Lorenzo_2003

There seems to be a misunderstanding here. Yes, Quentin Tarantino is a scumbag for pressuring his actress to do a scene she wasnt comfortable with. No, we are not entirely sympathetic to said actress because the decision was ultimately hers to make.

If you have ever worked, you know there are always going to be risks at a job site. Some risks carry more severe consequences than others. Its up to you, as an employee, to decide if that risk is worth whatever you are being paid or whatever the other benefits are of going through with your choice. This is the basics of risk-rewards analysis, and it is not limited to physical risks and financial rewards.

That only worked because (one) it was played for laughs as a joke and (two) Marty didnt invent that particular rock and roll sound; he learned it in his own timeline then used it where (and when) other people wouldnt know the difference. Marty did the same thing earlier when he disguised himself and said he was Darth Vader from the planet Vulcan.

Yes, Wakanda is ultra-nationalistic and isolationist. They literally hide their location from the rest of the world, to the point that most people think it's a myth. And of course they've got all that sweet vibranium and high-tech advancements, but don't want to share it with other countries. That's privilege on a massive scale. But that is Ok. Wakanda is a sovereign nation and Black Panther is a sovereign ruler. If Wakanda was a real place and its citizens wanted to be left alone, then I would support that.

Banning such an item might be Ok if you can prove that this negitive outcome actually exists. Right now, I think most people are just offering their emotional reactions (e.g. disgust) as proof. But we need more than that, if you want the government to start telling businesses what they can or can't sell to willing customers.

Regarding Black History Month, it can be very good for students. I've seen speakers teach about the meaning of old negro spirituals and the kids even learned to sing them! Of course there are a lot of other things to learn about, so it doesn't have to be just a specific month.

Right, and I think thats a perfectly normal response. I feel (or did feel) the same, but the more I contemplate it, the more I keep coming back to one unarguable fact: a doll that looks like a child, a man, a woman, an animal or anything else is still an artificial object that is not actually the thing that it looks like. I mean we (gamers at least) get angry at critics of video games who cant seem to tell the difference between a game character and a real life child or a real life adult, yet here we are with dolls, just assuming that an inanimate object should be viewed with disgust or outrage. It seems we might not be able to distinguish what is fantasy from reality, as well.

Read my post again but really pay attention to the words I used and the comparisons I brought up. It gets old seeing people say "so what you're saying is..." And then go on to say something that isn't even close to what I actually said.

Youre full of shit. You took a swipe at conservatives for whatever reason and then added in that liberals love America, while claiming that people need to pretend the nation and its history is perfect. No one fucking believes that. You used the words perfect and never did anything wrong. There are all kinds of historical events, both big and small, that both conservatives and liberals acknowledge as being damaging, bloody and unfortunate. Conservatives dont pretend or expect you to pretend that slavery never happened, for example. They dont pretend native tribes werent massacred or relocated. They dont pretend that civilians havent been killed in Afghanistan and other locations. What you will definitely see is conservatives (and liberals) arguing about what to do about it now, as in after the fact. What you will also see is voters arguing whether or not there was a better, more right way that things should have been handled. If youre afraid of having your views being misrepresented, then do us a favor and dont misrepresent other peoples views as well.

Wait, you think conservatives believe the US is perfect and that they never did anything wrong? Thats dishonest. For sure, conservatives in general are nationalistic and like to think of their values as being ideal. But perfect? I think you might be thinking of some fringe element. And theres no way of avoiding Americas imperfect, brutal history because it constantly shows up in school lessons, documentaries, political speeches, etc. One could argue that maybe there should be even more emphasis placed on acknowledging these missteps, but to say conservatives think America is perfect and never did anything wrong in history is ridiculous.

Ok, i can see that point. So what the fuck is the problem? Why is there a pushback and shaming, regarding these dolls? If its really a win-win, then why isnt everyone (i.e. men and women, gay or straight) pushing for more and more of these products to be sold and accepted by the mainstream?

You might want to rethink that analogy.

A lot, if not all, private businesses will fire your ass pretty quick or reprimand you if you are their employee and you decide to argue politics, take a controversial political stance or similar while you are working at their job site. Hell, a lot of CEmen take it a step further and advocate punishing employees even if they did it on their personal time away from work, such as at home or just posting on Facebook, Twitter, etc. Putting aside the business angle, try pushing a vocal political agenda at work while you are a government employee outside of actual political office. It's not going to go well.
