My only complaint so far are how many fucking cutscenes there are, but I feel like a majority of the game is gonna be wide open expanse without any human contact for miles and miles. I really like the mood of the game so far.

The characters are cheesy and the dialogue is a bit cheap, but I'm really digging Death Stranding so far.

From what I understand, 4 is the worst one in the series. I watched my friend play it, and the story was total ass. They introduce a new threat after the third game and they look really bland.

If it helps at all, Gears 5 is on Game Pass too, and my friend likes that much better than 4. Dude's been playing since the original games, and even though it doesn't hit the same notes for him playing the original trilogy as a teenager, he still enjoyed Gears 5 a lot. Except the multiplayer, lmao

To respond to your post here, though, your initial point wasn't tied to TC's posting history. It was an obtuse comment meant to troll. If your primary concern was TC's credibility, you probably would have brought it up in your first post. Instead you started with "isolation is good" in response to a situation where it was applied incorrectly to the detriment of an autistic person, and shifted your stance to "people are using this article to attack isolation treatment in the same way that PETA misrepresents facts to attack pet-owners and farmers and what have you". Like PETA making a fake sheep carcass to protest sheep shearing is at all comparable to a medical professional being an incompetent cockhead and locking someone away when other forms of treatment would have been much better.

You've only maintained that it's everyone else being shitty since the start of the thread, and further derailed the topic by doubling down on every other comment. There's no respect coming from you, so why bother treating your stance with any respect?

Okay, but you came into this topic swinging with "isolation rooms are occasionally necessary" in response to "this autistic person was held in an isolation room against their will until they calmed down, with their behavior being exacerbated by the conditions for 9 hours, instead of being treated in a way that would have helped them". I liked the gritty, down to earth drama much more than I liked the Marvel-lite dogshit with a coat of "drama" slathered on right afterwards.

Man of Steel balanced bland character drama with these phony, arthouse-inspired flashbacks of Superman as a kid, shot out of focus and with some shitty faux-intelligent narration about what it means to be a hero. There were only a couple of them, but they were my least favourite parts of the movie. Sure, the last half hour of the movie is a pointless fight scene, and I hate what they did with the ending, but it was so much more insulting that they went for some shitty "artsy" shots of Superman as a kid wearing a cape with a dog while Kevin Costner or whatever waxes philosophical on what it means to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. If anything about Man of Steel makes me treat it like a piece of shit, it's these smug, phony flashback scenes.

All of that stands out so much worse now that DC has committed to a fully down to earth drama movie. Arthur Fleck is truly nothing special, just some loser living in a shitty neighbourhood, whose circumstances lead him to commit extremely horrific acts of violence. The movie is such a breath of fresh air, and it feels so good to see a comic book movie branch out of straight action-fantasy and tackle other genres like drama. It feels so good to see a comic book property be adapted into a movie that actually feels like a cohesive movie, not another punchy action blockbuster.

That's always been DC's strong point - Marvel makes solidly fun and goofy adventures, and DC applies their franchises across a variety of different formulas to see what's up. They struck gold with their animated movies in the late 00's for this reason, even with the DCAU's own shortcomings over the years.

With all of that being said, though - I didn't like Joker as much as I was hoping. My main issue is that it's a bit long, by the time the movie ended I was just glad to leave. Another issue is more personal - my town only screened the movie at the start of November, so I was well and truly sick of all the advertisements by then and I just kinda stopped caring about Joker as much. It's my favorite DC movie in years, and I hope DC take more chances like this in the future, but it dragged in places and it felt a bit too long by the end. There are some scenes in the movie that serve to further paint the world Arthur lives in and further develop his character - including scenes I liked, like the fridge scene - that probably could have been cut for time. As far as R rated comic book movies go, I would still rank Logan over Joker.

But I love what Joker is. It has its own shortcomings as a movie, but this is exactly the sort of experimental shit DC should have been doing from the start. They've been half-assing it since Man of Steel, and their properties went further down the shitter until Justice League. It could be argued that their blockbusters have been on a better trajectory for a while, but I haven't seen a DC movie since Justice League and even with their more positive reception, I just haven't been interested.

Joker is the first DC movie in a while that's been on my radar, because it's a bold experiment to see if DC can apply their superhero properties to unconventional genres. It actually looks and feels like a tangible fucking movie. I've always liked DC for trying to branch out into new and interesting things, and I'm happy to see movies like Joker coming out. It's not an excellent movie - again, it just ran for a bit too long imo - but it's a step in the right direction and it's my favorite DC movie since 2013.

I liked her a lot in season 7. Past that point, she just kinda slides into irrelevance. I don't really mind her until the end of series 9, but the Mark of the Crow episode just kinda derails the season.

Also RE: RTD Vs. Moffat, the only Moffat season I like more than most RTD seasons is series 7. It was inconsistent, but it was Matt Smith at the top of his game and the highs were pretty fucking high. Otherwise I prefer the more down to earth feel of RTD's run.

Needless to say, there will be spoilers in this thread. Don't read if you're planning to watch Modern Who any time soon.

Let's compile a list:

Rose Tyler: sucked into an alternate dimension against her will. Eventually given a happy ending, with a half-human clone from the Doctor's severed hand.

Martha: left of her own volition, joined UNIT. Ended up getting married to Mickey.

Donna: Brain wiped against her will. Eventually finds a niche in real life and gets married, but she loses the best year of her life and can never remember it.

At least these three had some semblance of a happy ending eventually, but 2/3rds of them still suffered some traumatic event as a result of their stay on the TARDIS.

Amy: killed by a Weeping Angel. Has her baby melt into goo in her hands because the real one was stolen to be trained into an assassin.

Rory: killed by a Weeping Angel. Turns into an Auton after dying 4 times in a row and getting deleted from reality.

Clara: gets killed by her own stupidity, the Doctor makes a hard heel turn to get her back against her wishes.

Bill: gets turned into a Mondasian Cyberman, with a brief "my body is dead by my soul is free" moment at the end of her penultimate episode.

Nardole: Has a heroic moment after being mistreated for an entire season.

See, all these companions have these big, grand exits that involve the very core of their being getting changed through some great trauma. Nardole probably had the least traumatic exit, and even then he got this overblown heroic send-off at the end of his run. It's like, why can't things just come to an end naturally? Why do Doctor Who companions have to like barely survive being shot into a nearby star, or end up getting completely fucked up to "properly send them off", when the older companions could basically just be dropped off somewhere to live their own lives at the end?

I get that it's due to this unspoken rule of drama, but considering that the older series had casual enough departures, it would be nice to see Modern Who take a page out of their book and just have another companion hop off the TARDIS at some point. Martha hopped off because she wasn't vibing with the Doctor, and she ended up being one of the better recurring characters.

I hope when Yaz, Ryan and Graham eventually step away, they have some say in the matter and it's not because "travelling with the Doctor is dangerous, ooh spooky! you could fall into a black hole or make a heroic sacrifice to justify your life at the end!" Just have one of them decide they've had their fill, or have them find happiness beyond their wildest dreams off-world and decide to stay to pursue that. At this point, forcing them down the same "epic dramatic conclusion" path is like making a link of Doctor Who sausages - it looks and tastes just like the last one, it's the same runoff bits getting jammed into the same casing.

And to end off, there are the more casual TARDIS crew:

Jack Harkness: lives to be 2 billion years old because the Doctor removes him from time and he couldn't die. Spends his last billion years and a half as a giant floating head.

Adam: I think his name's Adam? He gets a brain modification on a space station so the Doctor boots him off back at home.

River Song: doesn't leave the TARDIS to die, because her death was fortold in earlier seasons. She still spends a lot of her screentime having Important Doctory Stuff happening to her, but W/E.

I'd rather see more shit like Adam, frankly. Just boot someone off the TARDIS, or let them leave casually. At least for once, don't make a massive fucking event out of it.
