Of course it is.

Lmao

In what context is apologizing for Nazis good?

I mean that depends on if you think hes apologizing.

From what I gather, he wants to understand the motivations so it doesnt happen again. If you think the only motivation was anti Semitism then you likely arent worried about becoming a nazi if you arent anti Semitic.

But if you think there is something that is triggered in certain situations that causes humans to behave like that, you would want to understand that something so when youre out in a position that is too terrible to imagine, youll make the right choice.

Or hes a secret nazi slowly working to gather more supporters of an awful ideology by telling potential converts that nazis are disgusting but understandable in the context.

Either way

Great Leap Forward, easily. Isn't that where they tried "deep farming" (planting seeds multiple feet in the ground) and "communist agriculture" (plant things too close together so they can "share resources") that was the primary driving force behind their massive famine?

Yes, but those things (and the idea that they could grow more by doing them) just led to inflated numbers, which led to the government taking more than the people had, which led to the famine.

This is one of the more dangerous aspects of a centrally planned economy dominated by threat of violence.

There's no mechanism for improvement because no one wants to admit they failed....so if they can fudge the numbers they will.

The Cultural Revolution (1966 - Mao's death in 1976) was basically Mao's attempt to gain influence again after the failure of the Great Leap Forward by removing any sign of capitalism from China. He claimed that bourgeois ideas had taken over society and the government, and the only way to fix this was through class revolution.

Went to look at some pieces...at the end there was the exit and another door that led to an open walled off area. I looked around and saw that there was a stack of bikes in one corner, a stroller in the middle, a grandfather clock at the far end and a few pictures hung on the walls.

I had been pushing our stroller around and was kinda over it (wife was holding the kid) so I thought "Oh a nice place to put this while we look at the funny paintings".

So I asked the guy if its a storage place and he said it was an exhibit to highlight the various ways in which our institutions oppress minorities. I guess the bikes and the strollers were from a police auction....the clock I'm still not sure of. And the pictures hanging were social security cards. I appreciated the guys passion for explaining it, but man.

I wish we could go back to making things that are pretty :( the romantics had it all wrong!

Doesn't matter what department this happens in...definitely hurts the whole peer review industry...not that it wasn't already hurting.

I think I remember reading one of the papers was discussing potentially having privileged students talked over in class...and maybe chained to the seat (it was something strange like this) and the reviewer said they didn't think they went far enough in their recommendations....

I'll have to read up on this thing again. It's probably pretty rampant in all disciplines, but those based less on hard science are probably easier to sneak them in.

I guess If all you care about is material shit then yeah. But you don't need to be rich to have a family and enjoy a meaningful life. I mean you can't be poor obviously but I feel like we focus too much on being millionaires because if only we could get that money we'd be happy.

Doesn't seem like that's the way it works in my mind...I know plenty of people with money who definitely arent happy with their lives. So at the very least, money isn't the only thing needed I guess...

If the biological difference affects the way you learn then yes. But an equivalent biology would return an equivalent output

And if we assume the way boys are taught is better, then it is audacious that we would teach boys and girls differently since biology is equivalent.

No one has said anything about them being biologically the same, and that assumption clearly isn't needed for the argumentation.

What's needed for your argumentation, though, is a demonstration that teaching them science differently necessarily follows from known biological differences, which isn't there.

not that it necessarily follows, but that it should follow. "Ought". But only if there are known biological differences.

Since there are none, I am arguing they ought to be taught the same as what is good for one biology is good for an equal biology.
