I did see that one of the megadimensional Neptuna games is in VR...I already own it, but think I got it on sale, so it's not too bad to rebuy it. Then I would have at least 1 RPG I have not played for it yet. It's VII I think.

They have upgraded some of the theaters recently to be comfortable with chairs that recline etc, and no worries about people in front of you blocking etc.

That being said. Most of us have large 4k tvs with great sound systems at this point and get a better over all viewing experience at home now.

Add in the ability to have whatever food/snacks/drinks you want, to snuggle with dates (Alot more), and the ability to pause the movie, or even stop midway and come back later, and yeah....home is just better.

And if you cut out the middle man (the theaters), you could charge less to just stream the movies to everyone anyway. Maybe a bit more then a single person movie ticket, but considering so many people go early or on days with deals etc. You could probably charge something like $15 to see a movie at the same time as release, then drop it down to $7.99 3 months later.

They would probably make more money (the movie makers that is) over all. The theaters would mostly go out of buisiness though sadly.

I'm contemplating trying to rewatch buffy soon, since I have hulu right now.

Saw angel again too recently (few years) even though I prefer that show.

How about watching Supernatural over again from season 1?

Or, if you have not seen it (or want to rewatch it) Red Dwarf:)

Because the best buy website I was looking on that sold the laptop said it did?

It had high specs in everything 12G ram, good I7 processor etc, runs all normal games just fine...just the graphics card won't work with VR....and it's really the company that is selling the products responsibility to know that. What I don't get is it's been years and they STILL have the same thing on the product description!!

Grrrr.

A bit over a year ago I bought this dumb laptop, and it said it was compatible with the Vive and Occulus.

Then I got it home and about 6 months later was ready to buy one finally. I did the tests and nope, it said the graphics card was not good enough. I did some research and....it said ALL laptop graphics cards available at that time where not good enough.

I should have tried to return it then, but there was not really any games out for VR that I wanted at that point, and I had already had it for 6 months.

Now it's a year later and there is a game I want. I could in theory bring my system in and try to get a manager to give me some kind of trade in (Better then the norm which is like $300 for this $1300 system). They said they would work with me.

But instead, I bought a Playstation VR setup today (The Skyrim bundle that is on sale $100 off)...making that the freaking 5th freaking time I have bought Skyrim btw. I used to by new games, but then I took a Skyrim to my knee.

Anyway ........EVENTUALLY.......beat saber will be out for the psvr....but I have to wait....I don't know how long. I hope it's out by my birthday in november at least.

I got a bunch of VR games to tide me over at least......but I really want beat saber sigh. It looks so fun.

Have not wanted to play a game so much in a long time (wouldn't shell out the money for a sytem for one game anymore at this point.....but am basically doing that now).

Great deals on games at best buy right now, I got 7 PSVR games including Doom and Farpoint for $68 after taxes.

Since we are on the subject.

I have, for many years, only bought Nathans or Hebrew National all beef hotdogs.

They are good. I generally would steam them, then fry them a bit in the same pan. Microwave the hot dog buns (so they are soft), and add toppings. Good enough, and very tasty.

Thing is, recently I have been BBQing them over charcole and well......

If the steamed dogs are a 8 in a 1-10 rating, the BBQed ones are a freaking 12....soooo good.

Good enough that people want more hot dogs, instead of more steak (and trust me, my steak is good).

I bought alot, so I am all stocked up, but yeah, bbq'd hot dogs = win.

Saw him live once. Was in the front row, he was.....extremely sexual, and also extremely aggressive to the people in the front row.

He did have pity on me and my wife at least and did not single us out, we obviously did not want that, and had no idea it could happen. I did feel bad for the other people in the first row though.

Doesn't mean he is that way in real life/with his SO etc, but yeah, I could see him possibly being that way based on his performance. His personality was WAY different then on the shows we had seen him in on TV etc.

Was a bit shocking, but fun over all (wouldn't have been so fun if he singled us out though).

Yeah, return her asap, because your other pets may never fully recover, or it'll take awhile. They can start to feel unsafe in your current home, and that is hard to reverse, even if the other pet is gone for along time.

My cat Siren was like that with a roomates dog Bowie, and she basically never came out of my room anymore, even months after Bowie was gone. Some pets are just not good with others and it sounds like this dog is like that.

Things might get better given time between the new dog and Earnie, but once you start off with an attack/run relationship between a dog and a cat, that doesn't change. The cat gets scared of the dog, and that in turn makes the dog want to chase it more. What is worse, is if it happens long enough it might spread to earnie/maxies relationship as well (Maxie will become scared of Earnie and then he will want to chase her etc).

So yeah, seperate the new dog if you can't return it for now (put it in it's own room with water/food) then return it asap.

There are levels.........

Tacos are easier to make and therefore, you can often get a better taco then a burrito.

A good taco can be insanely good, but.....a good burrito.....I dream of the all meat burrito's in Hawyard CA on Tennison ave. It's 900 miles away, but I have considered traveling that far...just for those burritoes.

So yeah....the tacos in mexico where orgasmic, but the burritos.........the best burritos can be ambrosia.

Red robin has insanely cheap burgers if you just want the never ending fries, or mildly expensive ones but are quite good.

They have the small $6 burgers, but, you get unending fries with that, so for $8 or so, a basic double burger (like from In and out...equivalent size) and uneneding steak fries. On a budget that is the most bang for your buck from any burger place other then going through Mc Donalds and just getting a double burger and no fries there (if you add the fries it's the same price).

Meanwhile the Classic is $8 base, but only $2 more for an extra patty (totally worth it. Comes with lettuce and tomatos (and pickles if you want), and you can get A1 sauce + ketchup (or mustard and ketchup, or mayo whatever you like) to put on it.

That is a BIG burger for $10 base...+ tax (11$) + tip (13$ or so total).

Now $13 is more then you will pay many places, but not more then at IHOB probably (at least very close), it's about whatyou would pay at sonic or In and out as well (for a much smaller burger). Carl's Jnr though still beats that price fairly well (Big Burger is now $2 and $1.25 for an extra patty, add $3 for fries and you check out at $7.50 or so....not as good or as many fries though).

In general, if you like steak fries (and if you are not asking them to be extra crispy, you are not getting them at the best, nobody I have shown the extra crispy thing to has ever ordered them normally again), Red Robin is your best value.

Carls Jnr is decent if you don't care about fries as much. If you have a big appetite, you could even get 2 double big burgers and fries and have it delivered (costs $5) for the price of eating at red Robin (not that I have done that a bunch of times or anything.....innocent look).

I use my town to go when I don't do that.....order 3 big burgers (but say the 3rd is to pay for the extra patty on the actual 2 I want ordered), and a large fry. It's $5 for delivery and about 6$ for the food, but I tip as well so it comes out to be $15 or so.....but yumness to my door (red robin also delivers through my town, but the cost is significantly more (The base price of the food is higher when delivered as well as the delivery tip ends up being $25).

The are not Red Robin...which is really the international house of Steak Fries, but whatever.

Red Robin Burger is >>>>>>> * >>>>>> + >>>>>>>> then IHOB burger.....there is probably a red robin in most towns (or close to one) that has an IHOB and.......Red Robin has bottomless steak fries (you can get em extra crispy) AND bottomless root beer floats/strawberry lemonades etc.

Red robin is WORTH going to even if you grill a mean burger. The burgers are good enough (not as good as home, but good enough that you don't mind that much) and the fries are delicious. The prices are not horrific either (under 20$ per person for a good burger/endless fried and a bottomless drink. Under $15 if you just want the burger/fries and water.

Yeah you can make the same thing at home (a 10 pound bag of potatoes is $4), for about 5$ per person (as long as you are making it for 2 or more to split the cost of the potatoes/bag of buns etc).....but it's nice to go out.

I have a double date set up for next Sat at a Red Robin (I didn't choose the location lol).

Had a great time yesterday, we hung out, made BBQ and played DnD all day:)

Was a total awesome day.

We are playing a goblin campaign which is more fun/funnier then normal ones lol. We BBQed hot Worgs and Rat Burgers and continued our partially suicide goblin adventures. I am a goblin bard so I make up songs as I go, and sing them at the worst times (Our thief was sneaking under an overhang while I sang about her antics for instance (so all the fungus/plant creatures heard us approach).

We love jumping down things, even after jumping down a well (well....technically a harpy cut our rope), we still all jumped into this random slide in the under-dark (we want to find a way back up and start selling rides for pickles).

Such a blast of a campaign hehe.

TopicQuit my new job today.
wolfy42
06/08/18 4:14:50 PM

Well, that didn't last long, 2 weeks, but I got my first paycheck today.

I was leaving for work at 1pm and returning after midnight (and in 3 weeks 5 hours of overtime become mandatory). For that, I got.......$300 after taxes....for my first week.

I bounced around trying to figure out a sleep schedule that worked etc, but basically ended up staying up till 3 am or so, and sleeping in till 10-11am. Gave me time to eat dinner when I got home, and settle down (I tried going to sleep earlier but would just toss and turn for hours). That barely gave me time to go to lunch/breakfast before work, hit the store maybe, or do a few things. When another hour was added to each day, it would have been even worse.

I was considering quitting already because the incentive program that actually made it possible to make $70k+ at the job, seemed.....fishy. Nobody new about it, and until yesterday it looked like it had been canceled. I was informed yesterday that it was still in effect!! I was happy, and like ok this is going to work out then.

But....on further review, I realized that if NOBODY knew about the incentive program actually being in effect, it really didn't matter if it was...because nobody was making 3x their base pay from it (if you go from making $300 a week to $900 a week.....I'm pretty sure you will know why.)

I was planing on taking advantage of the incentive program/overtime (unlimited currently) and my...tendency to do extremely well at every job I have ever done), and work a 60 hour week.

Factoring everything in, that would have netted me somewhere between $70k-$100k a year...which made sense to me.

On the other hand the base pay is $12 an hour lol. I would NOT work 60 hour weeks to get $12 an hour and $18 for the last 20. That would be insane. The question was then, should I gamble 3-4 months of my time/effort for the chance to actually make what I can get with other jobs for sure....and for less hours?

The answer was easy at that point. Even as a teacher (which admittingly I do spend over 10 hours a day when teaching...but I also have FAR more days off) I would make $50k + (I get an extra $5k from my masters degree). I can easily qualify for state jobs that pay 90k+ though and are 40 hours straight up, with good benefits etc. Just not exactly the type of job I want.

So blah, but at least I realized it quickly lol. If it hadn't been for nobody knowing about the incentive program, I would have probably spent 3-4 months there before discovering that you really can't make that much and the incentive program is really just a pipe dream.

Now I need to decide what I want to do for work again/look for a job *sigh*.

Almost anyone can become a good cook if they try and cook for many years, I've been cooking almost 40 years, and I am both very picky and love food alot. I will spend hours making food just slightly better then it would have tasted in 30 minutes.

Home made has a few advantages. First, you can afford to use the best ingredients/cuts of meat etc. Even doing so you'll spend WAY less then eating out. Second you actually get to choose the cuts/pieces yourself, when you eat out, it's random what you get, even at the best places. They are making many steaks etc, and can't only have the perfect pieces.

This can make a very large difference on how good a steak is for instance.

Lets take steaks as a very easy example. Any caveman can pretty much learn how to bbq a steak perfectly eventually. This is a very easy way to show the advantages of cooking at home vs eating out.

Buying a steak at a steak house is going to set you back at least $20 in most cases, often times it's that much even for a sirlion steak!! For half the price you could get a Rib Eye for instance, and.....not only that, but pick the rib eye you will be cooking (there can be a huge difference).

Then when you cook at home you can ensure it's the thickness and doneness you like, has the sauce/seasonings you like on it etc.

Even the best steakhouses (Which are very expensive), still are aproximating how you like your steak based on what you said Maybe if you eat there a ton and communicate with the chef he can eventually get it done exactly how you want it.

For breakfast, as an example, I like my hash browns extra crispy. If I order that many places they freaking burn the outside, and sometimes it's not all the way cooked inside as well. I love hash browns and would eat breakfast out way more often if it wasn't so rare to find ANYWHERE that can cook them decently (or doesn't use frozen potatoes etc).

Now don't get me wrong, there are good diners out there and they are gems when you can find them. It's been awhile for me (there is literally not one diner in the olympia area for breakfast that I would eat hash browns at sadly. There is the Bud Bay Cafe for sausages etc, but even they don't do hashbrowns right.

How can so many people mess them up?

I don't know, but if you have had good hash browns, you would certainly have a hard time going back to the norm...which is why I generally make them myself.

I, sadly, have cooked my whole life, and never had anyone cook for me. I also love food. Therefore, I am a very good cook. Even food I don't eat (like eggs) I make extremely well. If you cook something long enough, over and over, and keep improving on it over the years, it becomes very hard to find anywhere that will even approach tasting as good.

My lasagna for instance converts people who don't even like lasagna, and usually leaves them in a stupor from which it is almost impossible to move. Diets do not exist when I make my lasagna, and I can count the number of people who stopped eating after an initial square, ........well I can't count them because it has never happened.

As far as ingredients, you can almost always get better yourself if your willing to pay for it, and sadly most even good places do not spend the money for the quality ingredients. They are out to make a profit, and they do, often charging 20+$ for a steak that would cost $6 at the store. You can spend 12$ for a much better steak and as long as you actually know how to cook it, there is no way a restaurant can compete because you are starting off with better ingredients.

Then there is the time factor. For some of my meals I spend hours making one meal. Not usually for breakfast it's true, but most places can't or won't spend that much time. The best sauces take awhile to create. I love to eat out, and I search far and wide for the best places to eat. When I go on a trip, it's the first thing I research. The only pasta sauces I have ever encountered that would compare to mine are from Itallian grandmothers and that was many many years ago. Pot roasts fall apart (not hard to do, but how often do you get that when eating out), chicken is juicy, falling apart, and delicious (same, half the time it's dry, the better places are not horrid, but yeah try my grey poupon roast chicken sometime and then be happy with rotisserie etc chickens).

For breakfast though it's honestly the ingredients most of the time. Many use frozen potatoes for their hash browns instead of shredding their own, and almost none use good quality sausage (to the point where bud bay near me was noteworthy (I posted on here about it) because they do).

And Bacon....do like 99.5% of all breakfast places use the cheapest bacon or something? I mean seriously. There is a huge difference between thick slices of quality bacon, and the cheap oscar myers crap.

There are places that make good breakfasts though, not chains, which is why I gave them an 8. At home, you can spend the time and make the food exactly how you want it...so you can ensure it's a 10. If you are VERY lucky you can find a breakfast place nearby that hits most of the marks, uses good ingredients, and knows how to cook them. Even so, they will probably only go with pure potatoes in their hash brows (no onions/bell peppers etc), and many will cook with very little or no oil/butter (can still be good, but great hashbrowns are hard to find lately for some reason. Half of the ones that do shred their own, don't know how to cook the hash browns so it's raw or undercooked in the middle and/or burnt on the outside.

I rarely go out for breakfast now, it's fast to make it at home, cheaper, and you know what your gonna get.

OhhhJa posted...
Chewster posted...
but breakfast is the hardest of the three meals to screw up.

Have you ever cooked? Because this really isn't actually true depending on what you're cooking. There are some very easy dinner meals to make whereas good fried eggs require a decent bit of timing and savvy compared to a lot of things I've made for dinner. Spaghetti for instance. Or even steak. Or pretty much any veggies that you just throw in a pot. Or chili. Or burgers. All ridiculously easy to cook. A good omelette? Not as simple

And if something is that easy isn't that even more reason to criticize them for fucking it up? And yes, dennys is seriously awful compared to other diners. And dikitain is right. Denny's will give me bubbleguts and tastes like a fucking dumpster carcass

I don't eat eggs, so it's a bit like a mute person making music, but mine are supposedly extremely good. You just gotta use enough butter in the pan and not cook the eggs too long. I make great breakfast sandwiches as well (with fried ham/bacon and cheddar cheese, after browning the roll in butter as well).

But yeah, some things do take alot of practice to get down exactly right. Waffles as I mentioned above, have a HUGE range, with most places just making pancakes in waffle form (that is not a waffle!!). Sausage btw is mostly based on the ingredients you use, although there are tricks (steam the sausage links first to cook them well, before browning them, causing them to both be fall apart tender, but with a nice char/browning on the outside).

Bacon is also.....strangely, hard for alot of people. I have had so many people mention how good my bacon is, or how I cook it perfectly every time. Never seemed hard for me, but...again...based on the bacon you often get when you eat out, it seems to be a skill that you can lack.

I consider not cooking bacon correctly a crime against nature and it should be punishable by NO MORE BACON FOR YOU FOREVER!!!

Except I don't eat bacon anymore sigh...so I guess I am punishing myself for making too tasty bacon for along time.

And I admit, breakfast isn't my favorite meal of the day, but I do love hash browns/home fries and I like sausage links/patties (if they are good) and of course I used to freaking love bacon before I started trying to eat healthy.

Now, making them at home is obviously the best if your a good cook (and I am), this is especially true for waffles as it's almost impossible to find anywhere that makes even a decently good waffle. Me and my friend perfected the art over a few years and waffles are one of the few things I have had someone else make for more more then a few times (cause my friend had it down!!).

Local places can do the hashbrowns/home fries well, not home level.....but good. They can do egg dishes (I don't eat them), and even make decent pancakes. The sausages/bacon varries from place to place and usually isn't as good as home made (especially the bacon sadly).

Then you drop to IHOP...they do.......ok....with pancakes, their waffles are pathetic, and honestly I think their hash brown are frozen (or at least frozen ones from the store can taste better). It has the same...weirdish aftertaste you get from frozen hash browns at least. Their sausage is also bad enough that I only got them once......although they were still better then Denny's.

Denny's.........some people love this place. Their bacon is......I mean I've liked turkey bacon better, and I don't like turkey bacon. All fat pretty much and usually not even cooked properly.

But that isn't the worst....the worst is their sausage. Unless it's changed ....its actually worse then the $1 a box budget sausage links you can get from the store (banquet? something like that). I get that old people (really old now I guess since I qualify) lose their taste buds, but how anyone else eats that food is beyond me. Worst sausages I have ever had, hashbrowns are better at mc donalds, and I don't even remember the rest of whatever I got.

I'm sure it varies from denny's to dennys but honestly I'm not gonna try a bunch of them to see if one is slightly better. I would pretty much always rather skip a meal then eat at dennys and I would need to skip a bunch of them before I would be happy to eat there.

Ever since Vanilla Sky her smile has always freaked me out.

Used to crack my wife up.

It probably freaked me out a bit before that, but after that I couldn't not see it.

Yeah, sorry, no thanks.

You have something like this:

Home made breakfast 10/10

Local breakfast diner 8/10

IHop 4/10

Denny's 2/10

2 day old canned dog food that has sat in the sun. 1/10

I have actually not tried the dog food, it might be better.

When I lived in Wickenburg AZ there was no air conditioning.

That was along time ago though (in the early 70's)

I would not live like that now.

Topic1M today, or 1k every month for the next thousand months?

Lol......1mill today is better in every way.

1.5% is easy/safe to get for anyone, but you can get much more if your not touching the money for awhile.

Even at 1.5% though 1mill nets you 15k a year easy.

5 year CDs can net you about 3%, which is 30k a year (while still having the full 1 mill as backup).

Of course just investing the money into homes, buying low, selling high, can easily gain you WAY more then 10% a year (Without investing much time at all, especially if you just bankroll someone else and split the profits).

Buying forclosed properties, fixing them up and selling them (flipping them) can often net you a 10-15% profit in only a few months, done multiple times a year, you can end up with very high returns and even splitting that, you can end up with a good 10%+ return rate a year, while doing absolutely no work yourself.

10% per year would give you both the 1 million and 100k a year (instead of only 12k).

Even a simple saving account can net you 15k instead of 12k though, so pretty much any option involving getting the 1 mill now.....is better....unless.....you are having to pay taxes on the initial 1 mill or something (and even then honestly).

I'm related to one, and therefore, yeah, met a ton of em.

Can't go to his house without falling over Stevie Wonder etc.

His recording studio did the latest stuff for Earth Wind and Fire, he did all the music for V.I.P and a buncha movies.

I knew Stacy Fergison (Fergie) as a kid, after she did kids in corporated, and had a few other minor to major celebrities I saw on a regular basis.

So yup, know/knew a ton of em.

Done right, and carefully you could probably stretch it out to almost 6 months depending on where you are. Even in NY you can get places for 400-500 (rooms of course). Other places like here in olympia you can get a place for $300 (two of my friend have that).

Even if he just worked a day a week, or worked online etc, he could probably get at least SOME income as well, and if he is careful with how much he spends, that $3000 could set him up for a year while he gets his feet under him etc.

Living cheap is still very possible, most places. In fact you can often get a place to stay with someone who needs light work/shopping etc done (if he has a car), or a caretaker while someone is at work (babysitter etc), which means all you have to pay for is food (if that).

In generally I believe the minimum you need to live with a roof over your head is about $400 a month, in most areas. You might get by with a bit less, but that will allow you to live fairly normally in most areas. You won't be eating like a king, or eating out at all, but you can eat 3 meals a day, and not starve basically, have internet/entertainment/power at home etc.

He could also be nervous you'll reject him at this point, since he may feel guilty about breaking up with you. I don't know him, and barely know you (like just internet know you lol), so it's pretty much impossible to give good advice, but I do think it's best to focus on yourself right now.

It's great if you have a support system while going through this, but you don't want to complicate things more then necessary either. If he cares for you, I would suggest he just be there for you as a friend for a bit then slowly move into a relationship after you both have some time to regather yourselves.

Makes it much harder that you are living together of course, in such cases you are almost forced to either grow closer, or farther apart. Does sound like he is making moves to grow closer which is good, but...even if you do want that, you might want to seriously sit down with him and talk about the most healthy way for you both to move forward.

Honestly I know you seem ok with it right now, but is he ok with cutting seriously back on how much he drinks, or at least around you, for instance? I don't even know if he drinks but from the sound of the birthday get together the other day, it sounds like he does. He was supportive of you in that situation, but is he willing to support you long term.

I only even suggest having the conversation as he seems to be moving towards a romantic relationship very fast (sorry but hugging you in bed is not a "friend" hug). Normally I'd say just let things settle down and revisit it all in a month or two, if he's not willing to wait that long, then it wasn't going to work anyway.

It's crazy around where I live btw, I have like 8 friends who are desperate to date a woman who actually wants a relationship and not just casual/poly stuff. No clue if it's like that where you are, but there are probably tons of guys that would be very happy to be in a relationship with you and be supportive.

Don't sell yourself short, and don't settle. This isn't all about what he wants or what will make him happy, you are just as important.

They'll have these things called "macrotransactions" where you can exchange your children for in-game loot.

Considering some parents probably spend money that they get from the gov to spend on their children, on microtransactions in games like candy crush, this is already happening.

If your not prepared to take care of a new being, ensure it does not suffer etc, then abort it asap.

Population control should be our primary goal at this point, and any children should be cherished and given a good life.

Imagine if you can, one of todays MMO's, or a game like overwatch, if it was available 15 years ago for everyone.

It would have been insanely popular. Everyone would probably have played it because it would be so ground breaking and better then anything before, and most of those games have nearly endless play potential.

So....what will games be like in 15 years, and what if we could play one of them now?

Post what you think it would be like:)
