I feel like this game does it better than FF6. Every character besides Jade (idk what they couldve done with her but they sure love fixating on the fact that she was there during the fall of Dundrasil, and refusing to open up on any other part of her life) that Ive run into so far has had their backstory fleshed out, much more than FFVI did.

Its really the one reason Im okay with this game doing Act 2 the way it is. Since being unable to use certain members makes certain fights more annoying.

There is an NPC that explains why this is to you, in the first town you visit.

Idk if you talk to everyone though, so Ill just say that Mordegon fucking up the world has royally messed with the Zoom travel pathways

So this part of the game, you do have some options of where to go but tbh I think following what the game tells you to do is going to be for the best, experience-wise.

Unfortunately my favorite party members seem to be at the tail-end of this journey.

Just to reiterate what others have said. If you've played the original or DX version then this game offers nothing new apart from a graphical update. There is literally nothing new this version of the game adds outside of the addition of a very basic dungeon creation add-on.

It is a screen for screen port with some nicer graphics. It's even easier than the original because one of the only other updates is slightly smoother movement that ends up meaning you can spam sword attacks a lot quicker and kill most bosses in under 30 seconds.

Actually, it lost the photo minigame, which was replaced with the chamber dungeons... which I have not heard a lot of positive opinions on.
