Apparently they only got information from websites that were in English, and underesestimated the number of international incidents by a ridiculous degree (like, 1900 as opposed to 250). It's all bullshit anyway though because they weren't counting gang related violence or incidents that all the victims were family members. Obviously mass shootings are a big problem, I'm just pointing out that that particular study is pig shit. |

I would argue that there are a lot of different kinds of escape in videogames, just as their would be in other forms of media. For me personally, the thing I've always enjoyed about games, video games as well as tabletop games, is the story within the story. The tiny details and otherwise seemingly meaningless in the grand scheme of things, kinds of things. In this instance, I see rolling up into a town on foot because my horse got left behind (long story), covered in mud and smelling like bear shit (even longer story) so that everyone is giving me the stink eye, while being hungry but not having any money to buy anything so I'm contemplating pulling some petty theft shit to possibly get myself back on track... That might sound grueling and lame to some people who want to get on to the next big chase, heist or plot point, but I see it as all part of a story. It's the story I care about most. Not just the story that comes through the plot and the narrative, but the stories you make yourself, that are unique to you. I want a day in the life of a cowboy. This seems to be the game for me. |

I'm not so sure. Both would lead to a further division for sure, but attacking the group that perceives itself as the underdog is going to elicit a more rabid response. Perhaps the response would be essentially similar regardless of whether they are attacking the establishment Dems or the establishment Repubs. I certainly agree that any attacks on the fringe left or the fringe right would be less effective. In such a scenario, we'd have to question the motive, as the motive would likely be different if a state actor did this as opposed to a fringe radical. It would be likely that the main intention is to further divide the political spectrum, but the timing would certainly suggest that they are either trying to influence the election outcome, or to amplify the associated feelings about the outcome. |
