Oh I forgot to mention...some of my kids actually went from 6th to the 8th grade. They were held back a year or two so once they get too old just start passing them up.

When I was doing the interview the guy wanted me to guarantee I would stay the whole year. I see why now. Apparently, this type of position has a high turnover rate. We had a reading ESE teachers quit already and they don't even have a new teacher yet.

I wont quit on my kids but I'm leaving when the year is up. I just cant stand not having my own room.

Its the ESE kids. In other words, they are very low in math. They often have learning disabilities or behavior/emotional issues.

The class sizes are really small. However, my class of 6 pissed me off way more than my class of 13 yesterday.

Most kids have already been failed by their teachers by the time they reach middle school. It's mostly the elementary teachers that are inadequate, but there aren't many standardized tests or quantifiable measurements made until it's too late to actually address any of the issues the kids are having.

The whole education system is fucked, tbh. But it starts at the bottom, and just snowballs as the kids get older and fall further and further behind.

If they have bad teachers in elementary school it doesn't help, but I think its mainly the parents fault.

- I don't have my own classroom so I have to change rooms nearly every period.

And yeah, I shouldn't call the kids dumb. I actually do like them. 2 of them got me mad yesterday. But my kids are so low in math it's frustrating. I'm expected to teach them pre algebra when they can even divide or multiply. I'm committed to them to my very best for one year but I want regular classes next year.
