There was no set scope, and so I was told to learn everything. Naturally, I started from the beginning of the books, trying to thoroughly understand and be able to parrot the knowledge back. Turns out the exam is actually going to be set on the final chapters of the books, not the first ones. In other words, all my studying is now down the toilet, and I'm back to square one.

Guys.... opinion wanted.

I am 26, so is my gf. We have been together since 2009 and we are both in the same boat in life.

She is really pushing hard to have kids, but I don't want to. She knows that we are getting old..

The main reason I don't want kids, is the fact that I don't consider myself an adult yet. In other words, I want to have a steady career, place to live, etc. before taking on the challenge of raising a child.

Aside from that, deep down, I am just not a fan of this world. Why bring another person into it only so that it can suffer the game of life?

Anyways... if I were to have a child, I would do it before 30.

i think it is a smart move to wait until you're stable before you have kids, that is kind of common sense to me tbh.

This is why:

1) Population is skyrocketing
2) With technological advancement and corporations getting bigger than most governments, they find it increasingly easier to shift all jobs to the newest 3rd world shithole du jour to exploit those people
3) Automation will take away many jobs and create a few new jobs that will be more competed for and harder to qualify for
4) Politicians have distracted us from the automation issue because they don't want to address it because corporations fill their pockets
5) things that our ancestors had for granted, such as pensions, retirement, job security, etc are now a thing of the past
6) college prices are skyrocketing
7) getting a college degree doesn't necessarily mean you will get a good job anymore. So now ypu're n debt AND jobless
8) with technological advancement and globalization students from all over the country and all over the world compete for college and university acceptance. At some point a 4.0 GPA with no "interesting extra curriculars" will mean burger flipping, only that a robot flips the burgers so not even that
9) wages have fallen so now you need dual income
10) dual income means kids need to go to day care
11) day care is as expensive as a private school

Who would bring a child to this world when the above will take place and it will be worse and worse? Sure, you may think your child will be a 4.0 GPA guy/gal who volunteered to save stray dogs and homeless people, got a karate black belt and was a community organizer for his district, therefore he/she will get an ivy league PhD (which will be the new bachelor's in the future) so he can be middle class (what, you thought I'd say rich? LMAO NO) and afford to send his one kid to day care after getting in heavy debt for it. But I am not sure that is a good life to live, where kids are no longer kids, where parents can't sleep sure that they will be able to provide for their kids tomorrow and that the world won't be a horrible place to grow up at.

Thanks for the input fam. Honestly I loved engineering back in school but IRL it's boring af, maybe because the work I do barely qualifies as it. I took this job and am called a "manager" but I'm more of a project expeditor. Regardless I did some studying for the PMP test and I fell in love with it so I think it's worth pursuing.

yea PM is great, I work with PMs sometimes and I find what they do to be fascinating. i feel like at a certain point you'd hit a wall with engineering in terms of compensation and seniority, so getting more into the management thing would help keep that career momentum going (or at least that's what my father said when he pivoted into management, and now he does very well).

so this is based on nothing but my own hot takes & observations of my dad's career (who was an engineer). hopefully you get someone with real life experience to respond to this post:

if your goal is to cash checks & break necks, get ass, drive a range rover, etc id imagine you will probably have to move out of strictly engineering and into mgmt at a certain point.

project management seems great and it's one of my future career goals as well. you have PM experience so you could probably qualify for the PMP test, you get that going and you're easily making 6 figures drawing RACI matrices on construction paper while the engineer grunts do all the real work. then you get to have your little lessons learned meeting afterwards where you pat yourself on the back.

so i guess that really depends on how much you like engineering vs the concept of engineering. i think my dad started to burn out on the work and wanted to get into management in his 40s, now he's an executive and likes it a lot.

fuck trades, it's an internet meme (to an extent) imo. i dont believe they're some secret source of unlimited 6 figure salaries that reddit plays them up to be. i have heard that you dont even make much money until you're a master at whatever you're doing and even then, you have to make sure you have hookups to get into unions and all that.

but that's just my hot take. what i do know is that you dont want to be doing physical labor into your 40s and 50s. you dont want to fuck up your back at age 40 because you picked up a box wrong and spend the rest of your life on fentanyl and workers comp

these two jobs are sales analyst positions. been applying for Sales Analyst jobs lately, seems to be doing fairly well for me because it meshes well with my current experience for the sales part & my IT background for the data part

Don't do it.

If you calculate the cost of driving at 30 cents a mile it comes out to a roughly $9,000 cost. Then factor in the added time to your work week and calculate your pay per hour of work (including commute).

It's only worth it if you plan on hopping immediately after and leap frogging your salary jumps.

Yeah if you're single and not making your SO drive 60 miles back to your original town, if you plan on sticking with it it wouldn't be a terrible idea to move there or at least closer.

i am married, probably wouldnt move up to where the job is because i hate north jersey but if i stick with this company & try to move up the ladder a bit i'd be much more inclined to move closer in the future
