Whether this is something that should be dabbled in or not isn't even the issue here, it's that Stefan Molyneux chameleons into whatever will make him the most amount of money from the current big "underground" movement of the day, and it changes every few years or so. I don't know why people can't see this. I mean just look through his older videos.

The only reason I'm familiar with him is because he has been dabbling in the forbidden knowledge of behavioral biology over the past year or so. But even then I haven't ever watched his own creations, only seen him as a guest on other shows/podcasts.

I might consider jumping back in myself. Stopped playing after 80 hours. Which I know isn't much to hardcore players but it was plenty for me. At that point the game was just a grind to get through for different armor and weapons so I stopped.

That's kinda the problem with World compared to its predecessors, 80 hours in some of the others and you'd still be accessing new monsters, especially if you are still relatively new to the series. I'm pretty sure I played 2 or 3 entries before I hit the credits in one.

I'm pretty sure Freedom Unite was the first game that I hit the credits, I remember thinking 'whoa, this series has credits?' and I've only hit the true end-game monster in maybe a couple entries. I hit the credits in MHW after 30 hours I think, and was disappointed by what else I could do afterward. (also a lot of the weapons trees seem really phoned in visually)

Don't get me wrong, I think MHW is great for the series in most ways except it clearly suffering from development being poured into presentation over content. There is a TON of quality of life stuff I miss while playing MHGU.

some 'fringe' stuff that I find interesting in some ways but don't care for overall would be professional sports and hunting.

For sports I still enjoy fantasy leagues and stuff that involves me more as a spectator, but I have no attachment to team pride or things like that. I rarely ever sit down and watch a game unless I'm doing so with other people.

As far as hunting and generally being an outdoorsman goes, I am interested in the tools of the trade, I like interesting knives and guns and stuff, compasses, backpacking trinkets, survival kits, tents, etc. But I'm not interested (and actively avoid) spending days out in the woods or on a trail. I was in Boy Scouts and got enough of that to last me a while.

What has already been said, presentation, music, and combat. The game rewards adaptive strategy rather than grinding, I'm doing chapter 4s right now and haven't had to grind a single time, instead went back into fights with a different plan.

That said the game does have many problems but overall it is a step in the right direction for Square. (But let's be honest. This isnt going to change a thing for it's big ticket developments)

The only case of this as far as the mainline is concerned is playing IV before Apocalypse.

Apocalypse is an alternate timeline sequel that starts during the events of IV, I think Apocalypse is the better game overall, but you should play IV first.

Start with Persona 5 if you consider them to be SMT.

If you want mainline only recommendations, SMT IV

(SMT: Strange Journey Redux can be a good start too, but it is considerably more dense than IV, so I'd only recommend it if you are willing to tinker a little more with it.)

If you dont want to get into the Smash Bros. style scene and are looking for a way to break into the more traditional fighters,

Pocket Rumble and Fantasy Strike are both great for a true entry level, both have simple controls and smaller roster sizes, great for someone looking to take a crack at a genre with a notoriously steep learning curve. (Fantasy Strike is still in early access)

If you'd rather just dive in with both feet, SFV and Dragon Ball Fighterz are a good median entry point.

I'd recommend staying away from anime fighters, Blaz Blue, Guilty Gear, etc. Until you've got some experience under your belt.
