it's been so long but I seem to recall that just moving around the world of Symphonia felt fresh and exciting. it's too bad that the dungeons come and fuck you in the face towards the back half because it really did have something going for it, even if the characters were kinda brutal in that Tales way and its main plot was biting a little too much from FFX. I won't be playing that game again.

although.. I don't think I would call on Forest of Illusion as the best part of Mario World. it's the right balance of difficulty but the maze-y aspect of it kind of ruins it a little bit. also that water level takes forever and you have to do it twice!

like, Mario 3 and Mario World are both totally competent, unflawed games. I like them a decent amount, especially Mario World which is a top 100 staple for me. I just don't think I can say there's any one level that I thought was especially interesting. what's your favourite Mario World level? is there one part that's just like 'yep, that's the greatest thing ever.'

I get that way with n++ because I just love the movement and the nuance. 2d Mario is very straightforward. I can see 3d Mario being that for someone - I'm just not that into the traversal in those games outside of Odyssey.

I don't know about round 1 or round 3 but it's tough to argue for anyone other than Toronto right now. I could see Boston and Cleveland both losing in round 1.
