There were so many things needlessly plucked from the OT and poorly implemented in the prequels.

It's poetry they rhyme

History repeating itself is something Star Wars does. That's why it's happening again in the sequels. It's also because these are the first new Star Wars movies we're getting, so they have to retread stuff to get people back into the groove.

Once this sequel trilogy is over I expect we'll start seeing crazier things. Can't wait to see what Rian Johnson's other trilogy will be.

Honestly even after I saw it the first time, I thought some things were weird but I still loved it overall. And those things that bothered me actually became my favorite aspects of the movie after thinking about it and seeing it four more times.

For instance, I thought it was weird Rey's parents were nobody because I expected her to be a Skywalker. I was a bit sad there was no big lightsaber duel. I was hoping Luke would show off his immense Force power against the First Order. Some other little things probably, so yeah even I had little expectations that weren't met, but I didn't let them bring the movie down. I accepted that those things didn't happen, and I'm actually really happy they didn't. Because then I would have predicted everything and that's boring.

This movie caught me off guard at almost every turn and that's what I loved so much. Movies don't do that anymore. Especially not big blockbusters like this. I can't remember the last time a Marvel movie ever "shocked" me. I don't think that's ever happened actually, although it doesn't help that I have extensive knowledge of the comics but even so they could at least try to add some twists.

Well, most people did. Even here on this board we had more people that liked it than didn't. It's just the people that do like something don't have a lot to say, because it's just "I liked this part and this part and yadda yadda". There's only so much we can say about something we like.

But when someone hates something, they can go on for hours about what they didn't like. That makes it seem there's more hate toward the movie than there really is.

Most of us don't try to involve ourselves in the arguments because it's pointless. It's almost impossible to convince someone to change their opinion, especially if it's negative so we just don't bother...

Which is why I'm gonna stop bothering with this lol

Haters have a tendency to go overboard and voice their negative opinions a lot more loudly. Most of the people I talk to in real life loved the movie and I just pretend the people who hate it are a vocal minority.

And most of that "disappointment" is again, babies not getting their way. There are some legitimate criticisms, but basically none of the complaints fall into that category.

This is what aggravates me about the complainers, because the movie blatantly shows you that it's just a fleeting impulse. He doesn't even contemplate it. He regrets it immediately.

Also it's not a children's movie, it's an everybody movie. Star Wars is made for everyone. Not you, not me, not the nerds, not the kids, not the niche group of people who just want dark and gritty things. It has to appeal to the widest audience possible. So you can complain all you want that you didn't get your way, but everyone else did.

There's a very clear shot of Luke's hand when he "loses" that, to me, says he was prepared to bust out the Force to stop her if she was going to kill him, but he saw she wasn't so he held back.

It was showing him using the Force to cushion his fall, but you could still interpret that he was ready to defend himself. I like that.

I bought it when it was released, but I was still playing Dark Souls 3 and the controls being all different through me off so bad. Now I think I can get used to the default controls since I haven't played DS in a while soooo let's go

Actually played a decent amount before, got to... somewhere. Starting a new game though, beat the tutorial area. Picked swords and dual swords and more swords because I love swords. Also sharks.

Any tips? I'm a skilled Dark Souls player but there's enough differences in this game that I am sorely lacking in the getting gud department. It's even a steeper learning curve with the different stances and combos and oh so many options.

What?! People complain about Rey vs Luke? Well that shouldn't be surprising actually, but my god.

And that was an extremely out of practice Luke as well. He had just reconnected himself to the Force prior to their little skirmish and he still had no problem disarming her with a damn lightning antenna.

Unless you watch the show (which I assume a lot of kids do), where they are fleshed out immensely. I actually enjoyed that a lot, but still... they never should have been good guys in the first place.

In fact, the storyline of Malak and Revan breaking off to fight in the Mandalorian Wars should have been how they handled Obi-Wan and Anakin going off to fight in the Clone Wars. That these two Jedi (and maybe a handful of others) broke away from the Order to fight in these wars, against the wishes of the Jedi Council. And that would actually be more interesting than "we now have an army and all the Jedi are generals by default."

We could go on for hours about how to make the prequels good.

Like how the clones shouldn't have just been regular soldiers, they should have been the enemy or something more interesting.

I'm super happy that Disney got the rights to Star Wars, I was happy about it from the start. I don't think there will ever be too much Star Wars for me, like seriously. There's sooo much to explore in that universe, and I simply love being a part of it.

The point wasn't to save him, he was too far gone. Rey was misguided in thinking she could turn him, he was set on destroying the past. He only saved Rey because he believed he could turn her to his side, and took the opportunity to dispose of his true enemy. Which is what Sith have always done, kill your master and take their place.

Luke's mission was to renew the spark of hope by facing down the First Order. Restoring the legend restored hope. The Rebellion has been reborn. All that jazz.

Rey and Leia walking out to meet him wouldn't have changed anything either. Kylo tells Luke he'll destroy the girl as well, he doesn't care anymore.

Uh, what? Kylo Ren was clearly not going to come back over to the light, Luke tells Leia he can't save him. Because he can't. Just the sight of Luke's image is enough to send Kylo spiraling further into darkness. You can see his face getting more distorted at the end because of the dark side swelling up in him. I'm thinking he might have the yellow eyes in the next movie.

I mean, Kylo Ren was so blinded by his rage he didn't even realize Luke was using the lightsaber that he just destroyed 20 minutes ago. There was nothing Luke could have said to make things better.

So something about Luke, specifically to the people that thought he was "out of character" or whatever in TLJ, did those people watch Return of the Jedi? He literally force chokes gamorrean guards, wears solid black to symbolize that he's on the edge of the dark side the entire film, and the only reason he beats Vader is by unleashing his rage.

Like yeah, he chose the light at the end, but he was never infallible.

Revenge of the Sith did have a great soundtrack, that is true. I would need to listen to the newer music more to form my own opinion, but so far I like what I've heard. I think they're going for more new mixed with old, which I enjoy. The iconic stuff is still in there, like when the Millennium Falcon was flying through the salt mines and the asteroid field music from Empire kicks in, love that part.

The Arena is actually one of my favorite tracks though
