The characters and plot are all perfectly fine -- in fact, they're the best part of the game.
The soundtrack has a bunch of famous 60s tracks, from rock to R&B, and is flat-out amazing.
The world itself (built around a faux New Orleans) is pretty good, too.

However, the worst part is part of how the plot is structured. To advance to the good missions where you deal with major enemies, you need to undermine their operations by kicking underbosses' asses. This usually means wasting time wiretapping things, killing peddlers and pimps, etc. You'll need to do this, at least partially, for each major player. You can skip some of it, but not all, so it'll still wear thin after awhile.

Anyway, there'll be a lot of people ragging on the game, but it's actually quite fun. You can tackle certain things through stealth (whistling is OP) or just go in guns blazing. There's all kinds of mafia lackeys, moonshiners, drug runners, etc. to kill. Just know that there's no fast traveling, so when you're at the top of the map and need to visit the bottom of the bayou, you're going to be driving the whole way, then all the way back.

PS: Make sure to bank your walking around money, because you'll lose part of it each time you die otherwise. You can get an upgrade (from Vito, I think) that gives you a mobile consigliere pickup. This is way better than having to drive to your house and manually deposit things into a safe.

Dwemer ruins were my faves. Of course, when you're a stealth crossbowman critting the hell out of everything, from the smallest spiderbot to those huge steam-powered goliaths, everything is peachy. I'd rather do a dwemer ruin than those Dragonborn ruins with those pig-riding things, haha.

I rather liked Black Cauldron, animation-wise at least. I remember letting my young niece watch it at one point and she got freaked out by all the skeletons, haha.

Holy crap, you can get 416 drops from 5-4E? I didn't know that. Just unlocked it myself, but I imagine the drop rate is like 0.05% or some crap, haha.

I got the SAW from the normal 5-6. Maybe try that? I dunno. Might switch to running 2-6 (normal) just to see if my luck changes.

Boss rushing is more resource-friendly. I really wouldn't bother S-ranking huge maps (some later ones require getting 12+ kills in X turns, lol) unless you're really desperate or going for medals.

Before I start grinding, how good are FMG-9 and Tokarev?

Don't have FMG yet (up to almost 70 tries for her) but apparently she dodges most things, but her low HP hurts against the more accurate enemies. Basically, dancing on the knife's edge. As for Tokarev, she buffs ROF, accuracy and evasion, so she does work. Kinda regret destroying the only one I had last month.

Three-star drops are uncommon, but as earlier posts show, they can definitely drop -- it just may take some grinding. It's 4* stuff that's way harder to get. I've been playing for a month and a half and could count the number of random 4* drops on one hand.
