Watched the first two episodes.

An attempt was made, I guess. Animators and voice actors got paid, so that's nice.

It's not... BAD. It's just... eh. Which I guess is just as bad.

I'll keep it on my workout routine, but can't see myself properly sitting down for this.

Then you missed the best ending.

I missed nothing. I watched all the other possible endings later on. I'm still satisfied with my choice.

I will say that that ending you talk about is probably the ultimate close-out of Kenny, assuming you liked him and trusted him the whole way. It was certainly well done.

Then I dealt with the hurdles they went through to collapse all of those disparate situations into Season 3.

Say what you will about Season 3, they knew they were going for a fourth, so they didn't go nuts with the possibilities.
