Final Fantasy IX is one of the most charming games. You can see it in many aspects of the game: the setting (which is fairytale-like), the characters (Vivi is great), the dialogue (including ATEs), the graphics (which are almost like a painting), the music, etc.

Is it better than VIII? Tried to play that right after VII and could not get into it.

The Superman TAS 3 parter "World's Finest" is a perfect example of how to do a "Supes and Bats meet up for the 1st time" story.
A 20 year old hour long cartoon showed a better understanding of who these characters are and how they interact than a 3 hour long blockbuster trying to be deep with a 12 year old's grasp on the word "deep"

From a phylogenetic stand point, yes we absolutely are. The same applies to the relationship between great apes and Old World monkeys. However, in regards to traditional Linnaean classification, it's debatable as to whether we differ enough in our overall appearance to justify calling ourselves apes. The simple fact is that the Homo genus (and the Austrolopithecus genus) evolved from animals that are objectively apes. For every day practical purposes though, when dealing solely with extant species, it's a bit unwieldy to act as though Homo sapiens are just one of many great apes.

And that's not even to get into the debate of whether you should include the entire Homo genus under the definition of human, or just Homo sapiens.

Super Mario RPG is a predecessor like Wolfenstein 3D
Paper Mario is a solid game like Doom.
TTYD is a rehash that is superior to the original, like Doom II.
Super Paper Mario is inferior to the original two but still a pretty good game in its own right, like Doom 64.
Sticker Star is too damn different and has some piss poor design choices, like Doom 3.

Breaks down after that though, since obviously Doom 4 is far superior to the travesty that is Color Splash. Hell, you could probably say that about Doom 3 and Sticker Star.
