It's not so much the hippies as it is the upper class residents who live in those areas. They don't want burns in their area despite building atop an ecosystem that kinda relies on it. Not to mention some of these fires happen on federal land so state forest management can't really do anything about it. There's a good book called The Case for Letting Malibu Burn by Mike Davis that gives a pretty good insight to why the fires keep getting worse and the history of fire suppression. |

Here's the thing with that "okay" hand gesture, it started out as the okay gesture then it became the spot game, and then because of the trolling effort of 4chan to cause outrage from the libs, it became adopted by the far-right including some white supremacists. It's gone beyond just an okay symbol. |

Some of you folks need to be on quite the watchlist I don't really find it interesting. It's disappointing though. This forum used to be better, but the mods just let behavior like this run rampant due to fear of being unfair despite everyone knowing what's right and what's wrong. And yeah, people need to stop handwaving these sort of actions and take it more seriously. Whether those kids had malicious intention or not, giving them a pass just lets them think this type of stuff is okay and it just continues to normalize these actions. |
