You can potentially skip over some of the Sound Spots throughout the game, the second one most notably. You can also get stuck if you don't realize one of the Mr. Saturns is giving you legit progression instructions. Bonus that if you don't talk to him it doesn't work at all.

There are ways unreliable narrator can work when you can hear a character's thoughts, but it almost invariably involves multiple personalities or being upfront about breaking the fourth wall. The stupid thing is that the game sort of sets that up with Ethan in the stupidest way possible, goes nowhere with it because of rewrites, and then doesn't even use it for the character it would have made sense to use it for.

Imagine if someone is standing for the anthem, then very quickly kneels right after, and they have to go to replay to see if it was during the music or not.

Imagine if they properly treat it the same as other pre-snap penalties and interrupt the anthem to assess it.

They used to play it before the players came out onto the field. Honestly, I think that'd be the path of least resistance if they wanted to avoid further PR nightmares.

It was changed to have it occur after the players came out of the locker rooms fairly recently. Mid-2000s IIRC.

If such a big fucking deal hadn't been made about it, I'm sure they would have just quietly gone back to that.
