,000 cases and asylum applicants increasingly have been staying in the U.S. even after their claims for asylum have been denied.

More than 4,000 individuals have been apprehended at the border with children who are not their own in recent months, administration officials tell Fox News.

And, Customs and Border Protection said it apprehended or turned away over 109,000 migrants attempting to cross the border in April, the second month in a row the number has topped 100,000.

In a dramatic moment, more than 1,000 illegal immigrants were apprehended by border agents near the U.S.-Mexico border last week -- the largest ever group of migrants ever apprehended at a single time, sources told Fox News. The group of 1,036 illegal immigrants found in the El Paso sector included migrants from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, according to sources.

The Trump administration has heavily focused on asylum law reforms, making the current reported Mexican overtures in that area particularly important. Asylum law, conservatives point out, is intended to shield individuals from near-certain death or persecution on account of limited factors like religious or political affiliation not poor living conditions and economic despair.

Last year, the Justice Department eliminated gang violence and domestic abuse as a possible justification for seeking asylum.

Most asylum applicants are ultimately rejected for having an insufficient or unfounded personalized fear of persecution, following a full hearing of their case before an asylum officer or an immigration judge.

With just days to go until the Trump administration is set to impose punishing tariffs on Mexico unless the country halts the unprecedented flow of illegal immigrants across the southern border, numerous signs that Mexico would capitulate emerged Thursday -- but it remained unclear Friday morning whether their efforts would satisfy the White House.

Reports in the evening indicated that Mexico's negotiators with Washington have offered to immediately deploy 6,000 National Guard troops to the border with Guatemala. Additionally, Mexico has reportedly agreed to a major overhaul of reasonable asylum protocols, which would require asylum applicants to seek permanent refuge in the first country they arrive in after fleeing their home countries.

For virtually all Central American migrants, that country would not be the United States. The Trump administration has already begun requiring asylum applicants to wait in Mexico while their claims are processed, saying too many applicants were using the system fraudulently to escape into the country. Last month, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals denied a request to stop that practice temporarily.

However, two administration officials tell Fox News that while talks have been going well with Mexico, and that Mexico is making some fresh proposals, there is not yet a deal that U.S. officials are sure to imminently accept.

Also on Thursday, Mexico's financial intelligence agency announced it had frozen the bank accounts of 26 people who it claimed "have presumably participated in migrant smuggling and the organization of illegal migrant caravans."

The agency said it had detected money transfers from central Mexico to six Mexican border cities presumably related to the caravans.

Mexican President Andrs Manuel Lpez Obrador insisted on Thursday that the Mexican government does not "act against anybody to please any foreign government."

Meanwhile, some 200 Mexican military police, immigration agents and federal police blocked the advance of about 1,000 Central American migrants who were walking north along a southern Mexico highway on Wednesday, once again showing a tougher new stance on attempts to use the country as a stepping-stone to the U.S.

The group of migrants, including many women and children, set out early from Ciudad Hidalgo at the Mexico-Guatemala border and was headed for Tapachula, the principal city in the region. State and local police accompanied the caravan.

The officials blocked the highway near the community of Metapa, about 11 miles from Tapachula.

Unarmed agents wrestled some migrants who resisted to the ground, but the vast majority complied and boarded buses or immigration agency vans. Some migrants fainted and fell to the ground. One young man who collapsed was taken for medical attention.

That afternoon, in Mexico City, police detained Irineo Mujica, the head of migrant aide group Pueblo Sin Fronteras, and Cristobal Sanchez, a migrant activist.

Vice President Mike Pence, monitoring the talks from his travels in Pennsylvania, said the U.S. was "encouraged" by Mexico's latest proposals but, so far, tariffs still were set to take effect Monday.

Trump, in announcing the tariffs last week, promised that they would swiftly increase if no action was taken. The president declared Wednesday evening that "not nearly enough" progress was being made in last-minute negotiations with Mexico.

"On June 10th, the United States will impose a 5% Tariff on all goods coming into our Country from Mexico, until such time as illegal migrants coming through Mexico, and into our Country, STOP," Trump said on May 30. "The Tariff will gradually increase until the Illegal Immigration problem is remedied, ... ..at which time the Tariffs will be removed. Details from the White House to follow."
