A lot of Vinesauce stuff. The moments that occur to me at the moment are:

- LotR-based text game. Joel(as Sam) gets Frodo high on pipe-weed, then bashes his brains out because he's 'hogging the bong'.

- Link: The Faces of Evil. Joel spends like 40 minutes grinding for snowballs and fireballs and dying a zillion times to scale a waterfall stage. His reward at the end: A life upgrade. He cries in joy... then jumps off a cliff to commit suicide by mistake(and screams; mood whiplash lol) and has to start all over again.

- Shadow President. Joel nukes Norway for no reason, calls his cabinet pussies when they all resign in protest, then gets shot in his office.

Is it simply because they're the team based closest to England? Or because of Brady? Or are they all just closet history masochists?

Anyway, so now TC's on to Inquisition. Guess it's time for me to sign off on following the topic(s) since I haven't played that one.

Couldn't play it because the darn game is in Japanese despite buying an American one.

Apparently, region-lock bypassing be damned, it will be in Japanese if played on a Japanese GC and English for American GCs.

With the GC-compatibility on my Wii being borked, I'll have to import a new GC just to play it. That'll gradually have to happen since my old AR is nearing the end of its life which means no TTYD, FE: PoR, etc. as well. But that'll have to wait.

Yeah, I agree.

Doesn't have to be some major boss. Just some weirdo who pops up without warning and never gets mentioned again. Like Punchinello in Moleville Mines.

Hell, Moleville reminds me, it could've just been Croco Round 3 with him having the weird idea to somehow steal people's wishes for a profit(freely rationalize/imagine however that works). Give him further buffed stats and maybe let him (repeatedly) summon some of his Bandit cronies as backup. It'd make sense considering there's a way too long interval between your second fight with him in Moleville, and your next encounter which is way, way later in Nimbus Land after you defeat Valentina.

Just a tip because it seems you don't know, gifts work to amplify the character's current disposition in this game.

So, if Merrill was closer to friendship, you get friendship. Closer to rivalry, you get rivalry.

Looks like she had more red than blue in the first place, nothing wrong with the gift or anything.

I wouldn't hate the idea so much if they didn't choose the entirely wrong character to execute it.

I still say the one to get possessed by Justice should have been Velanna, not Anders. Same amount of bull**** retconning required, better reason due to more compatible personality, would be less opposed to spirit possession, etc.

Anders was a decent, likable character in Awakening. 2 ruined him completely by making him act directly counter to his established personality, even pre-possession, which can't simply be justified by 'oh but Justice talked to him, made him change his opinions!'. That's a dumb excuse, not a proper justification.

in my opinion, shouldn't have bought 2 in the first place

Honestly, though, I remember enjoying the game quite a lot until the conclusion of Act 2.

But Act 3 quickly made me sick of the game. I don't know what prompted it. Likely candidate reasons are:

- Bad/lackluster story, worse than the earlier acts
- Goddamn dungeon recycles FINALLY got to me. And this coming from a guy who didn't mind Mass Effect 1's recycles at all. This game went way too far.
- Combat got a lot more unfun, IIRC. Not hard, unfun. No risks of dying at all, but even the lowlier mooks took way too much time to kill around this point I believe. Must have to do with levels or such, I guess.
- My (bad) tendency to get bored with games at around the 80-85% completion mark.
- Some combination of the above?
- Something else I'm forgetting at the moment?

Saving graces were the DLC missions I saved to this point, and staring at Merrill and the spiffy outfit I got her for the romance. But I have to admit, at the final stages with all the DLC done, I was kind of forcing myself along to beat it and be done with it. Couldn't just blitz to the final mission because I'm OCD like that and have to leave nothing incomplete. Became somewhat of a chore.

There's a reason I haven't replayed this game, despite writing up a plan for a second playthrough because I beat Origins many times for all the different imports. Despite loving Origins and Dragon Age lore enough to beat it that many times, I find me stopping myself before tackling this game again. And I'm a guy who beat the ME trilogy from first game to third, what, 7 or 8 times now? Including a binge when I went back-to-back immediately?

The 'sick' factor has mostly subsided by now, so maybe I WILL replay this sometime. Only to most likely remind myself of why I got sick of it again, yeah, sure. But, well, gotta play Inquisition sometime too(for the first time) so maybe I should refresh my memory.

Rivalry > Friendship for companions.

FACT.

Actually... that might be debatable, don't you think? I think I recall that mechanics-wise, only Fenris and Sebastian are worth going Rivalry than Friendship as Friendship bonuses were generally superior, and your sibling doesn't matter at all here.

Personality-wise... you can't really go through Rivalry with some characters because that requires you to act an a****** purely for the sake of being an a******, like Aveline and Varric as already mentioned. Really, the only companion who begs for Rivalry by being an ass first is Carver(though I persevered and ended up getting max Friendship with Carver anyway. Boy's got issues, shouldn't blame him).

Any worthwhile DLC for 2?

Depends on what you would deem 'worthwhile'.

Exiled Prince is equivalent to Stone Prisoner in that it adds a new teammate for you, but besides the character it doesn't give you bonus missions like you had Shale's recruitment quest and personal history quest. It just... throws the character in, I guess, making him interact with you for some time to set up his personality before letting him join you? He might be better integrated into the game than Zaeed or Kasumi in Mass Effect 2 IMO, though not available from the get-go like those two.

Legacy gives you a long bonus quest where you learn more about Hawke's origins, his dad, darkspawn and the Grey Wardens. If you liked Origins's lore and/or are going to play Inquisition after this, might as well play it, you'll have fun in case of the former, and it would enrich the latter's experience somewhat.

Mark of the Assassin gives you a long bonus quest as well, plus a temporary teammate that you're forced to use only for said DLC's missions. If you like Orlais and/or the Qunari, then I guess you might have fun with this one. I seem to recall the DLC being very entertaining in terms of dialogue, though that might have to do with the fact that I was playing a humorous/snarky Hawke.

Black Emporium doesn't really have a DA: O equivalent, being a shop DLC that lets you buy various stuff that wasn't available before. It's somewhat nifty.

Back to business.

This DLC just doesn't seem as gripping as Awakening.

I'm 20 minutes in, but still.

The only 'exciting' bit happens when you try to fight the boss at high difficulty. Apart from that part, it mostly feels like a slog. And a maze, too, since you're juggling different dimensions all the time and thus backtracking over the same places several times, just with different colors.

And nothing carries over, either. Just levels/stats/money/items and achievements, and for the former, you can only transfer them to Witch Hunt, no more. The bonuses for the achievements only kick in when you start a brand new file after getting them, and they don't require you to go through the DLC again once you've gotten them for the first time, either. As for transferring save files, literally nothing you've done in the DLC is recognized or mentioned in DA2.

And there's no really important lore that gets referenced later, either(apart from the spoilery bit I wrote in #307, which actually happens regardless of whether you've ported Golems of Amgarrak data or not).

So... yeah. Bleh.

After the very first time, when I play now I just skip this DLC outright and import directly to Witch Hunt after beating Awakening. It's not that fun, honestly.

I mean if anything don't you stop getting xp from low level stuff to prevent that kind of thing?

Uh, I don't think so.

Isn't there some weirdo user who reached max level in the game without doing a single quest nor stepping outside of the tutorial areas?

I have no idea what this DLC even is.

A headache, that's what she is.

Just don't forget to raise the difficulty to Hard or Nightmare before you tackle the boss of the DLC. Might as well get all the achievements if you're going to play it(and go through the hardest boss fight in the entire game, all DLCs included).

Yeah, well, that was the whole point of that DLC so can't really complain tbh, it doesn't add anything to the lore anywayexcept for something which gets hilariously misused by the writers in the sequel.

i don't remember enough of the Golems DLC. what piece of lore are you talking about here?

The Harvester.

Golems of Amgarrak DLC:
"OK so there's this huge golem made of flesh, see? These dwarves made it by accident when they were trying to duplicate the work of that guy who first made golems because he disappeared while taking away the vital ingredient, the Anvil thingamajig, and without telling his secrets, see? So these smiths tried to make a golem of their own with a whole lot of trial-and-error, failures, and tons of lyrium, but for some reason the result, instead of preserving the ingredient dwarf's mind ended up preserving his flesh, see? So this new prototype golem was mindless, so they went and tried to put demons into the thing to make it move because of course that's a fantastic idea, see? Not surprisingly the thing went completely berserk and rampaged all over the area killing hundreds of innocents, so the ancient dwarves had to bury their failed project with yet more lyrium and weird dimensional magic, alongside the entire underground city the dwarves first tried this experiment, see? And because of the shame of having wrought this catastrophe, they erased all records pertaining to the event and pretended that the abandoned city was simply yet another darkspawn casualty all this time, see?"

Dragon Age 2:
"Lolnope I'll just transform into one of them Harvesters. What do you mean this is a forgotten piece of dwarven history they buried themselves in shame? Making this thing's as easy as pie! All you need is a wee bit of blood magic and some dead bodies! Now, excuse me while I lash out with this newfound power and try to kill the very allies who were the very last to keep fighting alongside me, helping my fellow mages, because screw that, let's kill everything, whee!"

the Golems dlc is hard as fuck

At least, you get a ridiculous bit of gold bullion for every future playthrough of the game if you complete the hardest challenge/achievement that DLC offers, so you can break/cheese the game when you play it again, I guess? Would you call that value?
