I think that what makes them work so well for me is that while some people hear their separate influences and say Ive heard that sound before, so Ill pass, the magic to me lies in hearing all those different influences TOGETHER in a way Ive never heard. Ghost took like nine of my favorite bands/writers and mashed them into a rock theatric package. Its just 100% right up my alley.

I was never spanked or physically disciplined in ANY regard, but my parents held me very accountable in different ways like groundings and taking away toys/games. They also pretty much never made an idle threat and calling their bluff got my shit taken away every single time. Learned pretty quick to act right.

Instilling discipline is 100% necessary. Some kind of punishment system is necessary. Physical punishment, I dont think is necessary tbh.

I listened to a few songs from a couple different albums. They're a total bore. They bring absolutely nothing to the table that countless other bands haven't done better.

Alrighty, thats one opinion

Thats an interesting perspective, @SpiralDrift. I dont think theyre poseurs at all, but that said, I find myself usually leaning towards forgiving homage and influence when it stops short of blatant plagiarism. Im not sure which one youre referring to offhand, but generally speaking, I find we tend to complain that no one is doing music that sounds influenced by older rock/metal bands, but then bash anything in that vein as derivative.

Id give their latest album a try, I personally like it much more than Opus Eponymous and I pick up on a large range of influences from Rush to Maiden to King Diamond to Judas Priest to Queen and a large range between. Some Blue Oyster Cult and Floyd, too.

As for their mainstream attitude and not buying the Satanic act, it doesnt take too much digging to find they dont buy the Satanic act either. Theyre half tongue in cheek and half an homage to old horror movies. Its just their aesthetic; they admit outright in interviews its just theatre. Granted, whether you enjoy that or not, your mileage may vary, but theyre no more serious about being a Satanic death cult than Bowie was about being an alien, especially once youre past Opus Eponymous.

What makes you say that, out of curiosity?

You're obviously entitled to your opinion, I just feel like "bland" is one word I just can't apply to them. Well, most of their stuff, at least. The first album is a little RAWR SATAN for my tastes at times, even if it is tongue-in-cheek. Not as clever musically or lyrically as their later stuff.

They're fucking awesome IMO but it's admittedly niche as hell given they're "too poppy for metal" and "too scary for mainstream"

But man, I discovered them recently and I'm a huge fan. I love how the more they write, the more they take the Queen/Bowie approach of just writing whatever the fuck they want as opposed to trying to fit a genre.

The problem is everybody has their own idea of what the solution is or is not, but at the end of the day, it's a combination of factors. People then pick and choose which of them they agree with. It amounts to saying 1+1=2 but 2+24... Aspects of both arguments are right, to some extent, but both sides are also ignoring the aspects that work against their overall narratives.

that's cool but zero aspects of Trump taking this opportunity to take a potshot at the FBI make me feel like conservatives have any ground to stand on when talking about politicizing tragedies, which is all I'm saying ITT

Isildur caved to the ring in about five seconds. He wasnt strong willed whatsoever maybe someone with an incredible amount of discipline couldve used it to control and dominate if they chose.

Aragorn MIGHT have been one such candidate, given he resisted it a lot better than Isildur or Boromir. Gandalf could have, theoretically, not joined Sauron but overthrown him and been just as bad or worse.

$250+ for the system, $40-60 per game... I'm dropping like 400 bucks to play Zelda (50 hours), Mario (15 hours) and Skyrim for the bazillionth time? Nah, I'll wait another year

Also everyone puts Xenoblade on their list yet the reviews are a resounding "they could have done better - very generic JRPG". Yeah that really sells it for me...

FYI if youre a completionist or even slightly interested in doing optional content, you will get more hours out of Zelda and Mario than that.

Your point overall stands, just saying

Honestly I value the Switchs portability more than I ever thought I would. I figured itd be a nice feature but not one Id use that often, but I sometimes find I use it even when a TV is an option because I wanna lay in bed. Not to mention when the wife is using the TV or sleeping and I dont want to wake her, or I have a break at work, etc.

I was skeptical Id wanna play certain games in handheld mode, but Id never played Doom and had a gift card so I took a flyer on it. Had a complete blast, ran like a charm and played probably 75% of it portably.

All told, the portability is a really underrated factor. Running something as impressive as Doom on a handheld is still a little marvel to me; sure, it would look better on my gaming PC, but it still looked really nice and the ability to just swap back and forth was insanely handy when I was addicted and couldnt put it down.

But more than anything, thats just the Ring feeding you some bullshit. Obviously youd never actually get anywhere by using it aside from being dead or Saurons slave. The we can use it as a weapon!!! idea is just a rationalization part of the seduction.

Lets see if I could give a realistic answer here, and this is barring half the military forces turning on the government due to their beliefs:

Civilian forces wouldnt, and couldnt, take on the military in a head-on confrontation. This would mean that rebels would use guerrilla hit-and-run tactics to minimize the militarys obvious technological advances in weaponry. The government wouldnt resort to carpet bombing the rebels because of collateral risk. You dont want to destroy half the landscape just to spend millions rebuilding it. Not to mention the loss of public support...I mean we have people who get angry that we bomb terrorists forces overseas. Espionage would also play a big factor in this civil war. So yes, civilians with firearms could absolutely cause all sorts of problems and cripple the government if it ever came down to it.

This is a pretty fair answer.

I do, however, still have a hard time believing that the number of gunowners in America could effectively militarize and form a meaningful resistance. The hypotheticals you typed out read like The Hunger Games. I just don't see it.
