I'd love to take you up on that offer for BG1 but honestly I have no idea when I'd get around to playing it. I've been sinking into tes oblivion and teso lately and it makes me want to replay morrowind like crazy, and I also want to play Dragon Age and Mass Effect finally (I spent a long time out of gaming, got back into it four years ago and am still playing catch-up). I definitely want to check it out some time though

I know nothing about these genres, and would like to learn.

wikipedia is definitely helpful when it comes to metal genres so you should do some reading. there are more extreme takes on prog metal blended with black or death like opeth, atheist, and enslaved, agalloch (heavily inspired by rush especially early on)
