I watched I think through Goldfinger last year and didnt continue on past that. I always want to, but I can never keep the momentum and the desire to continue watching those style movies for too long at a time.

I just figure that if I don't watch them all now, I'm never gonna watch any more of them lol.

First of all, I'd like to make a slight revision to my list so far: After further thought, I've realized that I like Goldfinger and Thunderball pretty much equally, and have decided to have the list reflect this by putting them both as tied for their positions.

It was ok. It did have some cool moments, but overall, it just didn't really hook me very much. Plus the racial stereotypes were through the roof in this one, even for a Bond film, and they were there from beginning to end, making it kinda hard to overlook.

Also; I get why he had Yellowface on; it makes sense plot wise, he's a spy, he needs to look like the people he's infiltrating, sure. I get it. It's no Breakfast At Tiffany's. But man, it still made me uncomfortable, lol.

I did like the general evil plot with the whole trying to start a war between Russia and the US by fucking with their spacecraft, that was a cool idea. It suffered though from not having a central, seen villain from beginning to end like we did with the past 2 films. Yes, we got the Blofeld reveal towards the end, and I did enjoy that, but the other like, 75% of the film we were left with just random henchmen essentially as the antagonists, and it made it kinda dull for me.

Really, what kept this from being my least favorite so far was the last 20-ish minutes. The whole ending once Bond's inside the crater was pretty damn cool and I enjoyed it a lot. The rest of the movie though was pretty lackluster to me.

Next up, looks like we're getting a break from Connery and getting some George Lazenby in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. It'll be my first non-Connery Bond film, so I'm intrigued.

I don't know if it helps or not, but honestly they're pretty much equal to me. I just really fucking loved the underwater cinematography of Thunderball. They both had much better villains and evil plots than the first 2.

Thunderball is terrible and has some abhorrent editing as well as Bond being at his rapeyist near the start.

The stupid sped up footage on the boat at the end.

Also in FRWL they wanted the Lector decoding device so I feel you may need to watch it again if you missed that huge plot point lol.

Original Casino Royale is an American Butcherisation. Jimmy Bond my arse.

Oh yeah, completely forgot about the Lector. It was super boring and forgettable a plotpoint, hence me completely forgetting about it. Everything else was pretty good, but that was not a good evil plot IMO.

Fairly sure I've committed some sort of blasphemy here, but I really, really enjoyed Thunderball. Not sure what the hate is for it tbh.

I really liked Largo as a villain, particularly his back and forth with Bond, with them each very much knowing everything about the other, and knowing that the other knows everything about them, but trying to play it off. I liked the inversion of Bond's own tropes, with Fiona not so subtlety referencing Goldfinger, with Pussy Galore's side-switching after fucking Bond, that was a great confrontation. I also really liked that Domino was the one who got to kill Largo. Usually they give the important kills to Bond, so that was a nice touch.

I'm also a sucker for underwater shots. They're super hard to do and pull off, and there's some really beautiful underwater cinematography here, especially for the time. I'd argue it's definitely the prettiest Bond film so far.

The giant underwater fight scene at the end jumped back and forth between being really fucking awesome and really fucking stupid, but that's kinda the tone I've gotten from the Bond films as a whole as of yet, so it fit well tonally IMO.

The only things that I didn't like were the jetpack at the beginning and the weird thing with the back stretcher thing at the health spa, or whatever that was? Both of those looked real dumb tbh, but those were both really early in the movie, nothing else looked nearly as goofy as those things in the rest of the film. Also, the health spa definitely had bond at his rapiest yet, so that wasn't great.

Those things aside though, I thought the film worked really well. I really enjoyed SPECTRE being back in play, this time with a coherent and interesting evil plot. (I honestly couldn't tell you what their plan was in From Russia, With Love other than "Get revenge on Bond!!!... and something else... I think....")

So, yeah. Apparently it's not a popular opinion, but Thunderball's my favorite so far. Still have a fuck ton to go though.

I might try to see if I can get ahold of the original Casino Royale simply for completion's sake, but if not then it looks like You Only Live Twice is up next.

Lots of Bond topics lately it seems. I'm glad more people are enjoying JB movies though. Have fun.

Them bouncing back and forth between Hulu and Netflix is probably a big part of it. Never had enough interest to go out of my way to see them, but since they're all easily accessible at the moment, figured I might as well join in on the fun.

There's definitely been some questionable things so far, but nothing near as bad I was expecting with how everyone always seems to talk about it though. The sketchiest scene so far was the scene with Pussy Galore in the barn.

A friend of mine told me today that Thunderball has some sketchy moments, so we'll see, lol.

Glad you're liking them. Imo you have the best of the series on either end with FRWL/Goldfinger then Casino Royale/Skyfall. The long middle is nothing special, sad to say, though you should see them for cultural reasons. Goldeneye is a good shot in the arm before Craig brings it roaring back.

I'm mostly in it for the villains tbh, I love me some good villains.

I also wanna plow my way to Goldeneye, cause that's the one I really want to see tbh. I wanna see Sean Bean.

Can someone explain to me the deal with the "original"(?) Casino Royale? Is that like, actually considered part of it? It's on the list of James bond films, but I don't see much reference to it.

TC you should watch Thunderball and You Only Live Twice. Those are the best of the Connery era.

THunderball's next on my list. I'm trying to watch as many as I can before Netflix takes them off.

Just finished Goldfinger. It was really good. Best villain so far, best evil plan, and Bond's puns and zingers were a lot better in this one, a lot of them fell flat in the first 2.

There were a couple things I was eh about, like Goldfinger's death looked real silly, but it was the 60s, they did what they could. The scene in the barn with Pussy came off a little.... sketchy. But also, again, it was the 60s.

But it's definitely my favorite of the first 3.

You saw the back of Blofelds head for the first time in FRWL lol. The train is the the best bit, my god that fight scene is amazing.

I did like the fight, but the entirety of them being on the train from begining on the end just felt really, REALLY long.

Even Dr. No had a pretty large number of locale/set changes.

There are a lot of great characters in this franchise. I'm looking forward to your thoughts on each one.

Goldeneye was the first one I watched, and remains my absolute favorite, while Live and Let Die is a close second.

I'm really hype for Goldeneye tbh. That's the one I always heard about growing up.

Just finished From Russia With Love. I enjoyed it. The stuff with the train dragged a bit, but otherwise I felt it was a lot better paced than Dr. No.

Didn't have as memorable a villain, but the multiple ones it did have were all decent, just wish there was more of a central villain than there was.

The Kingsman movies are really good, I enjoyed both of them.

I loved the first one.
Outside of a very few cool moments, the second one left me painfully disappointed.

I enjoyed 2 a lot, it was super goofy and over the top, but I felt like that played in its favor and set it apart from other secret agent sort of films.

I still haven't seen a Bond film. I remember when it was announced that Danny Boyle would be working on the next one and I got super excited. But he dropped out.

Imagine having creative differences with literal Danny Boyle. That's as bad as the MCU dropping Edgar Wright.
Dude probably have more creativity in the tip of his dick than all of those producers and execs on those movies put together.

Edit: The closest I got to watching a Bond film were the Kingsman movies.

You are in for a good time imo, a lot of iconic characters, cool spy tech, and some fantastic villains. I found something enjoyable with each actor overall, and it adds to the experience.

Surprised you haven't seen a 007 movie, it will be cool to follow your progress, i'm a bit of a fan.

I think what I'm most hype for is the villains tbh. I love me a good villain, and I've consistently heard the series has some quality ones.

It looks like at least most of them are on Netflix, so I'm just gonna start slowly plowing through them, lol. Looks like From Russia With Love is up next.

Dr. No wasn't nearly as bad about it as I was expecting, which makes me worry about the next few, considering a friend of mine told me specifically that the Connery films were pretty bad about that stuff.

Wonder what your least favorite is gonna be. People think it's Spectre but Die Another Day is flipping crazy if you asked me.

Daniel Craig is really polarizing, which I find fascinating because he was just as polarizing at the time he was announced.

Are they polarizing? Most of the people I've talked to seemed to like him, guess I haven't really met anyone from the other side.

It's always been intimidating trying to make myself watch any of them before, knowing how fucking many of these movies there are. Have to play a lot of catch up if I'm gonna watch them all.

Before tonight, I'd never seen a Bond film. Started with Dr. No, it was solid; shows its age a bit, but still enjoyed it.

I think I'm gonna try to slowly work my way through the series. Just gonna go by release order I suppose.

I ultimately want to watch Golden Eye, that's the one I always hear about, and I know Sean Bean is in it.

I have like, 18 more films to go before then though. :/
