Okay, so in @Johnbobb's top 5 topic, he suggested a "Save My B8 OC" when I asked him for his top 5 ideas for SMCs. I didn't like the idea of a Save My, as people would have zero investment once their character was out. The idea germinated into a 32-entrant tournament where B8ers vote on each other's original characters, based on who they like. This isn't the "Most Powerful OC" contest, after all.

Each user will be allowed one nomination. Johhbobb is guaranteed a nomination. The following rules apply:
-It must be a wholly original character created by the nominating user.
-This character CAN have been inspired by an existing character, people in your real life, people in your dreams - whatever.
-It may not be a crossover or direct ripoff of a character subject to copyright. This includes but is not limited to gender-bends, alternate timeline selves, and new versions of existing characters.
-It CAN be a character in someone else's universe provided the character is not mentioned in the official work in any way.
-If you don't have a character to nominate, you're free to create one just for this contest.

For example, "check it out, here's my new Spider-Man!!" is not allowed, even if said character is a female not mentioned in any Spider-Man media. A new crime-fighting partner for Spider-Man will work, provided it's not one that already exists and doesn't have anything to do with spiders.

To nominate a character, I'm going to need some propaganda to display in matchups, so people have a basis on which to vote. The following are required:
1. An image. Can be hand-drawn, computer-generated, put together using an online avatar service, made in The Sims like mine (the Create-A-Sim demo is free), whatever suits you. You may not use an image of a real person or Photoshop an existing person (including actors) into your character. This image must be something you created yourself using the tools available to you.
2. An introduction. Have your character, using THEIR voice, introduce themselves in a paragraph. Can include as many details as you want.
3. The basics. Who are they? What is their job? Their age? Their character flaw? Whatever details they're not explaining that we need to know, fill us in. Don't summarize their whole story - who'd want to spoil it? One character flaw is required.

I'd like to have an even playing field, so I ask you don't go to the lengths of adding things like musical themes or entire anthologies that people can read if they want to. This is meant to be a brief synopsis of the character. Characters will NOT be attached to users in the matchup topics - this is about the characters.

Edgeworth getting the amount of votes he did on Luigi means he's High Fodder. Maya's almost as strong as he is, and the Ace Attorney fans will definitely rally behind her. She's still considered one of the top characters from that series, and people who see her and know her will vote for her. Because she's hilarious, fun, and extremely well-developed.

and tbh Maya's even more critical to the original trilogy's story than Edgeworth is. I'm serious.

That's partially why Edgeworth got his own game. People love his character, and wanted to see how he operates from his end. With Maya, there's really not much of a game for a spirit medium, is there?

Yes and yes. Without Maya, the series never becomes what it does. And she's extremely well-liked in the fandom. A lot of people were happy to see her back in Spirit of Justice, myself included. She is NOT Low Fodder.

Not true. She appears as Phoenix's assistant in every case he heads. Case 2 in each of the three games is dedicated to her in some shape or form. She gets a crap ton of development in the other cases, too.

Godot is a one-game character. Maya's been in four, including the most recent.

Yeah, what Mewtwo is saying. David losing MvX was what planted the seed. Culpepper losing Lame Changers was what got Probst to go through with it. He wanted to rig it so his bros could win. Jeff's the one with the faulty logic. And he needs to do away with that garbage mandated fire-making - it was wonderful when it was a tiebreaker, but now? Ugh.

Blazkowicz: Mid Fodder, IDK. Might be swayed. I don't know enough about his series.

Maya: High Fodder. Phoenix and Edgeworth are great at making brackets, so there's a lot of supporters for the Ace Attorney bandwagon. Due to its many ports, it's nearly impossible to have not had a chance to buy the original Ace Attorney trilogy at this point. And Maya is just one of those characters you can't not like. Sure, Edgeworth has never advanced - but look at his draws. Link, Cloud, Luigi, Big Boss when MGS was relevant... I'd say he's potentially Fodder Line himself.

Kerrigan: Mid Fodder. Recognizable, but losing to Missile in 2013 and not making a bracket after that is pretty telling. With Blizzard not really being favored around these parts anymore, I don't think she has a chance in Scoria.

Believe me, I'm planning to collect unemployment even so. I had "good cause" to quit - I was being blackmailed into being an inorganic worker and trapped, and threatened with being fired if that didn't happen.

This really does smell like somebody set up me the bomb and my boss couldn't do anything about it. She HATES this, too.

It's worth noting that I had a lot of respect for the director and deputy director until this week. Now I see how vindictive they actually are.

Are you me from ten years ago?

I worked for the county, dealt with an abusive boss and a couple of corrupt agency directors who protected her for God only knows what reason, and then they fired me when I overreacted to a particularly nasty email.

Sounds about right, except my boss is awesome. It's her two bosses - the Bureau directors - who verbally beat the shit out of me like eighth grade bullies. And then told me I couldn't use sick time to cool off or I'd get fired, which is what precisely caused this problem. I call that "extortion."

I'm definitely in the mix for county employment though, and that would be a 50% raise in pay and still good benefits. The problem is that I've had five interviews for various county positions in the past three months and none of them have been a yes :/

My boss would say yes, probably, and that I left simply because I needed a change. Again, my boss is awesome, and in 20 years my thoughts about this job will be: "Best boss I've ever worked for. Too bad the duties broke me - and her supervisors made it worse."

Grodner is less biased toward getting the winner she wants than Probst is, though.

When her pets lose, she doesn't care as much - she can always bring them back (see Frank and Paul). When one of Jeff's pets loses, he implements a drastic change that further renders Survivor unrecognizable. It started with Terry losing Exile Island changing the FTC to Final 3. The reaction to Aubry losing Kaoh Rong caused the FTC format to change (which was needed at that point, but they need to change it back now). Culpepper losing Lame Changers was the direct causation of the F4 fire-making mandate.

Note how Grodner didn't change the goodbye messages after Paul lost BB19 because of them. Note how she didn't have another "tryst with a jury member" reward like in BB10 for later pets. And note how the BB11 Coup d'Etat never happened again.

I don't think Grodner rigs shit anywhere near as much as she did in BB11, 13, and 14. And I think the biggest reason why is because the fan feedback to all of that was so negative that CBS threatened to fire her if she didn't cut it out. Ergo, I don't think she rigged this for Michie. The late-game competition design might've favored someone like him, which is something that happens regardless (comps favoring a specific skillset), but he had to get to that point on his own. Moves like taking out Sis and Jess helped keep the heat off of him. Grodner loved it and had vested rooting interest, but she didn't outright rig the game for him because doing so could mean her termination.

She told me to look into it to see if I could be eligible in that circumstance - this is not her area of expertise. She also said she had no say in the decision whether or not my request would be approved.

There are two rules in WI that caught my eye:
1. Being fired for "substantial fault" means you are ineligible - and since they gave me clear expectations in written form at one point, they can argue this case
2. You can be eligible if you quit with "good cause" - and resigning to avoid termination can be argued in this instance, therefore it hinges on reason for said termination

First one means that I'd probably not qualify. Second one proved that it didn't really matter whether I resigned or chose termination. I chose the one that'd set me up better for the future.

A large part of this all is that I'd been doing the same thing for way too long and needed a change, but all my negative energy was preventing me from getting anywhere in implementing it. Strange how that works...

Okay, let her know that it's still a resignation. I'm fairly certain that I can't get unemployment given all of the circumstances, this will allow me to extend my health insurance for another month, and I don't want "being fired from a government job" on my permanent record.

This feels right in my gut.

Wage wasn't too special, but the benefits were great.

It could be. You could just not list them as a prior employer if it was just a year. You would need to explain your lack of employment for the time period though.

Can't do that. I was a contractor before they hired me on as a State employee, so I was in this position for five years in different capacities.

See, some people might feel that way. One of these people, in upper management, was bullying me first, but they have everything documented. I just have my words.

I'm legitimately concerned that I'd be denied unemployment benefits given others' versions of the story.

My boss - remember, she is awesome - just sent me an email saying she could still classify this as a termination if I wanted it to, for unemployment purposes. But wouldn't that be a huge black mark on my forever record?

I just made people uncomfortable because I was so openly broken and miserable, that's really it. I already apologized to those affected individually. I did not mean them any harm (my boss knows this).

I'd much less talk about what happened than what I need to do going forward, though. Next steps are more what this topic is about.

This is wrong. Unless you broke some laws or something.

If it wasn't clear by now, I allegedly broke work rules in my misery, and if it's for the State, that's all legal stuff (I also feel one of the upper managers broke a work rule as well by using bullying tactics).

I really don't think I'd qualify for unemployment. It varies from state to state.

There aren't any unions in my state. Two governors ago, a Democrat, started hiring more contractors "to save money" and then the previous governor, a Republican, discontinued the union entirely in part because they'd gotten considerably weaker. So I don't have those protections.

Why didn't you let them fire you? Do you have a pension or something you needed to resign for? They obviously were not gonna rehire you anyways and in many areas it is illegal to give a bad reference.

My boss will give me a truthful reference, which has both good and bad. I do have a pension but I'd only been a permanent employee for a bit over a year. This was the State, so they did try to work with me, but they certainly didn't give a fuck about my further development despite my insistence that they do. That is what broke me: They wanted me to become stupid, essentially.

I don't think I'd handle construction well in winter. I also don't know if I like the idea of moving to the other side of the world. And there isn't an Amazon warehouse within an hour of here. I love my apartment and I don't want to leave if I can avoid it.

On today's agenda (it's a lot):
1. Cleaning my apartment
2. A little baking therapy
3. A few walks (weather permitting)
4. Psychologist appointment
5. Allocating junk to sell on eBay
6. Finishing app for food stamps + Medicaid
7. Seeding misc interim money opportunities
8. A little video gaming for stress relief
9. Starting my new B8 project

Mostly mental preparation. Don't intend to apply for any jobs until Sunday evening, once my head is cleared. That's my first goal.

Data entry is something that you could probably do, which probably caters to our generation better than older generations that don't use computers as often, and younger generations that only use phones.

That's what I was doing, but doing it in a different capacity would certainly be great.

Mine was even more monotonous. Two things, by myself, eight hours a day, no exceptions, no sympathy from upper management. I was asking for more duties for three years. I never got them. They never cared for my development. I wanted to grow and I just ended up regressing.

That's what it sounds like. Just go in to a restaurant, pick it up like you would your own orders, deliver it and only have to deal with people for a minute at a time.

What experience/education do you have? Do I recall correctly that you live with parents so at least rent isn't an issue in the short term?

I have a Bachelor's Degree and five years of experience as a cog.
I moved out last December, so rent is an issue. My parents will not allow me to move back, so it is an issue I definitely have to deal with.

I'm not going to get into what happened, but let's just say my boss is an awesome person, and I'm going to miss working for her a lot. However, I'm not going to miss a single minute of doing that work - it was simply time for something new, because the monotony was making me miserable.

So I've already done the following in the past several hours:
1. Left a message for my DVR counselor (I've been trying to figure out what to do with my life, and this needs to be escalated)
2. Set up an appointment with a psychologist through our Employee Assistance Program, which I still qualify for despite having lost my job
3. Started an application for food stamps + Medicaid, but need pay stub information
4. Got support from family and friends

Today has been a whirlwind.

The problem is, and I've discussed this in the depression topic, that I am in an existential quandary. I need to take a risk but I don't know what the right risk is at this time. I need to get a job, any job - and I'm not the type who's going to do well in an environment where my primary duty is interacting with people, so retail, fast food, and other such things are all out of the question at present. I'm thinking about delivering food for EatStreet (our area's Uber Eats equivalent), where the primary duty is driving, or something similar, but there's gotta be an easy-to-get job like that. I just need *a* job, and the obstacle that my previous job presented being removed really is a blessing.

After I get said job, I can work it for a few months before getting something I really want. But right now, I'm going to have to live day-to-day, and I'm going to need suggestions. What else can I do to set myself up to live comfortably in the next few months? What kinds of jobs should I be looking into? Any advice helps, thanks!

Survivor premiere was good, the twist isn't nearly as cheesy as I thought it was. I would never 1v1 Rob in a fire making challenge without some kind of head start, what the hell was that about? Agreed with this. My first question would've been if I got a head start. Regardless of his answer, I'd try to negotiate an offer - I'd go through with it if:
1. The idol was extended to three Tribals instead of two
2. I got a minute head start
3. He'd give me Nat Ten's phone number

I think he'd take a liking to me pretty quickly.

The biggest problem with Big Brother casting is the season's length. The reason we get so many twentysomethings is because there are very few married older people willing to quit their jobs and leave behind their spouses and children for a 1/16 chance at half a million. We get a lot of the younger, more transient crowd who don't have as much to leave behind - and the older folks we do get have enough stability in some way.

BB can produce a different outcome than alliances like the Level Six Shooters dominating simply by shortening the game's length and thus allowing for more open casting. They need to find a way to cast more people in their 30s and 40s, and the only way to do so is to not make the game ninety nine days long.

REMEMBER: The advertising demo is 18-49, so that has to play a part as well. The idiots that suggest "a season with only people 40 y/o and older" don't seem to understand how that would get the show canceled.

This finale is also terrible for casting because of how life-ruining it is. I really don't get why anyone goes on the show anyway. People get offended by one innocent thing said on feeds and suddenly your life is ruined.

Right, I'd think that things like the alien craft that landed in Roswell in 1947 has been moved to an area that's much less publicized. I'd also think that any aliens that made it here those 72 years ago are unlikely to be alive. Their bodies wouldn't be used to the atmosphere here to subsist longer than average humans.

I would expect that the feds studied the hell out of what they found, however, and are keeping things secret, hence why they act all panicky and come out with fake news to protect the truth. Surprised there hasn't been a leak though.

Axel: High Fodder. Has never advanced. Hasn't been in a contest since 2010, and that was by vote-in. I don't think many people care about him, but he's recognizable enough to beat up fodder, so yeah.

Wonder Woman: Midcarder. I can say that Gal Godot has helped her case TREMENDOUSLY, and I can definitely see her getting votes from the vast majority of the females that come visit that day (I know that's like 15% of votes but still). Diana's instantly recognizable and iconic in her own right, but she didn't become viable until 2016 when the hype train for the movie left the station. She's gone from High Fodder to a Midcarder in the past three years. Insane.

Cait Sith: High Fodder. FFVII is a much-beloved game on this site, so that surely helps his/her/its case, but he/she/it has never made a bracket (nor have Yuffie and Red XIII), and that goes to show you that he/she/it is one of the throwaway playables from that game. While new exposure from FFVIIR will certainly help matters, I don't see him/her/it putting up much of a fight against anyone. He's not iconic.

...also, my "he/she/it" meme for Cait Sith is a decade old now? Holy shit. My hair just turned gray.
