Eternity #2 came out today.

I legit didn't expect to care about this book but picked it up on a whim and I am into it. Divinity is a pretty cool character(s) as is, and it does a solid job of getting me to care about a sci-fi world when I usually can either take or leave them. I'm hoping it is tied into the universe at large, but if not I can enjoy it as a dope little space romp.

Yeah, I had a really stinky gel that would temporarily help and just generally tried to stay off of it in the same way. I broke my foot at one point when it was already really bad, and I spent three days unable to do anything about it while it hurt constantly because I couldn't stand and sitting in most positions was difficult because I couldn't put any weight on my foot. I also have/had a really physical job which didn't help at all.

The only solution was pain killers (just really strong ibuprofen) and doing less to agitate it in the daytime. Same job, so I switched exercise. If/when I run (for exercise) I can feel it begin to relapse though it would probably take a few days to be as bad as it was or bad enough to affect quality of life.

I've had a right groin/thigh injury (hip adductor) for over a month now that seemed to come from nowhere and can't even be rested because it gets aggravated by sneezing, coughing, laughing and simply lying down and then changing position or attempting to sit back up.

I had the same thing! Or at least something similar. It's why I started swimming instead of more aggressive cardio.

I only managed with getting some pills from the doc. It still flares up every now and then but I'm past it.

Recent/Weekly Reads List

Maestros
Only at #2, but goddamn this is really fun. For those who don't know, it's about a kid who is like the 895th child of the Wizard king, but because his parents were divorced and he was on Earth he is not involved when someone kills the entire royal family. So, he's the new king. He may or may not be a really good wizard on his own. It's got dick jokes, talking swords, violence for days, and a political intrigue.

Realm
Only at #3, it's off to a solid start and has some interesting characters. It is basically "what if D&D merged with the real world in like 2012". There's clearly some mysterious buildup happening, but it's basically about a guy and his group of mercenaries on some sort of quest. Presumably the two stories will converge pretty soon. The pace is a little slow, but not the "god I wish something would happen" slow, just setting up character relationships and world building, stuff like that. There is always an orc fight or two. Also, the orcs aren't just big dumb brutes which is nice.

Bloodshot Salvation
Lemire is a great writer and his Bloodshot is really good. Through his last series he actually gave the fairly stagnant character Bloodshot and given him an actual arc, and this is a follow up. It is a little reliant on knowledge of Bloodshot Reborn, but I didn't finish it yet and it's pretty understandable to me.

Harbinger Renegade
Harbinger was an excellent book. This is a great follow up. The last two issues or so have been a little disjointed because they are clearly building up to Harbinger Wars 2 and it appears to be complicated. Nonetheless, it is clear that the stakes are high and only getting higher, and the setup issues of the last couple months make it clear that the payoff should be really satisfying.

The Family Trade
Steampunk world, underworld family, fledgling thief/assassin begins the Family Trade. It is solid, but needs a little bit of a punch. The art gives everyone super rosy cheeks which bugs me a little,

Black Panther
This issue was supposed to be about Klaw and he was only mentioned on like three pages! Besides that, I continue to like this book despite it being really slow compared to basically any other superhero book on the market. I think it takes a certain kind of person to enjoy it though, especially if you prefer your capes to come with punching.

Generation X
This book is interesting because it made me care about six characters I basically had no information about before reading it, and now I am into the high school drama of a bunch of hormonal superpowered kids. Plus Chamber is here, and Chamber is the best. The art has a rotating team so some issues are better than others. I think the last few issues have been better than the first ones, so it is improving over time.

It's not even a changing of the definition. It's an academic use versus a colloquial one. This is some "evolution is just a theory" level bullshit.

The most common way of differentiating the two is referring to systems-based oppression as racism and individual acts as prejudice. Obviously, any person is capable of acts of prejudice, and it is likely that literally no one has ever claimed otherwise. When they are talking about "racism," however, they are not speaking about individuals or individual acts.

You know this, and are intentionally muddying the usage of the word because it suits your purposes. Because you know this and are intentionally muddying the issue, even now claiming I said things I never said (just as you claim they said things they did not say), makes it obvious that you are a liar. An honest man could, at the very least, acknowledge the distinction and still disagree, but you're not even decent enough to do that. In fact, as Kenri points out above, what they are saying (in the proper context) isn't even true. Wow, that was easy.

Institutional racism can still exist and Asian/Middle Eastern/Hispanic individuals can still be anti-Black. Just because sociology professors use one definition of racism in their writings, it doesnt make other usages of the word that predate that definition obsolete.

No one has said (or implied) otherwise. But there is a very clear demarcation between what the aforementioned group was talking about and the colloquial racism that Corrik was referring to, but he was intentionally conflating the two things because it is in his interest to "disprove" it. It's a strawman, and an obvious one. You can let him get away with it if you'd like, but it's my goal to educate (and while he is not interested in learning, perhaps someone else is).

I honestly think Suicide Squad might be the legit worst movie of all time.

Not because it is objectively worse than something like Manos: Hands of Fate that makes it to Mystery Science Theater or anything like that, but because there is absolutely no reason it should have been such a spectacular fuck up.

Huge budget, actual professionals (many of whom have made good movies before) behind the scenes, good/great actors and you just got this complete goddamn mess that would be impressive if it wasn't so embarrassing.

I don't read comic books, so the only exposure I have to these characters is through cartoons as a kid and these movies as an adult. I didn't watch Suicide Squad and go "wow they ruined these people", because I didn't even know who half of them were. Superhero movies are where you turn your brain off for a couple of hours and just enjoy it, so I just take all of them at face value and enjoy them for what they are.

Given how 99% of comic book fans are miserable little shits, it makes me happy I never bothered reading any of them. I can't imagine hating every movie that comes out of general principle.

You don't have to read comic books, you just have to have a basic understanding of how plot, characterization, or storytelling works.
