Does Capcom have enough popular characters to make a fast-paced, 3v3 tag fighter without using any outside IP?
I always did thought either breath of fire 3 or breath of fire 4 ryu would make for a interesting character. Whichever they use, they can have him doing attacks with his different dragon genes, like 2 or 3 of the master skills you learn like combo could be one of his regular attacks, and the golden-haired dragon hybrid form could be his super state.

Now is breath of fire ryu popular?...eh, not really, but capcom is known to use a few lesser known characters alongside their big names if they get full control of the roster.

Uhhh.....What......the....fuck.....We give addictive pain meds to children now?
With the kind of sickle cell pain crises episodes I had as a kid, I would be way the hell worst off or possibly dead had I not got "addictive pain meds" alongside everything else that helps with either help preventing the pain crises from starting and controlling the pain when it inevitably happens. Usually the stronger stuff is reserved for when you actually go to the hospital compared to the at-home pain medicine. For me personally something like oxycodone and morphine sulfate is only taken when needed, but if I ever get into a pain crisis that my home medicines just isn't cutting it (normally happens when the weather gets cold as balls) then a trip to the ER and a IV set-up with something like dilaudid is normal for sickle-stuff. (Yeah, I was used to this kind of thing w/ a pain pump as a kid).

For some of us chronic pain patients, yeah, stronger meds really is a life-long thing. It doesn't necessarily mean you become addicted to them though (although it actually can happen, but majority of us life-long chronic pain peeps are responsible with this kind of thing).

I don't believe the lion king bundle we had in north america came with a box period, lmao. I know the game on it's own had a cardboard box, but the pack-in one didn't come with one I believe. It did come with the manual though....which is something.
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/a/afdabca6.jpg

I am thinking sega started saving money wherever possible for north america because over here nintendo was starting to stomp them something serious ever since donkey kong country 1 and the SNES bundle for that became a thing. If I remember my vidya game history right, nintendo wasn't as big a force in regions like south america and europe w/ sega doing well in these regions in comparison with the master system and mega drive. Sega probably decided to only keep the premium clamshells for the regions that treated them well the most, lol.

Fascinating. I don't think they did this in PAL territories. We just got stuck with shitty 50hz versions instead!

Only Nintendo ever used cardboard boxes here from memory.
Yep. Unfortunately the sonic and knuckles we got in north america was cardboard, lol. I probably still have my box and manual in a old footlocker that I got, but it's condition is definitely flattened and barely holding on in comparison to the clamshell genesis boxes I still got.

Our SNES boxes took a absolute beating so sometime in either the late 90s/early 2000s my mom was doing some spring cleaning, went through me and my bro's old room and just tossed anything that looked like junk to her. Old SNES console box, all the game boxes like chrono trigger and so on etc., none of that stuff lasted. I do still have the two posters and the manual chrono trigger came with somewhere, but all the NES, old gameboy and SNES boxes is long gone lol.

TopicWas the PSWii60 era of gaming the worst gen in modern VG history
Mad-Dogg
11/14/23 2:10:23 PM

Ehhhh, kinda? To be honest there was still a lot of really good games especially if you started with the xbox 360 first, and online gaming on the 360 was pretty fun for a good bit of the games (saints row 1's online was mad fun and one of those "had to be there" games. Protect da' pimp was wild, lol. Gears of war 1 and 3 being great (2 is eh to me). Left 4 dead 1 and 2 was also great).

I think a lot of younger gamers today just do not know and the older gamers forgot just how good xbox live arcade was when it really started blowing up. It helped a lot of indie devs get their foot in the door when it comes to their games being released on consoles and a lot of this stuff was better than the bigger budget games at the time period (stuff like the dishwasher, shank, dust an elysian tale, shadow complex, alien hominid HD, and xbla being a good place to get older releases as downloads like street fighter 2 turbo and castlevania symphony of the night, etc.). The PS3 was a bit slower to catch on but once the good games started coming out they were cool. Nintendo was doing them with the Wii.....now me personally I admit I wasn't too fond of the mandatory waggle controls in a lot of their games during this time. Nintendo had some of those nice 2D or 2.5D games like wario land shake it and donkey kong country returns but then they got to have the mandatory shake controls and its like fuck man. Portable gaming was pretty great with the DS and psp.

For me personally the crappiest thing was just how badly a lot of japanese devs (the ones that specialized in creating those good but humble budget AA games from the previous generation. Even the bigger ones like capcom was getting tripped up in the HD 360 and PS3 era a little though thanks to dudes like keji inafune damn near giving up when western developers started popping off when it comes to console gaming) was stumbling for awhile. Some of these japanese companies never actually recovered and shutdown. A lot of western devs thrived. Another thing I wasn't too crazy about was the love for the gritty color pallets then....we had so many brown and gray unreal engine games, lol.

The online pass thing sucked ass. Its also true we had way too many similar looking mctough dudes as a MC for the western dev 360 and PS3 games being made then.
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/2/22ace319.jpg
*Also insert the goober from resident evil 6 jake muller...a guy designed to appeal to the trends at the time. We will most likely never see him in a RE game again. Well he was in this japanese biohazard card battle mobile game....or maybe its chinese mobile game. Something like that*

You also had a dude like cliffy B. who tried to throw PC gamers under the bus, so that was a whole thing that happened.

One thing I did like about the next PS4, xbox one, and......wii u console generation is that indie gaming is really starting to kick off and start bringing some of that game variety back that was missing a little from the previous one. Color is starting to return to the world a bit.

Only on certain tracks. It actually got to the point where I avoided cheese land as much as possible since more than half of the room will be attempting to bag in high VR average worldwide (a.k.a. full of japanese players that are serious business) rooms. SNES mario circuit 3 was also the same.

*There is this one old "average cheese land" race video that I am struggling to find right now where every single waluigi in the room was trying to bag to the point that no one was barely pushing ahead to be the first place guy. The race took way longer than average to finish just because of how much everyone in the room was stopping at the item boxes and barely being the first place racer to help stronger items actually appear with the distance.*

Methinks you overestimate the technical ability of most modern gamers.
Then again, most people who have had a PS4 (or had the PS5 for awhile now) for years never knew how to actually use the share button to save video clips or how the share play function (the best still practically unknown among the vast majority of playstation owners feature of the PS4 and 5 imo. So damn useful when it comes to trying out those games you aren't sure about but a friend doesn't mind setting up a session for you, or to easily set up multiplayer for games that doesn't have a in-game online play feature like zombies ate my neighbors collection) in general is a thing that exists (a friend has a game, big budget or indie and you want to try it out? Set up that share play session. Its pretty awesome).

You are probably right, =/

Seriously though transferring screenshots and video clips is damn easy. Just straight up copy and paste from the media gallery lol.

I am constantly using the share button on the PS5 (and PS4 when I played on one) and this doesn't effect me either, lol. You can easily go to the media gallery and just copy and paste screenshots or videos to a usb drive to then move to your PC or whatever else you want to do with'em, and for videos they can be uploaded straight to youtube. Streams also go straight to either youtube or twitch. I am actually surprised if anyone actually bothered with the twitter option.

Even on the switch I never used the twitter option since you can have screenshots and clips go to your phone. (Although I do wish the switch had a direct to youtube option too).

Who *didn't* use HP and MP Up Materia in Normal mode?
Not me, because to me it wasn't actually needed in normal (maybe if the player tries to fight the leviathan summon the exact moment it pops up compared to waiting until like chapter 14 instead). Just going through the motions was good enough in normal mode. I didn't even really use prayer or chakra in normal like that. I didn't start until first finding out hard mode restricts MP restoration. I didn't read any guides or watch youtube videos of anyone else playing the game so even finding out hard mode was a thing that existed was new to me, so I am not going to bother pretending delving into some of the purple materia like HP and MP up was some super duper obvious thing one should be doing right from the get-go.
Xenogears15 posted...
No, Hard mode made collecting items worthless, which made most of the exploring and quest rewards useless as well. I know that Hardcore Gamers (tm) may have been given the hard on of their lifetime with Hard mode, but for me it was nothing but unrewarding and tedious.
Lets not beat around the bush here, carrying around a huge item inventory in most jrpg franchises is useless/jrpgs that actually places a huge importance on your items like shin megami tensei games isn't the norm, but in the original final fantasy 7 its especially useless because it was a jrpg on the easier side of the spectrum....no enemies is ever going to actually challenge you enough that you will ever bother using any of your 99 stacks. A lot of final fantasy games is easy like that with the main go-to strategy being hit harder as fast as possible. The only items of actual note in final fantasy 7 remake is stuff to restore HP and MP, so losing access to that is no loss whatsoever in hard mode. Hard mode just swapped out getting manuscripts so you can finish up learning all the skills from everyone's weapons compared to items.......that was what made doing quests on hard worth it.

Hard mode was fun because it actually makes using materia combinations no one ever bothered with in the OG game and picking a different weapon (all of which is actually useful instead of being mere stat-sticks. Well, the critical focus weapons like the nail bat was more situational, lol) useful. Be honest..........who ever bothered setting up status effect immunity to avoid the toad status? (the sahagin enemies in chapter 10 and 14. These guys are just some random enemy encounter with nothing to note whatsoever from the original game. Hard mode remake turns these guys into death toad'n machines that can and will fuck you up if you are caught slipping for a moment and come in unprepared. For a RPG fan like me I love unexpected stuff like that, lol). Setting up that elemental materia and leveling it up to absorb a certain element depending on the area you are in? Same goes for being silenced...getting through the mode and actually learning the battle system is the reward so if it was tedious for you then you weren't getting the most out of cloud/barret/aerith/tifa's move list. The ones who complain about the game being a drag for battles like fighting hell house on hard or the arsenal on hard the most is almost always completely neglecting the full move list a character like aerith has. (Not saying it was you personally (although with the "TM" comment it really does feel like that one was coming from a place of......envy that others enjoyed it? I don't know, it really ain't that serious lol), I just mean in general. It is the first thing I think of when someone calls the game tedious though, because it really isn't imo).

I'm not claiming FF7 remake hard mode is anywhere near the hardest rpg in the world, but compared to the final fantasy series norm of the only challenge coming from post-game content, making a extra boss extra RNG wacky like FF9's ozma and with the older games with a world map stepping into a area w/ a level range you ain't meant to be in yet (or in final fantasy tactic's case, being a teenager that still did not quite grasp just how broken you can be in the game, and then saving the game at those moments where you can't backtrap and thus getting yourself stuck if you are too under leveled. *nervously looks around*), FF7 remake's hard mode is a breath of fresh air for the series.

Yeah, it is. Yuffie has a built-in perfect guard mechanic where if you time the block just right you can iframe through an attack. You have to get that down if you want to make it through a lot of the hard mode fights fine (this is easy to miss since they don't explain it to you during actual gameplay. Its in the help section in the menu or something like that). Because of that and her air combos yuffie is very fun to play as. (Going to need that perfect guard timing for fighting hard mode ramuh).

Using wacky setups like the enemy skill materia w/ spirit syphon with a MP absord attached. Actually using MP up and especially HP up is one of the most viable strategies.

Zaraki kenpachi. In a series where soul reapers (or the weeb term shinigami) learn to communicate with their swords for more power, some of which also has basic weapons where you swing harder but most gain some kind of super power, this mofo over here used to walk around with bells in his hair so his enemies here him coming and his soul slayer/zanpakutootoo is a chipped up beat-up looking katana because he don't communicate too good with it...

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/e/e3d773c7.jpg

No powers. (That anyone or himself knew of at the time anyway. I think later on they discovered that what it did was either make him ever so slightly barely stronger than his opponent or vice versa. Something or another. This could be a light-novel only thing I don't remember). Still manages to kill the previous guy and become captain, a rank where one of the requirements is knowing how to use their sword's final form. Just by swinging harder than the other guy and taking hits better than everyone else. One of his special techniques his swinging his sword down while gripping with both hands.........it is a dangerous technique.

He learns to talk to his sword like way, way later.....which still basically amounts to him getting a power where he has to swing harder than the other guy, lol.

Didnt he do that at a live tournament?
It was a mod on whoever was responsible for setting up the PC for tournament play.

I figured capcom could just mandate everyone use a console like the PS5 or xbox series X instead for tournament play to avoid any other potential future mod craziness that gets caught on livestream. That would make it a hassle to use various input devices though.

Mega man series water levels are tend to be fun........most of the time anyway. (Fuck off duff mcwhalen's stage). With that said bubble man's stage is the shit since mega man is a series where you jump n' shoot, and all water does is make you jump higher n' shoot.

When it comes to a area based around a lot of water then castlevania symphony of the night's underground caverns is awsome. It has the best music fit for a trip through some caves and water.

I want hard corps uprising to get a modern port to anything so damn bad. (Contra).

Its currently stuck on the 360 and PS3. At least the 360 version was made BC, but I still would rather be playing this game on either the PS5 or steam deck.

I like both run n' guns and shooter ups. Sunset riders got ported to PSN and the eshop not too long ago but this one kind of went over the heads of mad people lol.

That is the original model of the switch. That is why this one is cheaper. (I can tell by the smaller screen size and the kinda' shitty original model switch stand in the back on the bottom left picture there).

That, and under the details:

Bloodstained ritual of the night 2 (so far I have enjoyed every single bloodstained related thing that released, so I don't doubt IGA putting out another awesome game), this game on steam called frontier hunter: erza's wheel of fortune getting out of early access, and another game releasing on steam first called gestalt steam & cinder.

would've loved to back penny blood/armed fantasia/hymn to the earless god/eiyuuden chronicle because they're all things i'm interested but i just can't get over the "pay for it now to hopefully get it later" hump

like i'll get all of these when they come out and it's feasible but yeah
Yeah that is understandable.

In my case I don't look at these kind of things as a video game pre-order so much as I am trying to help for these games to get made in general. (I know with crowdfunding its more-so whoever is running the project can guage fan reaction so another company can come along and help publish+market the game and so on. I learned mad quick that crowdfunding can nowhere near fund a video game on it's own, so if someone is trying to make it out like this crowd-funding money is all they need to make XXX then its more than likely a scam).

I just happened to have a spare bit of money at the time, but it really was a bit of change to go in for a physical copy for penny blood+armed fantasia at the same time, lol.

How does the battery life compare to the regular Switch?
I feel like I can get around 4 hours more on average compared to when I was playing on my original switch. I had a 1 hour and 16ish minutes trip (so about 2 hours 32 minutes round trip) to the doctor's office (and I wasn't driving for once. Whooo) 2 days ago. I always set my brightness to slightly over 80 percent.....anywho going off a 100 percent charge and playing mario wonder while connected to my phone as a hot spot for online play, the switch was at 83 percent by the time I got back to the house. If this was my original model, It'd probably be looking at a 30 something percent charge.

Nah, you just got to back something by someone with a proven record.

I feel bad for the people who backed something like mighty no.9 or to a lesser extent shenmue 3, but both keji inafune and yu suzuki already shown beforehand they were slippin' over the years.

Me? IGA for life. Put 150 dollars down with no hesitation towards bloodstained and absolutely loved what I got, and I'd do it again easy. I also backed eiyuden chronicles and that game is shaping up to actually be good. Mina the follower is by yacht club/shovel knight guys so I already got faith in that one too.

I wouldn't put that much money into some rando or some rando project, lol.

*I also backed penny blood and armed fantasia, but those are also from dudes who been in the industry for awhile and don't have a spotty record like keji inafune and yu suzuki.*

Same. Mine is mainly used to play those steam indies that did not release on consoles (stuff like spark the electric jester, them and us, and river city ransom underground) and older releases that run great on it like dragon's dogma.

When it comes to portable gaming I am usually on the switch just because there is a good deal more nintendo games I did not get through yet.

Yeah that is pretty dumb. I think weeb originally started as a term to insult white dudes obsessed with japan. It doesn't matter, I call myself a weeby deeby a lot since I look at my music playlists and the games I own to see that the majority is for sure japanese-related, with a bit of korean and chinese games here and there lol. I guess its one of those things where once you get older you slowly just stop giving a shit about what others think and peer pressure is no longer a factor.

I swapped off my original switch for a OLED model starting a month ago and imo this is the one to go for.

The switch stand at the back actually functions extremely well, battery life is definitely improved, games look really good on the small OLED screen to the point where if the performance is fine I would opt to get a game on the switch compared to the steam deck, and one thing I like about the pokemon OLED switch (I'm not sure if this is on the normal OLED model since I only ever used this pokemon scarlet and violet one) is that the joycons+switch itself is made out of a matte-like material.....it feels a good bit better to the touch compared to the original switch's more glossy-like material.

If you are going for a switch now I'd go for a OLED model for sure.

*The OLED dock also has a built-in ethernet port. Useful in case you ever want to play smash ultimate or mario maker 2 online and don't want to lag up the joint. In case you did not already have your own usb ethernet adapter to use on nintendo stuff anyway*.

Weeb is a pretty fun word to use not going to lie, lol, but imo its never serious business enough to get upset about it. Sometimes you just have to embrace what you are......like I was playing the second baki hanma opening (from the father vs son fight) in my car one day and dudes next to me at the stop sign kind of looked at me funny, but it is ok....there is a little bit of weeb in us all.

There is one type of person that goes beyond the regular weeb, and that is the kind that asks for japanese voices in like a harry potter, last of us, or something like gears of war game. That is just disgusting and if you ever fall so far into depravity that you are asking to watch star wars in japanese then you are a goddamn degenerate.

Wtf, star ocean as a series is anime as hell lol. (Which isn't even a bad thing/a strike against it/a supposed "negative", etc. etc.). Literal space cat girls, and the plots for every game is standard shonen-like fare. It's appeal is basically being anime star trek.

Lol @ people in general who are trying to act like they are too cool for school to play a weeby deeby rpg game. Its like 11:18 pm eastern time during a saturday night on a niche board like this and we hangin' around talking about the space star trek rpg or the cutesy mario rpg game we played as kids...we all some goddamn nerdlings up in this mofo so when it is all said and done embrace both games in all of their nerdy glory with open arms, lmao.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

It was originally created for the WB, where it only aired 5 episodes before it got canned for poor ratings. When it eventually found it's way to adult swim so they can burn off the un-aired episodes, it became a cult-classic. I forgot the reason why it was never brought back for a new season.

There was supposed to be a spin-off with gus and wally as the main characters but those plans also fell through.

You know another adult cartoon that got screwed? The regular show dude's new show close enough. This one was damn good (I swear its like the most positive young family that lives with roommates dynamic ever) but unfortunately just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. (Caught right in the middle of the discovery merger and they were cutting a ton of shows to save money....especially animation. Harley quinn barely made it).

EDIT: Damn I just realized I missed a good muscle man "my mom!" insert in my post.
