Human pilot with SHIELD connections is abducted from Earth and pals around the universe with a superpowered alien prince until he dies sacrificing himself to stop a crazy science plot conducted by one of his enemies. In the process, Carol gets her body chemistry altered from exposure to a crazy science fallout. She's now augmented with alien physiology turning her into a flying brick with versatile energy manipulation abilities.

She goes back to join the Avengers and a bunch of stuff happens. She becomes best friends when Wanda Maximoff and things are great until Marvel decides they'd like to write her out of the book, and an amazingly boneheaded plot (commonly remembered as "the rape of Ms. Marvel," in reference to a scathing critical review written about the book) is written wherein she essentially marries a mind controlling supervillain and runs off to have his child (who is actually a clone of himself, yikes), and none of the Avengers see anything wrong with it (including her alleged best friend). Mess.

Embarrassed, Marvel is even more desperate to write her out. They write a really hamhanded book in which she accuses the Avengers of not realizing what was essentially a coercive relationship, and then quits the Avengers. Shortly afterwards, she gets her powers stolen by Rogue (of X-Men fame) and gets put in a coma for like a decade in publication time. She wakes up eventually, and while she's basically ignored for like fifteen years until the mid 2000s her life falls into alcoholism and general failure.

Things turn around for her when Wanda Maximoff causes the 2004 House of M plotline and essentially re-imagines the world in which everyone gets their fondest wish. In this world, Carol is an Avenger again and enjoys the universal love of everyone. Eventually the House of M ends, but from it Carol is inspired to become a superhero again and she buries the hatchet to rejoin the Avengers. She supports Tony in the first Civil War, in part because she's a rookie member and she doesn't want to buck the system. As a result, when Cap essentially defects, she becomes the second in command.

I don't understand the connection you're trying to make. The restaurant exercised their right to deny Sanders service. The government did not shut them down or imprison anyone. However, other customers didn't like what happened, so they protested and the business suffered. Free market advocates have said the same thing about denying service to anyone else. Deny service to a gay person, for example, and there will definitely be customers who will boycott your restaurant. That is the consequence, except the Left also wants the government to use its muscle to close your business and/or imprison the owners if they don't pay fines.

Do you see the difference or are you conflating the two scenarios?

Let's be real here and not downplay that, especially when we now live in a time where you have actual US citizens saying America was never great and college students have trouble admitting that the nation ever accomplished anything noteworthy. Going along with what you said, this should also be true of other nations and what they have contributed. The Soviets did almost everything space-related first and they should be praised for it, even if relations between the two nations' governments have once again soured.

My grandma on my mom's side was the victim of a murder suicide when I was 9 years old. I didn't see the bodies, but I saw the blood everywhere in the house. It was so sad and fucked up. So, I guess from there I've had a preoccupation with death. I been to a handful of funerals. Then later in life after high school I had a friend who was a mortician, and he would let me go back and see him work. That was a trip. Then I became an EMT not long after that and had to do CPR on people. My partner and I resurrected one person who we found dead at a dialysis center. I was told she died later though. And I myself have had two near-death experiences. Also, the only person in my family left alive now is my mom. So, death is always kind of on my mind.

Damn, that sucks about the murder-suicide. It seems kind of common, but I have no solution for that. For sure, no child should have to see it or the aftermath.

Have you ever thought about being a mortician or something like that? I heard state coroners can make good money and I think very few people can stomach what youve seen.

I had to identify someone close to me when he drowned. He was young. It was a fucked up experience, but I was the relative closest to the hospital so I was the first to arrive. That really sucked. I wanted so bad for the body not to be him, mainly because of the trauma to his parents, but I realized that he would still be someones loved one. Shit.
