Your topic title says "What's wrong with the NRA" and I told you. Not my fault that my argument didn't follow your oh so carefully crafted narrative in this topic. If you want to back up your first post's claim, I won't challenge that. Quite frankly, I don't think the NRA has to lobby Congress these days. They've got all the paying and voting lobbyists they'll ever need in the gun owners who support the leadership blindly.

Anyway, I used my first source for historical purposes. If you wish to provide a better perspective of the Revolt of Cincinnati and the NRA main policy switch, be my guest.

Anyway, the NRA is not a big evil organization that controls Congress.

They're an advocacy group that started as focused on safety, responsibility, and sensible gun control laws. They've even put forth gun control policy in the past.

Then the Revolt of Cincinnati happened in the 70s and Harlon Carter took a leadership role, starting the NRA on its path to being the mouthpiece for the gun business. Instead of responsible gun ownership, the main narrative being pushed is that every God-fearing American is constantly facing threats at every turn and the only recourse is to buy a gun, and perhaps more guns if it's not too much trouble.

It's become almost cartoonish at this point, because all during the Obama administration they pushed the fear that government was going to take their guns. When the Democrats lost complete control of the government, you'd think that would settle them down, but instead, in February of 2017, not even a month after Trump took office:

For the NRA leadership, it doesn't matter what the fight is for. All that matters is that guns are sold and continue to be sold. They've taken a marketing campaign and wrapped it in the pretty bow of personal freedoms. They've suckered multiple generations into not only buying their product, but being willing to fight to the death for it.

They've walked up to the fearful American citizen, dangled a device used for nothing but killing in front of their eyes, looked them straight in the eye, and told them "you need this".

I don't want the NRA gone. I want the gun industry out of the NRA leadership.

I get that a lot of people on the left have had a vested interest in rewriting this bit of history, but it wasn't exactly THAT long ago and plenty of people still remember what the early parts of it were like.

I disagree. Poe loves, respects, and trusts Leia. For him to stage a mutiny on her for leaving him out of the loop after a demotion would be a serious turn on his character.

He only knows Holdo by reputation, and vice versa, so the two have no real reason to trust each other except for the chain of command.

I'm not saying it HAD to be Holdo who was the officer in question, but having it be Leia would require Poe to turn on one of his heroes.

It needs new leadership. Leadership with *zero* financial ties to the gun industry.

Funny story: the original NRA (prior to the 60s and 70s) had been FOR gun control regulations. They were about using guns responsibly, gun safety, gun training, and so forth.

But as soon as the business interests found their way into leadership positions, they have become little more than a bunch of gun-pushers disguised as an advocacy group. The only thing they advocate these days is that everyone is in a constant state of threat, whether it's from the government or the "violent left" (depending on who's in power), and the only recourse to protect yourself, your family, and your freedoms, is to buy a gun, and maybe buy more guns while you're at it.

Good question! So, for the longest time I tried to post on other boards and I kinda settled on TWSS and Star Wars. TWSS is nice but not particularly... active. I still post there plenty, though. Star Wars was nice for a while because I could talk about something I really like, and with it coming back in a big way, there was a lot to talk about.

Then TLJ came out, and I made the apparent mistake of enjoying it.

To make a long story short, when I left it, the Star Wars board was run by the haters. And unlike CE, it's the same few toxic people over and over again.

Also I have a passing fascination with the Politics board. Been posting there a little. Anyone who goes there, you know the drill.

All that basically gave me perspective to realize that ultimately, CE isn't all that bad comparatively, there are people I miss here, and I need some place to talk about the vidya james.

For further mindblowage, my job is a safety consultant. I do walk-throughs of actual work sites and construct "guides" for people to work safely. It's like I've been prepping for this all my life. :)

Dynamic sig moreso.

Huggle topics were nice but mostly me trying to get some basic human affection/attention. Now that I've actually got proper friends (some of whom I huggle whenever I have the chance), I look on it as a bit more of a desperate time for me. Also CE's a little too cynical these days for such things.

I've hidden her somewhere in the wilderness. To find her, you'll have to solve a series of clues, each more devious than the last.

Seriously, mox is fine and doing well. She still has an online presence and anyone with a few rocks in their head can find her pretty easily. Haven't seen her in person in a while, though. Need to fix that with a trip to NYC in the near future.

Waaaaay back when I was ten or eleven or something, my cousin introduced me to this thing called "D&D" and we did a campaign. I learned the name "Cyric" as the God of Madness/Prince of Thieves, etc. from the Forgotten Realms canon. I thought it sounded cool, brought it with me when I went online, and the rest is history. Z is the first and last letters of my last name.
