have you been to any of those places? definitely recommend a place you haven't been.

if you already have your passport go to Quebec. it'll be different enough (French everywhere) that it'll feel exotic and exciting but familiar enough (English everywhere) that you won't feel lost or isolated.

You should start with the key that unlocks everything and go straight to Blighttown first

even though it's helpful to access things early, i recommend against taking the Master Key for beginners because it opens up the world so much that it can be confusing about where to go next.

unless you're really focusing on min/maxing for PvP it probably doesn't matter tbh. depends on what else you want your build to do. if you're looking for a hybrid of melee and spells and your class is melee, you'll probably be fine.

Sorcerer is a starting class with appropriate stats, soul arrow (spell) and a catalyst.

you want to focus on INT. later spells cost as much as 50 and i believe spell buff goes all the way up to 60.

Attunement is the other stat you care about because it gives spell slots. look up a chart showing how many points unlock each slot so you don't waste points. i think my sorcerer had 7.

there's a crown you get that buffs Sorcery (and all magic) damage by 20%. use it.

the first undead merchant you come across in Undead Burg will sell an "apartment key". buy this because you need it to unlock a door to find the first sorcery merchant (he's in the lower part of the Burg, near an area where you find a burning pyre, some dogs and thieves).

second sorcery merchant is found in Sen's Fortress. do not leave Sen's without finding and freeing him.

- when you get to the Tomb of Giants, you should have a skull lantern to use as a light. if you don't have one, you missed a drop from one of the necromancers in the Catacombs

- when you find Oswald of Carim after beating the Gargoyles, it's a good idea to buy a few purging stones to remove curse. only one other merchant sells them and there's no other way to remove curse.

- good idea to buy a few blooming purple moss clumps from vendor in the sewers before heading to Blighttown (blowdart snipers inflict toxic in 1-2 shots)

- Quelaag and Sif did nothing wrong

- you should be able to get a +5 weapon shortly after finding Andre (first blacksmith) because he sells shards

- you should be able to get a +10 weapon by the time you finish Sen's Fortress because a merchant in there sells large shards

- Sorcery is incredibly powerful. i did a run through the game using only sorcery to damage enemies and it was really easy once i found the first sorcery merchant

Resistance is worthless, don't waste any points on it

Armor is actually valuable in this game for more than fashion. both DEF and POISE are very helpful

Mimics are easy to identify by looking at the chain on the right side of the chest. if its curled up, its safe. if it's more extending towards you, it's a mimic

Don't go to the graveyard at the beginning

You will get fast travel about 1/2 way through the game, but only to selected bonfires

Give fire keeper souls to fire keepers -- do not consume them

Upgrading armor is worthwhile if you find a set you want to stick with

you need to get a weapon to +5 before you can "ascend" it into a new type (fire, lightning, etc)

divine weapons will prevent summoned enemies (skeletons) from respawning

the blowdart snipers in Blighttown don't respawn (seriously fuck those things)
