Right? The whole thing about Rockstar games and MTX is just one huge circlejerk.

If you ever want to keep up with everyone else in public lobbies you either have to buy shark cards or sacrifice your time to grinding and grinding and grinding because the mission payouts are so little which is obviously intentional to get you to buy cards. When everyone else has explosive snipers and the latest super tough vehicles and you don't you're going to get your ass kicked.

I sort of quit GTAO, but I've left earning $42.8 million. No shark cards ever purchased. I did grind for it, but like most online games you DO need to spend a lot of time being successful at it.

All RDR2 needs to do is continue their MTX bullshit in online mode but keep singleplayer mtx-free. That is the best compromise.

It's not exclusive to Western games, either. I took a whole class on how Hollywood has rehashed the thesis over and over. There are countless examples of non-Westerns that have embraced it, such as Avatar, Full Metal Jacket, or Deliverance.

I assume you are Canadian, then, because First Nations only applies to aboriginal people north of the border, and it doesn't include all aboriginal groups.

I am. Sorry. "Political correctness" and all. Yeah, First Nations generally refers to Native/ aboriginal/ indigenous Canadians. I don't use the word "Indian" because it's the most hilarious stupid term that people keep using (even worse with the South Asian minority in BC). "Native Americans" also has its own set of problems.

Wow this topic sucks ass.

Let's just pack this up. I'm planning to read Patricia Limerick's Legacy of Conquest for Red Dead Redemption 2. I'm a history undergrad, so this sort of stuff fascinates me. Although Rockstar games haven never been about historical accuracy, I do appreciate their penchant for social commentary of American society, life and tradition. With the "Wild" or "Old West" being so strangely ingrained into American identity, it'll be interesting to experience a video game on a much nuanced level. Will Rockstar explore deep into historical facts? Or will it be pulp fiction of the Sergio Leone type? Rockstar's RDR seems to glorify and romanticize the Old West, and in fact seems to take much from Frederick Turner Bull's "Frontier Thesis."

The original RDR never really dug deep into historical accuracy, but careful examination of dialogue seem to say a striking deal about democracy and liberty--two important American ideals. I really hope to see more First Nations groups in the game. To me, the Wild West is very much about these groups as much as it is about White Americans, and Westward expansion.

It's a solid 9/10 game despite lots of flaws. It's largely the result of a full, complete product featuring lots of content, a quality narrative, cast of side characters, soundtrack and combat that comes together in fine fashion.

There ARE some issues with the game, despite the game's merits. For example, the camera angle is poor; boss fights are lackluster; GOW suffers from lack of enemy and boss variety; and the climbing parts are dull as fuck (which is part of the greater problem of restrictive movement). I also don't think Atreus and Kratos are as good as a duo as Joel and Ellie either (GOW is usually compared to TLOU btw).

all I know about changes with DQXI are 1) addition of voice acting, English only of course since Japanese voice acting never existed and 2) menu overhaul similar to the one VIII got on PS2, which considering how out of place it is with the uniform style of menus in the series otherwise, or how the fancier more visual menus actually slowed down the gameplay a lot in VIII on the PS2, I can understand being bothered by them doing it again

maybe they cheaper out on the soundtrack again and only licensed the MIDI versions instead of the orchestral ones or something but I don't know if XI had an orchestral soundtrack anyways

Some dude was complaining about the new run feature and how it was catering to Westerners. Then he said that the first-person view was dumb and unneeded. Said something about Westerners liking FPS games.

Obv. a one off, but I've seen this Us vs. Them mentality in anime circles before. As far conservatism and narrow-mindedness in JRPGs go, I think a lot of them see it as a dying genre so they're weirdly fierce about keeping things like it "used to be."

Every season has its beauty.

For me: Winter, Autumn and Summer are tied, but spring is last because there's just not enough going on for it. The transitional period between Winter and Summer is pretty boring.

Summer is hot, but you can do plenty out-door activities: hiking, swimming, kayaking, camping, visiting faraway tourist locales. People also dress more liberally. Skirts and blouses, sundresses and bikinis. Shorts for men, and a plain t-shirt. Certain fruits become in "season", and ice cold drinks become an obsession. Picnics and barbecues become commonplace.

Winter is cold and thus spending time inside is usually the way to go. Even then, walking outside and soaking in the atmosphere always makes me happy. Because Christmas is a huge part of what makes winter special, I would attribute a good deal of the winter magic because of Christmas. Ideally, staying inside in a blizzard, with some hot chocolate, playing board-games with friends and family is about as great as doing anything else. The lights are especially unique during this time, and many wear snazzy coats and scarves and the like.

I dunno, maybe I'm just a romantic.
