That would be my guess, that if he can't do an hour+ long prestream, then he figures he won't make enough money. Either that or he isn't actually sick. How would we even know if his throat was sore anyway? On a good day, half of his commentary is him clearing his throat.

But any person with actual "dire" financial problems would stream some games and explain (maybe via Twitter or with an on-screen graphic) that they won't be saying much due to a sore throat. He wouldn't even have to turn the face cam on. And if no one shows up or donations are super low, then he could say he was feeling too sick to continue. At least that would show he was willing to put in a minimal amount of effort.

I think "chill stream" also means that it's going to be more boring than usual, but you should still give him money.

It's hilarious that he talks about money constantly, but if someone types "money" in chat, they get banned pretty quick.

I'm sure his post-Christmas begging stream will be more successful than his last couple marathons. He'll tell a sob story about how difficult it was to enjoy the holidays while worrying about his financial situation. He'll strongly imply that this could be his and Kat's last Christmas in the house, and what a tragedy that is--she just moved in, dood! And his loyal fans will eat it up and start dumping money on him. I really believe that some of his fans have been waiting for this and are going to drop some big donations.

I think the Bob Ross stuff could work if he picked a person he could actually imitate and knew something about. Dress up as a wrestler or a video game character. His Bob Ross is basically a passive-aggressive whiner who speaks in a quiet voice and hates Street Fighter V.

That marathon was a disaster, and, for once, Phil seemed to understand that. I know he was mostly feeling bad about the lack of donations and started blaming the Patrons for the selection of games, but there were still a couple moments when he appeared to understand that the failure of the marathon was his fault. It wasn't just the fans complaining--he had failed to provide them with entertainment. I think if this rarely seen self aware side of Phil showed up more often, he might actually be able to improve. But I'm sure it was just an anomalous blip and he'll go right back to his "I did nothing wrong" credo.

He seemed legitimately depressed that donations were low. Top tip of $20? He's been getting that (or more) on most of his regular streams lately. I was watching Tevin's stream, and I'm pretty sure Tevin made at least twice as much as he did.

Blaming the Patrons is just stupid. If Phil feels they keep picking bad games, then maybe it's time to figure out a new way to pick games. Not that Phil is going to enjoy anything he plays.

Their guidelines say dangerous or illegal consumption of alcohol is prohibited, which is probably why he's taking it easy. On the other hand, playing pirated games is prohibited. I would assume that applies to emulated games.

Hour and a half long prestream, during which he talked about detractors and money pretty much the entire time. Then a ten minute break to go to the bathroom and get a drink. Then another ten minutes or so to explain about the drink. Fun, chill Christmas stream.

I had to go and watch his fight against Golbez. Like every other playthrough, he quickly reaches the point of "this is fucking stupid," "stupid fucking game," and "this is a waste of time; I should just turn the game off." He outright says that he has played the DS version before, but he doesn't remember any of this. And King of Retro Phil who loves JRPGs has to be told to cast Libra (ie: Scan) on a boss that changes his weakness. This is embarrassing even by his low standards.

He said he played the DS version before, yet he doesn't know how to use Augments and has apparently forgotten that most of the bosses use different strategies (and are generally much more difficult if you don't adapt). I'm sure purchasing the Steam version was the easiest way to go, but maybe he should have figured out a way to play the SNES version he's more familiar with. I'd have to check, but I'm pretty sure it's available on the Wii U Virtual Console.

He sees that the boss counters with a magic attack that hits the whole party whenever she gets hit with a physical attack, so he keeps using physical attacks.

Someone cheers and asks who is his favorite Final Fantasy hero, villain, and boss. He makes some excuse about the question spanning too many games and says he can't answer it. I know I complain a lot about how terrible he is at streaming, but he constantly complains about the lack of interaction and then he refuses to answer simple questions that actually pertain to the game he's playing.

That last match was a bit disappointing (and people were getting messages deleted in the chat for calling it boring), but it was a pretty good show overall. At least, unlike with WWE, I didn't feel the urge to turn it off after five minutes.

They played off each other perfectly. Attitude Era JR and the King were great, too, but Gorilla and Heenan were the best.

I miss watching WWE sometimes, but I had to accept that it would never improve, and I stopped watching in 2014.
