Additionally, Jecht's (meaningful) appearances in Final Fantasy X are almost all flashbacks and I don't think he ever gets to do anything particularly cool in them? Didn't get all the Jecht Spheres, admittedly.

Except this is literally the only good game that has come out since these contests first started in 2002. That has to count for something. Certainly enough to put Knuckles over shithead Zidane

Knuckles almost lost to Cecil in 2010 and looked no better in 2013.

He probably needs a Mania boost to even be competitive with Zidane. FFIX beat Kingdom Hearts in 2015.

Ryu just because he seems pretty consistently near the lower end and around ~30% on Link (probably a bit less on peak Link but more on the weaker Links) unless one of the characters who beat him were later involved in shenanigans. Dante's often around his level but the problem there is that I feel Dante's releases actually matter somewhat and can change his strength whereas Ryu's don't; the latter is almost all iconic strength and very few on gamefaqs care what new fighting games Ryu has appeared in within the last few years. I guess Smash could potentially be an exception? Not sure what to make of Ryu in Smash other than "not even remotely close to the boost Solid Snake got."

Dragonborn would have needed at least 14.08% of Yuna's votes to break his way to match Peach's performance, which is probably likely, and Rosalina is probably not near Peach's level. You'd figure Tifa would be at least a little stronger in 2006 though.

I'd be a little wary of assuming Ness is as weak as he's been in the past. Earthbound had gotten a serious boost in 2015. I don't think his past couple contest results tell us much either - and for 2010 they're suspicious in part because they make him look too good!

Snake/Lloyd:

2010 Snake > Fox > Lloyd projected Snake beating Lloyd with 21.6%
2013 Snake > Isaac had Isaac getting 22.2% directly.

You'd figure 2013 Snake was better so Isaac probably wins but that one could be close!

I'd also be skeptical that Leon hasn't dropped.

Letting Gordon Freeman make up 4% on you (when you were at best pretty much the weakest near-elite in the first place) as well as letting Alleged Near-Fodder Line Shadow the Hedgehog get 40% on both look kinda bad.

I was heavy into the gamefaqs Fire Emblem fandom in the 2000's and past the "Are Marth and Roy in this game?" meme (https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/468480-fire-emblem?search=Marth) I feel like people there stopped caring much about Marth pretty damn quickly since he wasn't in the current games. They latched onto like Hector, Oswin, Marcus, and weird plot-irrelevant bosses that said goofy things, Gheb being the king of that once Sacred Stones was out. Even among those playing the older games, FE4 and FE6 seemed to get vastly more attention than Marth's stuff, although IIRC FE1 and FE3 weren't translated for a good while. Then once we finally got an official release of a game starring Marth (Shadow Dragon), it got okay reviews from critics but the fanbase absolutely dumped on it.

I think Marth support was always mostly Smash-based.
