The bonus matches usually have some kind of symbolic value - the match between losers at the end of CBIX round 1, or the 4th/5th/6th place match. It should have value beyond "who would win between two random characters that didn't get a chance to face off in the bracket". And honestly when I'm quite possibly more responsible than anybody else for Mario > Samus, yeah, your posts do have something to do with me directly. Because - as you said - these aren't real characters. They're just entrants in a popularity contest voted on by people. When you attack "Mario's bullshit clutch ability" you're attacking the people who voted for him late and the people who made that happen.
