The White House has tried to avoid discussing a February skirmish between U.S. troops and Russian mercenaries in Syria, but that didnt stop President Donald Trump from bragging about the Pentagons performance at a recent closed-door fundraiser.

The details of the battle remain classified, but speaking to donors in midtown Manhattan last Wednesday, Trump said he was amazed by the performance of American F-18 pilots. He suggested that the strikes may have been as brief as 10 minutes and taken out 100 to 300 Russians, according to a person briefed on the presidents remarks, which have not previously been reported.

Trump often makes unscripted comments at fundraisers, and he revels in the exploits of the U.S. military. At a Republican National Committee fundraiser last fall, he told the crowd that Defense Secretary Jim Mattis had never lost a battle, and he has bragged about the countrys nuclear superiority in confrontations with North Korea.

American officials have long feared that a clash with Russian forces in Syria would add tension to the already strained relationship between the two countries, and they intentionally avoided Russian targets last month when they bombed the country in response to Bashar Assads use of chemical weapons. According to The New York Times, which last week provided the first detailed description of the battle, the confrontation lasted four hours and left between 200 and 300 pro-Assad forces dead.

White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah declined to comment on Trumps remarks because information about the Syria strikes remains classified.

The fundraiser at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel was attended by about 100 of Trumps top-dollar supporters, who paid a minimum of $50,000 a head to attend the dinner. Though protesters lined the streets outside, Trump was greeted warmly by supporters inside, including his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani.

Not having been to either, Target Field seems a lot more intimate and modern, though my impression is that the renovations that took place around 2013 made it a nice place to take in a game

But at the end of the day Kauffmann Stadium is surrounded by parking lots, and Target Field is downtown. So the latter has that going for it.

Of course, thats because Barrs tweet was racially charged, while Maher was likely referencing the presidents signature orange hue.

One of the conservatives who tweeted about Maher was Charlie Kirk, Turning Point USA founder and executive, who is friends with the presidents son, Donald Trump Jr. Wait, Bill Maher makes comparisons to Trump being a gorilla all the time? They get classified as jokes by the media and he is of course allowed to keep his show and not have his life ruined, he tweeted Tuesday. The difference? Bill Maher is a liberal, Roseanne is a free-thinking Trump supporter.

Kirk wasnt the only one who felt that way. At the time of publication, Mahers name had nearly 19,000 tweets, even though he hadnt posted a message to Twitter since Monday. His last tweet was an expletive-laden message about the NBA finals and Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Khlo Kardashian.

This ignorance of context is willful.

I really enjoyed Origins. A lot of it was kinda repetitive, (go here, clear out x camp of enemies) but I found the combat and gameplay fun enough to keep going. They give you a lot of tools to get the job done and I liked getting creative with them.

Ivanka Trumps brand continues to win foreign trademarks in China and the Philippines, adding to questions about conflicts of interest at the White House, The Associated Press has found.

On Sunday, China granted the first daughters company final approval for its 13th trademark in the last three months, trademark office records show. Over the same period, the Chinese government has granted Ivanka Trumps company provisional approval for another eight trademarks, which can be finalized if no objections are raised during a three-month comment period.

Taken together, the trademarks could allow her brand to market a lifetimes worth of products in China, from baby blankets to coffins, and a host of things in between, including perfume, makeup, bowls, mirrors, furniture, books, coffee, chocolate and honey. Ivanka Trump stepped back from management of her brand and placed its assets in a family-run trust, but she continues to profit from the business.

Ivanka Trumps refusal to divest from her business is especially troubling as the Ivanka brand continues to expand its business in foreign countries, Noah Bookbinder, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, said in an email Monday. It raises significant questions about corruption, as it invites the possibility that she could be benefiting financially from her position and her fathers presidency or that she could be influenced in her policy work by countries treatment of her business.

As Ivanka Trump and her father have built their global brands, largely through licensing deals, they have pursued trademarks in dozens of countries. Those global trademarks have drawn the attention of ethics lawyers because they are granted by foreign governments and can confer enormous value. Concerns about political influence have been especially sharp in China, where the courts and bureaucracy are designed to reflect the will of the ruling Communist Party.

The brand has filed, updated, and rigorously protected its international trademarks over the past several years in the normal course of business, especially in regions where trademark infringement is rampant, Abigail Klem, president of Ivanka Trumps brand, said in an email. We have recently seen a surge in trademark filings by unrelated third parties trying to capitalize on the name and it is our responsibility to diligently protect our trademark.

More approvals are likely to come. Online records from Chinas trademark office indicate that Ivanka Trumps company last applied for trademarks 17 of them on March 28, 2017, the day before she took on a formal role at the White House. Those records on Monday showed at least 25 Ivanka Trump trademarks pending review, 36 active marks and eight with provisional approval.

The World Intellectual Property Organizations brand database also shows that her company, Ivanka Trump Marks LLC, won three trademarks in the Philippines after her father took office. Two of them that cover clothing, including lingerie and baby clothes, were filed on Feb. 8, 2017, and registered in June and November. The third, filed on March 1, 2017, covers clothing and footwear and was registered in July.

Companies register for trademarks for a variety of reasons. They can be a sign of corporate ambition, but in many countries, like China, where trademark squatting is rampant, companies also file defensively, to block copycats from grabbing legal rights to a brands name. Trademarks are classified by category and may include items that a company does not intend to market. Some trademark lawyers also advise clients to register trademarks for merchandise that is manufactured in China, even if its not sold there.
