TopicIs it racist to not want to adopt kids of certain races or ethnicities?

I wanted only White or Hispanic kids so they look like they are mine or my wife's.

We are foster-adopting three White girls and no one ever questions if they are ours.

So I don't believe it is racist. Though it can be in some cases.

And what happens with the unplanned children?

Babies are easy to rehome. Tons of parents out there who can't have children and looking for one.

The reason our current foster care system sucks is because it is filled with teenagers and no one wants to adopt teenagers.

In theory if you take the unplanned children as babies you get them adopted much easier and you wouldn't have any teenagers in the system.

Regarding the topic, it's not that some people should not be allowed to have kids. Have a training course that you have to complete before you get the parenting license.

Before I could adopt, I had to get a series of background checks, an extensive home study, and a 27 hour childcare course. Why couldn't we do the same with birth parents?

Damm how big of a city roughly are you operating in? @Zanzenburger

I've been faintly looking into a similar idea but I'm not sure if the area is populated enough, definitely no saturation around here though

I live in a town of 25000. It is pretty small.

It will be tough in a smaller town, but you have to find your niche. My niche is private parties. Since we have less traffic, I offer facility rentals where people can shut the place down for a private party for cheap. You can't do that at Laser Quest, for example, because they would lose out on too much walk-in traffic if you shut down for that group. As a result, we get a lot of business from out of town folks booking private rentals. We are pretty well-known now.

Your OP said your wife just called, you need to take her to ER, so your first thought is "I better go inform the random strangers on the internet"?

I wouldn't wish that s*** on anyone, if it is indeed true you have my sincerest sympathies, but damn man, if it's true get off the f***ing internet and go be with your wife

Not that I owe you any explanation, but there is a lot of downtime at a hospital. A lot of waiting and moments in the waiting room where I don't know what is going on. Posting helps pass the time and gives a distraction.
Plus, when she first called, she was an hour away at work. I literally could not do anything until she made it back to town.

She is still sleeping so I am giving her space.

Thanks everyone.

It was an ectopic miscarriage. They used medication to eliminate the pregnancy. We didn't leave the hospital til 5am.

She has been sleeping all day as she is worn out from being up all night and all the blood drawn. I have been taking care of our foster kids while she sleeps and recovers. I am currently at the park with them. They are none the wiser what happened.

I appreciate all your stories. It is encouraging to know normal pregnancies can still happen after a miscarriage.

Won't bore you with the details (they're pretty gross), but my wife believes she's having a miscarriage at work and is under lots of pain. She's leaving work right now (works an hour away) and I'm taking her to the emergency room to find out what's going on. Based on the research she's done, she thinks it may be signs of a miscarriage.

I'm hoping she's just got a case of "WebMD-itus" and it's not as bad as she thinks but I guess we'll see. Kinda scary since we only found out about the pregnancy 5 days ago.

Antifar posted...
You need a basis on which to argue that the two sides are equally correct. Just because it sounds sensible doesn't mean it's true.

I disagree with this. Sometimes, the middle ground may include variables the neither side considered because they don't fall in line with their way of thinking.

For example, in my state, one of the bigger issues is funding for public education vs. privatizing it for charter schools. One group wants more funding for public education while the other wants more funding for charter schools.

Regardless of how "right" people think one side is over the other, there are talks of certain voucher programs that can solve a lot of problems and allow public schools and charter schools to co-exist.

The problem is that one group will never even consider vouchers because of the racial inequality they've resulted in the past. But just because the vouchers were ineffectively applied historically, doesn't mean we can't try using them in different ways that would work better.

Meanwhile, the other side wants vouchers to be used exclusively, but wants the eradication of public schools completely, not understanding that rural communities would be screwed if we switched over to a charter-school only system, vouchers or no vouchers.

But no one is willing to budge from their stance at all, which is why our state is heading deeper into the crapper because no one can compromise so no action is being taken and meanwhile education funding is the worst it has ever been.

Because in our current political climate, with biased news media and viral sharing of false information on social media, people see the other side as "the enemy" and any attempts to collaborate or agree with "the enemy", no matter how little, is treason and shouldn't be considered.

Nevermind the fact that we teach children to compromise, not fight, from an early age. Compromise and teamwork are a foundation of the values of our current society, since no two people think exactly the same. But now that the opposing side is "the enemy", people feel like they are in an ideological war and any move towards the center means the other side wins.

Yes, there are certain topics where you can't just take the middle ground (I saw someone make the extreme example of the Holocaust where you can't really compromise when the options are murder people or not murder people). But people treat every single issue now like a life-or-death situation when it really isn't. There is still lots of room to compromise if people stop vilifying the other side.

I loved how they spun the scenario to compare it to Ward. It was done very well, imo. And Fitz absolutely NAILED it with his delivery. Jemme did an amazing job as well, of course.

I kind want to just post the scene, actually so I'm going to.

Hot damn that was a great scene. And the second and third arcs of season 4 (LMD and the framework) are basically entirely like that. I mean, I loved season 4 the best out of all of them, but if I had to rank the arcs in that season, it would go Framework -> LMD -> Ghost Rider.

People who are upset that shareholders may benefit from increased corporation profits generally are so because they want a better economy and want improved living conditions for lower class people, not just themselves.

Sure, they can become shareholders (if they're not already), but that doesn't solve the problem. It just shields them from the larger consequences (if they actually make money as shareholders, that is).

It's a very selfish way of thinking and not the right way to govern. How can you help the largest group of people with the resources you have, not just a select few.

I thought this was supposed to happen with every appeal at this point? Didn't that change recently? IIRC I read something that any appeals go to mods different from those who made the original moderation.

A second, different mod will look at it. But if that second mod is unsure who to side with (user or first mod), they may talk to a third, or even fourth mod for more feedback.

Muffinz0rz posted...
Why should posting history be brought into question? I disagree with this wholeheartedly. Every moderation should be treated separately. If two people post the exact same thing, there shouldn't be more leniency for one user over the other.

If a user makes a post that is a follow up to a previous post, or has a history of trolling that board, or is posting the same message everywhere to the point of disruption, then checking post histories are appropriate. Sometimes it is just to better understand the context of the post in question.
