I don't even fucking use it in vol. 1 now with the faster walking speed they added in the remasters. Just drove into a wall for an hour to get the book of Ryu up to level 3 and never touched it again.

And the first 4 had better characters/story, but dude, the gameplay was fucking atrocious. G.U. isn't as good either (woopee, 3 different areas), but at least you don't feel like ripping your hair out in combat over how utterly boring it is.

I can agree that the combat in GU is a lot more involved and far less tedious, but even so I have to say that overall when I'm in in areas, it just seems boring.

At least in the first chapter, GU hardly has any variety in either enemies or scenery -- you've got cave dungeons, you've got building dungeons, and then you've got the field dungeons (which are either night, day or raining) -- with very little decorating any of them.

In the first four you had big open fields with structures and points of interest, and monsters would actually wander around the map looking for you. You had ponds where you could upgrade equipment, whacky talking food, etc. You also had a lot more variety in scenery -- grass fields, forests, volcanic, ice plains, deserts. And each field had its own dungeon, which also had more variety.

It also helped that the soundtrack was fantastic, and just worked so well with the combat and scenery.

Yeah, fucking Haseo is edgelord supreme and Atoli's whole "pls notice me senpai" bullshit at the end of the first chapter is just bleh.

I love the games, but yeah, story is definitely not its strong suit.

Really wish they'd do a remaster of the first 4 -- I like them a lot better.

Yeah I think so too, especially given the fact that with PS1 and PS2 games combined you have massive, and solid library full of classics and hidden gems.
